PS4 God Of War 3; Kratos Is 'Only' 20% Larger Compared to Kratos On PS3

With the PS3 version of God of War 3 eating up 35GB, one would expect an insane file size on Sony's PS4 for the HD remaster. According to Sony's EU and UK stores the game will only be around 20% larger.

even 42 GB is huge. But, indeed, comparing to 35GB PS3 file size we were waiting a larger file with 1080p/60FPS.

VER1ON1100d ago

Exactly I was expecting at least 50GB. Sizes may change though and this is a download size it seems.

Eonjay1100d ago

A lot of the space on the PS3 version may have been redundant to lower loading times. With the PS4 hard drive install, it doesn't have to be as bloated.

DoomeDx1100d ago

Framerate doesnt increase the file size

brish1100d ago

Some of the content in GOW III is pre-rendered videos that are shown while data is loaded for 3d models and textures. If you look closely on the ps3 version you can see compression artifacts in some of the cut scenes.

Framerate does affect the size of video.

hesido1099d ago

It could affect if the pre-rendered videos were 60fps in the remaster based on whatever bitrate they choose, but they are 30fps, at least from what I can see in the Hades demonstration.

brish1099d ago

hesido, are they 1080p? ps3 videos were 720p.

hesido1099d ago

Good question, I can't really check. Maybe they had the original in-engine rendered videos at 1080p30 , but didn't care to re-render them at 60fps like the good guys at ND, but just re-encoded them at 1080p instead of 720p. That could also explain the slight difference in size.

im pretty sure ps3 was uncompressed due to the slowness of bluray.
yet on ps4 its compressed as drive is faster.
so its a bigger difference that just the disc image size.

hesido1099d ago

That doesn't makes sense. If you have a slow drive, you'd want to compress as much as possible on the source.

Thatguy-3101100d ago

The game looked amazing on the ps3 don't see how better it can look on the ps4. I honestly don't see the point of this remastered.

Geobros1100d ago

Personally I dont see the point the point of remastered games which releases few years ago. But it looks like its in fashion....

mikeslemonade1100d ago

The game was overrated on graphics to begin with. Hades boss battle was impressive but that's it. But I still don't like remastering games that are pretty recent in time and then charging $40+ for it.

thekhurg1100d ago

I think a lot of Sony's remasters are for all of the ship jumpers from the xbox 360. Their perception is that there is probably a lot of PS4 owners that didn't have a PS3.

Khajiit861100d ago

you need to stop drinking that lemonade.

UKmilitia1099d ago

think of the millions of people new to PS this gen.
thats why were seeing them.
i just uncharted gets one because even though i played them i want to play again.
I do wish there was a God of War collection though and not just 3

PS4 is much more powerful than the PS3, of course it can look better. Do we need it? I've only played the demo(have collection on backlog) of the PS3 version, but even now after playing it again, I don't think it needs a remaster, not for $40 at least..

VER1ON1100d ago

Remasters are fasion nowadays. The game was a blast on the PS3 and of coure im getting it on the PS4. Whether I enjoy it as much on the PS4 as I did on the PS3 remains the questions - probably not as it's not entirely new but still

Skate-AK1100d ago

The demo is nothing compared to the final release. The graphics are better, framerate was a lot better and they changed a ton of stuff that happenes at the beginning.

mezati991100d ago

id don't get does this hurt ANYONE? i swear i am getting really tired for this bitching everyday

Eidolon1100d ago (Edited 1100d ago )

Well, I guess some of us assume it takes time/manpower and resources away from development of new IP's and continued franchises. Some games do deserve remasters, and I think there is quite a profit/reason for some, but GOWIII really isn't one, in my eyes.

comebackkid98911100d ago

or even just remastering a more obscure game.

PhucSeeker1100d ago (Edited 1100d ago )

The remaster technically won't matter much. But if it's blooming in sale, you know people's gonna do more of these remasters and putting on the ridiculous price tags like this one.

I don't know about you but if this actually happens then i'll be hurt a lot as i imagine all those effort that can be put into new games.

Conzul1099d ago

hey man they would have bitched about a pricier PS4 if it had Backwards Compatibility. But without B/C, now they get to bitch about the inevitable rise of remasters.

OB1Biker1099d ago (Edited 1099d ago )

It's the Internet. People can't stand others have different approach like for example wanting to play on their favourite console the games they want and they got to convince them
There's also the hypocrisy from gaming sites. The same sites that were listing GOW 3 in 'games that should be remastered' got to bitch about it when it happens

r2oB1099d ago

I got 99 problems and remasters are all of them. Actually, I don't mind remastered games. I can resist the urge to buy them if need be.

Sincerly, i prefered an Uncharted Trilogy Remastered insteed of this, Uncharted 4 is on the way, an Uncharted Trilogy would be awesome !!! Imagine Uncharted 2 in 1080p 60fps and great textures !!! how great can be if they made a remastered version for al three games ...

SniperControl1100d ago

Ahh man, i would love to play the Uncharted remastered quadrilogy, swiftly followed by Uncharted 4.

Sevir1100d ago

I would Pay top dollar for Uncharted Golden Abyss, Drake's Fortune, Among Thieves and Drake's Deception all remastered in 1080p and 60fps.. They should simply call it, "Uncharted: Drake's Collection" with the same love and care they gave The Last of Us:Remastered and i'd buy it in a heartbeat

Sy_Wolf1100d ago

The jump to 1080p is MASSIVE and the solid frame rate will also help things look better and more importantly run more smoothly.

_-EDMIX-_1099d ago

"don't see the point of this remastered"

....did you think gamers are made for lolz? $$$$ is very correct. That is the only reason.

miyamoto1099d ago

the point is its remastered for those who jumped ship from other platforms to PS4.
its Sony's way of saying sorry for the screw ups they did for PS3

KryptoniteTail1100d ago

I never finished it nor MGS4. May as well do it on PS4.

Eidolon1100d ago (Edited 1100d ago )

Same, haven't beither all the GOW's/MGS's yet, but still would not pay $40 for a remaster when I could get the PS3 versions for $3. The improved graphics would be entertaining for only a while, unless the originals were riddled with bugs/lag/graphical issues, if so then maybe it'd be worth a rent :p..

azmza1100d ago

We are dealing with Teras storage now, so no problem.

PhoenixUp1100d ago

The title made it sound like they actually rendered Kratos's character model to be 20% larger in the remaster

TRS_Gear1100d ago

That is exactly how I interpreted it as well.
Why even bring Kratos' name into the title of the article?
