Are You Ready For New Music Games?

Richard Drummond of Gaming Tech United writes:

"We all know about the music game craze that hit when Guitar Hero and Rock Band swept the world. It seemed like every console had those two titles spinning inside of them at all times and there were even parties that were held exclusively to play them with friends. Too much of a good thing is always bad and the same happened here. Oversaturation killed the industry and only recently has new signs of life started to show. The question is, are you ready to play them?"

I actually agree with you. I'm not too excited for these new games. I'm a bit burned out on them from last time around still. Major franchise fatigue.

I haven't played one since the beginning of last generation. They had their run for a while but I have no interest. I have more interest of picking rock Smith and learning the guitar for real this time

* I'd play a South Park Music game, but it would have to be a music game + RPG.

* You could build your own band via south park characters that would all have their own playing style and favorite genres.

Include Piano roll and simple sequencer + South Park noises, & sound fx and I think it would actually be a good idea.

* So it wouldn't play like Guitar Hero or anything, it would play like an rpg adventure game but you would also try and make music as part of it.

I'm ready for a new South Park game though.

Haha I hear you on that one!

Have they done anything fresh with the genre? like perhaps a rock based RPG with character development and boss fights that integrate interesting gameplay mechanics. If its just the same thing all over again then I might have to pass.

If you play Rocksmith, its the evolution of Guitar Hero. You play a real guitar and learn, then you will never go back to Guitar Hero or Rock Band.

Though I don't play as much as I used to, I still play Rock Band pretty regularly and will be getting RB4 day one. I think the time between games will have given Harmonix enough of a chance to evaluate what works and what needs improving such that the new game should be the best in the series. The genre is never going to get to the popularity it had, but I'm definitely excited for it.
