I don't know that I trust VGChartz statistical representation, but if it can be trusted, the data is very interesting.

For starters, the seventh generation is remarkably evenly distributed. That just about never happens. The DS and 3DS also have some massive numbers, but it doesn't look like 3DS will hold a candle to its predecessor in terms of sales.

Sales are obviously tapering off for the seventh generation consoles. I'd say that the eighth generation came at a good time. Surprising to see the sales remain so strong for so many years. PS3 still has some long legs, it seems.

Other than that, Sony is dangerously close to 50% market share alone. By now, I imagine it's got it locked. They had 62% at one point and lost it. Very interesting to see these wild fluctuations, but there looks to be a ballpark market share for each console that doesn't look to be changing anytime soon.

Its ridiculous how in 9 weeks PS3 software sales will surpass Wii software sales

Wow PS4s market share keeps on increasing. I'm expecting it to increase even more during the holidays.

Good to see all 3 up YoY. This holiday season will be when we see Sony and Microsoft push there consoles upfront and over the last gen ones in terms of trying to get big numbers. Its ashame the WiiU cant get as high numbers as the other two but if Nintendo is still making money then I'm happy we will see them again next gen and for me ive had a blast with my WiiU so far and we still have more bit IPs to come to it.
