Good to see they are listening. I would've imported a lot of wii u games by now were it not for the region lock.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory3267d ago

like wut? Dragon Quest X

Only thing noteworthy.

Fatal Frame V and Xenoblade Chronicles X coming. If 3DS I can understand that. Wii U in Japan is ignored :( by third parties.

stragomccloud3267d ago

Oh man. I really hope it will be region free!

MasterCornholio3267d ago (Edited 3267d ago )

Region locking is one of my main reasons why I didnt buy a Wii U yet. I dont import games from other regions but I might move to another region soon. I did buy a 2DS but I got it dirt cheap and I'll be buying another one once I'm in the states.

I really hope their next platform is region free.

MegaRay3267d ago

Me too. I wont get a Wii u unless Nintendo make it region free or somebody crack the code.

KryptoniteTail3267d ago

What steps? Nintendo, I swear...

OrangePowerz3267d ago

Step 1.

Don't region lock it.

freshslicepizza3267d ago

from the article,
"Removing region-locking from current game machines presents various issues, so we don’t consider that to be very realistic."

why isn't it very realistic and what issues?

we live in a world no longer bounded by regions because we have access now to information worldwide with the web. more importantly it is very easy to ship content around the world now very easily and cheap in many cases.

nintendo is so afraid of change it seems and are old school.

bass4g3267d ago

I think it might be (and I think this was the implication) that the wii u's region locking is hardware based. Which would make sense as as far as I know the region locking hasn't been cracked yet. Also the "steps they have to take" to make the nx region free would assumedly be internal infrastructure ones, not to do with any actual difficulties.

deathtok3267d ago

Price. That's the primary concern with region locking.

freshslicepizza3267d ago

isn't the ps4 region free? if so then how is sony able to do this? also could you not upgrade the hardware via firmware update to make it region free?

paul-p19883266d ago (Edited 3266d ago )

@MoldyBread All of Sony's consoles and portables since the PS3 have been region free, in fact I think the PSP may have been region free too but I can't remember at the moment. I've imported at least 1 game for each of my Playstations due to this (that, and for aiding my Japanese studies) :)

Looking Ahead: The Lingering Questions About the Next Mario Kart

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "10 years. It’s been almost 10 years since the last mainline release in the Mario Kart series. Mario Kart 8 came out for the Wii U in 2014 and became the best-selling game for the system by a sizeable margin, and later pulled the same magic trick on the Nintendo Switch under the stage name Deluxe. All in all, it's sold nearly 70 million copies over the last decade and is still selling like hot cakes to this day, so it’s no wonder Nintendo has been in no rush to replace it. However, with rumors of a new system being just around the corner, and reports a few years back that a new Mario Kart is indeed under way, it seems the era of 8 might very well be drawing to a close. It’s an exciting prospect to be sure, but after two Nintendo systems with Mario Kart 8 at their heart, a lot of questions remain about how Nintendo will choose to follow it up."

I hope they just keep building on Mario Kart 8; Add a track-creation tool, and probably open it up to more Nintendo IPs with new tracks and characters, so Metroid, Punch Out, Starfox, Animal Crossing, etc etc.

gold_drake7d ago

there wont be a new one until the switch 2 comes out.

nintendo needs their bangers early on
