Final Fantasy X had great opening - beginning, FF VIII too.

Think the prologue chapter of TLOU was the most memorable, but FFVIII probably still remains my favorite. It's hard to not be impressed with it even today. When I saw the title it's the first thing I thought of.

Other good ones off the top of my head include Xenosaga II, Ys:VI The dawn of Ys on the PC-Engine, a couple of the .Hack games, Mass Effect 2 and 3, and Wild Arms.

Final Fantasy VIII for me. I remember being a little kid in the 90s and seeing the intro to FFVIII being played on a TV in EB Games. I was blown away. I'd never seen anything like it. I begged and begged my parents to buy the game after that.

For me it's the beginning of Lost Odyssey. It starts with a war and then a bad ass named Kaim jumps in and beats the hell out of everyone :P Straight after he is done kicking ass, you take control of the game. It's an awesome start to the game.

That and the start to Shenmue 2. You get off a boat, and straight away i spend all of my money on the capsule toy machine before i end up getting robbed soon after :P
