Sales continue to grow in Canadian video game industry; 'Mario Kart' No. 1

The video game industry continues to flourish in Canada with revenue growing 56 per cent in the first six months of the year.

Sales of hardware, software and accessories totalled $783 million during that period, according to the NPD Group which tracks the industry.

Games for Nintendo dominated June software sales, accounting for six of the top 10 titles. "Mario Kart" was No. 1, followed by "Fit," both for the Wii.

"Metal Gear Solid 4: Gun of the Patriots," for the PlayStation 3, debuted at third, followed by "Guitar Hero: On Tour" for the DS, and "Play" for the Wii.

yet sony won't push the playstation video store in Canada, they decided to leave us out in the cold. all i can say is wow.


I do not own a PS3 yet. Should own one by the end of Oct.

But I can completely relate, I remember on X360 they had the movie downloads for U.S. and not in Canada for over a year maybe more. At least we got it eventually I guess. LOL.

Hopefully they add it to Canada soon.

Damn CRTC laws.

We would have the same content as the US if it wasn't for them. It's a B but I can wait.

Now that I think of it, I do preferr to have my service providers required to host Canadian content. If it wasn't like that we'd be flooded with America's BS news stations like FOX. *shudder*
