400 billion reasons why Elite: Dangerous is secretly Xbox One's most exciting game

GR:
"The ship groans like a whale having a heart attack. Somewhere, deep underneath the pilot’s well-rounded buttocks, bulkheads are giving way and tensile cables are fraying apart. I glance down at my in-ship hands, sitting calm, steady and pressure-suited on the controls. Soon, there’s a cork-popping noise, followed by a building rattling and cracking. "

This is one of the games I would consider buying an XB1 for but I wish they would just bring it to the PS4.

darthv72985d ago

PS4 has no Man's Sky. Isn't that similar to this? I don't follow either game so I'm just making that basic connection.

amnalehu985d ago

I Think NMS will be a timed exclusive. ED is one of the games that pioneered the open world game genre. I've been a fan for a while. Looks like a winner!

joab777984d ago

Its amazing that No Man's Sky got so much attention for creating a game that procedurally generated planets etc. And this game does it using real science found in our universe.

I honestly didn't know half of what I just read. It sound unbelievable.

Also, eve online is one of the best mmo'smmo's ever made b/cc the entire world is made up by the community (aall interaction etc). I wonder if Elite is similar, in which if 25 friends got together, they could create a power group to go raid others, growing bigger and bigger until they owned particular sections of space.

I live Sci fi. But my favorite is imagining it set in OUR universe using real science. It's why I wish they'd make a new Star trek with all the latest scientific theories.

Mr Pumblechook984d ago

Phil Spencer was very canny in getting it as a timed console exclusive for XBO so owners won't feel left out when they see the No Man's Sky excitement on PS4. However Microsoft should not try to promote it as an alternative to NMS as they actually both have very different play styles. Elite: Dangerous is a great game but is far more sim-like than No Man's Sky.

Septic984d ago

Okay now I'm seriously intrigued after reading that!

LordMaim984d ago (Edited 984d ago )

Elite Dangerous *is* coming to the PS4. It is just a timed exclusive for the Xbox One.

@ amnalehu

Elite: Dangerous has been confirmed to be coming to PS4: http://www.gamespot.com/art...

Select people have convinced themselves No Man's Sky is coming to XB1, but it's only been said to be coming to PC, an undisclosed amount of time after the PS4 version. Since the game is very much about the freshness and pure joy of discovery, I'm glad to be able to play it first and be able to claim and tag my discovered planets and biological species.

The question is, can you even land on planets in Elite: Dangerous? Or is that a work very much in progress that we won't see for another 1-2 years after release? It's has cool sim mechanics, but you're just sailing through space. When will you be able to land and explore endlessly beautiful and diverse environments and ecosystems?

https://www.youtube.com/wat...
https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Looks to me like this is the extent of that, which is fairly disappointing, but I'd like to know more. What's the deal with planetary exploration in this game?
-----

@ darthv72

Elite seems to be to be more of a sterile deep spacecraft sim and data gatherer, with not much convincing or endearing planetary exploration. No Man's Sky is a vibrant 70's sci-fi style exploration adventure game in which planetary life and technology is celebrated by discovering it. The games are very different, both visually and mechanically.

gangsta_red985d ago (Edited 985d ago )

And what will you be doing in those endless environments? So far all we're doing is mining and naming planets. The devs have said that you can go a whole lifetime and never meet anyone, that sounds fun? You are doing the same for No Man as you were with The Order Digital remember? You were adding more elements to a game that you clearly knew nothing about and basing it on only a few selected youtube demo gameplay clips.

And it hasn't been said that the game isn't coming to Xbox One and given how a lot of games are being announced for Xbox One from PS4 everyday there's no doubt that this one will come too.

No Man's Sky seems great on paper and is definitely intriguing even with nothing shown or known, but Eilte is more of an ode to great science fiction movies that fuels the imagination of young explorers with the vast mysteries of space that also successfully manages to bring players together to form great alliances and actually change the balance of an entire universe.

PM me if you want to discuss more about the differences of each game. They both look really cool, can't wait to see them both in action.

@Digital -seems you didn't read this preview:

-It doesnt sound like you will be just sailing through space and actually theres tons of interesting info about this game in this news piece:

"if you can work out how to master flying with the flight assist system off, then you can perform tricks like flying backwards at full speed while firing and flipping on the spot. That’s not notably harder on a pad. Indeed, almost everyone I saw around the office was playing with a Xbox pad, including Brookes. “From a design perspective, the core mechanics aren’t really going to change between PC and Xbox,” he says. “I play with a pad."

"The Xbox One version was still at an early stage when I went down to Frontier, but I glimpsed some new content coming to Xbox One at launch that will make the PC crowd jealous, even though it’s only a timed exclusive. On top of that, there are ambitious add-ons coming down the line, such as seamless space-to-atmosphere flight and landings on planets. There will be on-foot activities including FPS combat, ship boarding attempts and walking on populated planets. There will also be multiplayer crews, so you can play with your friends at Star Trek. Eat your heart out, No Man’s Sky." http://www.gamesradar.com/e...

No need. Its coming to PS4.

@Gangster- "And it hasn't been said that the game isn't coming to Xbox One"

Well No Man Sky could very well be bought by Sony as Sony bought the IP to Everyone's Gone To The Rapture.

http://sms.playstation.com/...

At the bottom its shown that the rights are now owned by Sony.

They very well could be working on a deal with Hello games. At this moment, No Man Sky is likely coming to PC then XONE afterwards, but until its released on PC, we really don't know.

Hell, Everyone Gone To The Rapture "had" a PC version being worked on too until the IP was bought.

ScorpiusX984d ago (Edited 984d ago )

So you believe the scenario you describe in your comment can not happen in reverse , cause someone said something. Talk of only wanting things to only happen for your prefered plastic box . Love how that plastic fans come out in droves to utter it's coming to my plastic box to ,like the world would end if it didn't get to that shit box . Talk about not wanting to feel left out .

_-EDMIX-_984d ago

Not really bud, they stated they would get a XONE for it...is coming to PS4, the system they "Hoped" it would come to, thus letting them know the facts regarding that it is, is sorta important.

...your assumption that I'm saying that to brag doesn't really make sense. He wants it on PS4, thus it would make sense to let him know it indeed is coming to PS4.

Thats it....

". Talk of only wanting things to only happen for your prefered plastic box"

Never stated I only wanted coming to a certain system. Your overreaching a bit bud.

Seafort984d ago

PC gamers will not be happy if the Xbox One has exclusive content considering PC gamers funded the game on kickstarter to get it created in the first place.

I wish Microsoft would just stop flashing their money around, fk off and stop buying timed exclusivity all the time. They should put the money into creating proper exclusive games with their own studios instead of leeching off other developers work.

4Sh0w984d ago (Edited 984d ago )

"PC gamers will not be happy if the Xbox One has exclusive content considering PC gamers funded the game on kickstarter to get it created in the first place."

-Why PC gamers already got the well received game they funded back in December, Microsoft is funding new content for timed exclusive rights= pc gamers did not fund this particular content on kickstarter.

Relax its possible to make new games and buy new content for existing games -last time I checked just off the top of my head since fall last year games like Projoect Spark, D4, Sunset Overdrive, Ori, etc are new IPs with more coming. Nothing wrong with what micro is doing and know different than what sony does.

Ciporta1980984d ago

ERM it is coming to the ps4. Just another paid timed exclusive on x1.

http://www.vg247.com/2015/0...

christocolus984d ago

Like No Mans Sky? Can't wait for that to be announced for Xbox One too once the exclusive deal with Sony ends..

Ciporta1980984d ago

@Chris yes exactly like that and like all the other pointless irritating timed exclusives this gen the worst of which being tomb raider.

BecauseImBatman984d ago

Tomb Raider will not come over to the PS4 just like Street Fighter will not come over to Xbox One. I'd put money on it, smaller games like Indies and arcade titles are a different story but big AAA titles that cost lots of money to develop and then advertise are a whole other ball game. You can't seriously expect MS to fund and advertise this game then let it go to the competition a year later. It's just not happening...

4Sh0w984d ago

"Tomb Raider will not come over to the PS4 just like Street Fighter will not come over to Xbox One."

-Yes they will, that's why they are being called "timed exclusives" -it means exactly what it says....if it were totally exclusive they'd would just call them exclusives.= Whatever Microsoft or Sony paid was to secure limited rights for a designated time period and you can be sure the dev will want to port it after that time to earn the extra money from that platform.

illtownNJONE984d ago

Phil Spencer said he's not funding a game that will end up going to Sony in reference to Tomb Raider

4Sh0w984d ago (Edited 984d ago )

Yes, Phil was speaking in terms of this not being a simple timed deal because when you actually invest in the development of the game, not just the usual "hey we'll pay x to keep it exclusive for y amount of time", then its likely that the deal will be longterm situation with certain stipulations in place so they cant put the same game on another platform BUT trust me if it was permanently exclusive Phil would outright say so and the reason CD doesnt sell the entire exclusive rights is because they know the franchise is too big to simply lock it down to Microsoft forever:

"What they do with the franchise in the long run is not mine. I don't control it. So all I can talk about is the deal I have. I don't know where else Tomb Raider goes." -Phil Spencer http://www.eurogamer.net/ar...

-If you read this article its clear Phil is making the point that they funded the game so this version isnt going to another platform, then after what sounds like is going to be a longterm contract(Im guessing 1-2 years) CD will likely release a Tomb Raider "Sigma" version that has a few minor diffrences on ps4.

It's officiall the game will be released on PS4 at a later date.

3-4-5984d ago (Edited 984d ago )

Bought it for PC, it's pretty good, but could still use a few features, which actually are being included in the next and future patches.

I'd probably rather play it on XB1 though, just to have a game like that on console, but yea I'm looking forward to the faction change stuff within the next week.

I just wish it was 3rd person view.

Not a huge fan of 1st person with spaceship games.

Wow looks awesome hidden gem here!!!!

andibandit984d ago

I have over 100 hours logged on the PC version. It's quite enjoyable, but if(unlike me) you are into PVP, you're really gonna get the most bang for your buck, otherwise it's mostly grinding.

TheColbertinator984d ago

Elite on Xbone sounds like the kind of indie games I want to see.

That and Wasteland 2

_-EDMIX-_984d ago

.....both coming to PS4 as well. "indie" isn't a type of game. Its based on the team being owned or IP being owned, in the case of both games, neither has a publisher that owns them and they retain the ips.

If someone bought the team to those games, it wouldn't change your excitement lol, try not to see indie games as a game type.

Its merely a financial status that really has nothing to do with the game. Many established and huge games are actually indie based on their financial status but many seem to link "indie" with a type of game.

Antifan984d ago

It seems people have misinformed understanding of what 'indie' actually means, especially with people who only play on consoles.
You hit the nail on the head, but in spite, you still get disagrees.

TheColbertinator984d ago

Yes I know that. Wasteland 2 is strategic isometric RPG and Elite is space sim.

I did mean an indie budget. Games with small budget but huge ambitions.

matrixman92984d ago

hope they get planet exploration out before xbone release...only really interested if it has that
