Hideki Konno, producer of the Mario Kart series since the Nintendo DS entry, will now oversee the company’s mobile game development.
What a shame and a waste of great talent. Should be watching on what matters, their Wii U/3DS games. I'm sorry but they are just mobile games, no need to have someone with a good track record on them. I mean especially if the guys got skills with great games such as Mario Kart and helped with The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and F-Zero X (a personal favourite of mine) They should have him doing Luigis Mansion 2 for the Wii U. I know Dark Moon is the second one but I kind of think of it as it's own thing since it's a little different from the main game. The guy did a fantastic job directing the first one especially for a launch game
I don't think we should worry that much. Nintendo arrived to the market in a time when most home consoles had a lot of mediocre titles. The Nintendo Entertainment System changed things a bit. Who knows, maybe Nintendo can make at least some decent mobile games. I mean, let's not pretend every mobile title is made with the the purpose of making fast cash via freemium models.
"mobile title is made with the the purpose of making fast cash via freemium models" Yeah but if you were going to buy a Nintendo game or any other game whether it was Microsoft doing it or Sony you would rather play it on an actually handheld or your main console. Most people only really play mobile games when they are travelling and need something quick to pass the time...maybe a metro journey to work/college OR you quickly load one up when your taking a shit. I don't see the point of actually putting any real effort into it and waste someone's skills when they could be put to use on something more people will actually play on and care about.
Iwata stated that they plan to release only 5 titles through 2017
"What a shame and a waste of great talent. Should be watching on what matters, their Wii U/3DS games." I don't think you realize how big the mobile market is. Overseeing a new department and development to one of the biggest markets out there, especially Japan, is no waste of great talent.
Yeah it is...especially when you could get a team of nobodies to create some quick games and put them out...they'd still sell a ton over there because it's Nintendo Why waste talented people on it.
"...especially when you could get a team of nobodies to create some quick games and put them out..." Not the Nintendo way in case you haven't notice they are pretty synonymous with quality. And if they put anything out that happened to be crap it would catch on quick and I would guarantee the Japanese would not buy their product even if it is Nintendo.
Good, maybe the games will be worth something. DON'T DO PLAY-TO-WIN OR EXCESSIVE MICROTRANSACTIONS!
In Japan mobile game market is called "Major League", so he was *literally* promoted.
Hope it does not effect their console development.
