Halo Franchise Development Director Frank O'Connor believes that Halo: The Master Chief Collection’s disastrous launch and long-running online problems are “definitely a black eye for us”.
“However, Halo 5 is being made by a completely different team. It’s a singular product. It was built from the ground up for this new technology, rather than being sort of dragged kicking and screaming from 2001 and forced and shoehorned into a 2014 console. So the problem spaces are still very challenging but they’re radically different. I think the beta is already a decent first step, in a retail environment, showing that we don’t have the same problems.” Good to see 343i owning up to this. Experiences learnt from MCC should help make Halo 5 a much better game. Just strive to make sure Halo 5 delivers on all fronts.a rock solid experience with no issues at launch.
It will be most Awesome! I have complete faith in 343!
Key words "being made a by completely different team" "completely different team" "different team" I hope people can read and understand that.
It's N4G, so I wouldn't count on it.
Agreed, the Halo 5 beta was fantastic, i've pre ordered the limited edition so im ready for Oct. til then i'll be playing Witcher 3 in waiting :)
Honestly I would would have preferred halo 5 to be the failed game over MCC but that's inner child talking
How hard is it to make a game for a system that has already been made??? Why r u making excuses for them when alls they r doing is remaking some games??? Didn't seem to hard for Naughty Dog to remake The Last of Us..... just saying....
Who is making excuses for them? and wth? are you actually comparing Halo MCC to the last of us remaster? Naughty Dog didn't have to port 4 Uncharted games with 4 different campaigns and multiplayer spanning over a hundred maps. did they? ND didn't also have to collaborate with other studios for The last of us remaster. Also each Halo game was made to run on two different engines on the go,which means you could switch between the classic and remastered versions on the fly(Halo 1 to 4). So i don't see why ND is even being brought up here.they only had to port one game.
@christoculous Not to mention Halo 2 is a remake, not a port like the last of us. So they had to reMAKE Halo 2, remaster halo 1, 3 and 4, implement playlist functionality that incorporates every game together, multiplayer AND single player, despite the engine switching. Last of us only had to remaster one game. They're not comparable, not in the slightest. In fact, as far as i know, the master chief collection is the most ambitious game remaster/remake yet. When you add in the fact that you are also going to be getting a remastered odst, it becomes clear just how huge of a deal the mcc is, despite the glitches. They probably could have just remastered 1, 2, 3 and 4 and called it a day, and it would have still been a good deal. But they went the extra 100 miles and remade halo 2, implememted in game playlists swapping (this may not sound like a big thing, but do you realize most remasters like borderlands make you quit the ENTIRE game before being able to load even the ONE game, while halo not only lets you load between 4 different games without quiting, but each individual mission in them, all without quitting?) and are even giving us the best possible we're sorry/thank you gift a game dev could give these days, a full game, remastered even.
"Didn't seem to hard for Naughty Dog to remake The Last of Us..... just saying...." It was actually. http://www.digitalspy.co.uk... Although, your comparison is not really that valid. They had the job of patching together a group effort of old games and sorting out the netcode and bug fixing. I think at this point, the real question is how could a game this broken have a Metascore above 60? Any other game from any other franchise from any other company wouldn't have gotten away with that. Pretty disgraceful. Chrisocolus - they should have been owning up to this before it came out. They should have had the decency to delay a fundamentally broken game until it was a product worthy of its legacy. Whilst it's good that they are saying it, it's bad that it's being said months afterwards. How can Microsoft's biggest game and legacy collection being an unstable stepping stone to a potentially solid game sequel be a good thing? It's unacceptable to dupe your consumers into buying a knowingly broken product. ---- @ Foehammer Notice how I said "fundamentally broken", as in something that you simply cannot play because it's broken. Something that you deserve money back on, which is what one hardcore Halo fan I'm subscribed to on YouTube actually managed to do. TLOU:R was never fundamentally broken like MCC was - it was fairly buggy. TLOU:R wasn't still broken 6 months later. I think it would be pretty hard to ignore that bit of knowledge, particularly around these parts of the web.
@ Digitalraptor Actually the comparison is valid as TLOUR had numerous issues: http://www.dualshockers.com... Funny how you don't mention those or make any comments about ND releasing a broken product?
* Can't learn from a mistake until you own up to it. They got the first step down. At least they acknowledge internally and outward that they screwed up big time. * Halo 5 is going to be a good game. How good ? We don't know yet. If they can find a nice balance between Halo 2,3&Reach, they will have winner.
It's appalling that 343i still hasn't completely fixed Halo: The Master Chief Collection... six months after release. Are 343i the new DICE (Battlefield 4 problems)? Hope not.
Did you not read the article? Just like they piece of the article christocolus posted above. I'll post it again so maybe you can understand a little better. "However, Halo 5 is being made by a completely different team. It’s a singular product. It was built from the ground up for this new technology, rather than being sort of dragged kicking and screaming from 2001 and forced and shoehorned into a 2014 console. I think the beta is already a decent first step, in a retail environment, showing that we don’t have the same problems.”
Thats some terrible damage control. The games ran fine once you could get into one. The SP worked with very little hiccups. It was once I went into matchmaking things got ugly. To this day it is almost impossible to find games and then there is a 50% chance of the connection dropping before the game loads. Then there is their complete ignoring ob BTB, not surprising since Halo 5 is a COD clone. This is all their fault.
@annoyedgamer impossible to find games?? um, not even close. I always find games under a minute and it's been like this for a few months now. Some games definitely drop, but finding games is absolutely painless now. edit: and if you played the Halo 5 beta, you'd know that Halo 5 plays nothing like a CoD game.
Annoyedgamer Stop chatting nonsense. You clearly don't have the game
Maybe he did understand that. Maybe he was saying it is appalling that the game is still not fixed. I't does not matter if the new game is made by martians, Microsoft is still responsible! Microsoft (pick a team) should fix the game people paid for (why defend people that sold you a broken product and will not fix it?). How does your that statement change the fact THE GAME IS STILL NOT FIXED 6 MONTHS LATER? The only valid point is who is making which one. It is still Microsoft that needs to fix what people paid for. SAYING is not the same as doing.
Takes 2mins to get a game on mcc, takes 30 secs on Reach
Its been playable for awhile...
You need a Kit Kat.
Maybe they should turn the Black Eye skull off?
I've been saying this forever, MCC will just be an example to not do ambitious collections in the future for Microsoft and other publishers. The game is a networking nightmare and hasn't been done before so it was bound to have problems but it just damages the image of Halo 5.
I might be the minority here, but I dont feel like it damages Halo 5. MCC problems came from so many teams working on the collection and net code. If we could rewind time, I bet 343i does the entire collection themselves. Atleast we know that Halo 5 is being made by 343i and that Halo 5 will return to it full glory. You tell em Im coming, and Hells coming with me..
I have no faith in 343... The halo 5 beta had the same problems the MCC did... If you were trying to party up and join games with friends... I know it was only a beta but 343 seems to struggle in that aspect
Haven't have a problem for 3 months now. People that claim it is still broken are just haters that don't own the game or console in the first in place. Always able to match make on less than a minute after the last big patch a few months back.
Screw 343 and Screw Halo 5!!! Won't be getting my cash ever again.
The halo universe is as near and dear to me as the Star Wars universe. Yeah MCCC's multiplayer experienced was depressing but so was episode one and the DVD remasters of IV-VI. But damn man I will buy Halo 5 day one and dress like a Jedi on opening night for episode VII. These franchises mean too much to me.
They probably should have delayed it. They are not alone on this but the fix it later approach is getting ridiculous (I am looking at you DICE)
Had a feeling they couldn't fix this problem. I quit playing a long time ago like most of the people. If it had worked from the start, would of been pretty awesome. I couldn't stand anymore, it is a joke. They know mp had been an issue for many games and the decided not to test it properly. You know it's messed up when they can't get games going in their own tourney. I wouldn't blame them entirely I think the Xbox invite party system is broke. Connecting to others has been an issue on madden as well.
It's fixed to a certain extent. Certainly playablestill a bit slow matchmaking but that probably due to low population on the game for being unplayable for so long.
When they have to cancel a tourney because of joining issues. Pretty sure it's safe to say it's not going to be fixed completely. People already turned off by it just like myself. I tried to patient for a few months but I just gave up.
CTF on the PC CE demo. Good times. A shame the MCC has had so many problems.
I thought the collection was great. Yeah the multiplayer was kinda busted, but I actually really enjoyed the campaigns. (Never played 2-4) Was never big on Halo's multiplayer
How about releasing MCC for PC?
i dont get the "its a shame mcc is so broken" statements... how is it a shame? they rushed the shit out with a subpar team and it was an incomplete pile of crap on many fronts, thats not a shame, thats a deserved failure for lack of quality... everyone "trusting" 343 like they have earned any trust, they havent made a single stellar halo game IMO and i see no reason for me personally to believe they ever can do so at this point, i mean hell they pretty much ruined half the nostalgia i had for old good halos with the mcc :/ just my two cents
At least they admit it. Also, does this mean there is a rebate check coming? As in, money talks. If it sucked, then give us a discount card for Halo 5. How bout that?
Sorry to hear everyones still having problems. I'ts been smooth sailing for me and my crew for months now.
I don't know what people are talking about. I've been playing games back to back for a couple of months.
