At the beginning of the year, Microsoft announced a new augmented reality project called HoloLens. If you're eager to hear more about this interesting new technology you won't have to wait long.
I loved the demos shown at build. so much potential.cant wait. https://www.youtube.com/wat... https://www.youtube.com/wat... https://www.youtube.com/wat... more stuff about Hololens. http://www.theverge.com/201... https://in.finance.yahoo.co... http://www.afr.com/technolo... http://www.pocket-lint.com/... http://www.windowscentral.c...
Yeah that was sick! Bring on E3. Get hyped. http://i.imgur.com/U47Raem....
@christocolus Good stuff....Hololens tech looks amazing, I think Microsoft has something truly groundbreaking on their hands.
Thanks for all the links!! That's part with the following TV was so epic! I don't think I've ever been this hyped for a piece of tech before!
That part blew my mind. did you see the part where he widened the screen? it was like an 80inch display.awesome
Yeah MS is just killing it at build this year
Wow I haven't really been following HoloLens much but that seriously blew me away. Microsoft has A LOT of potential with this. I'm still in awe. Wow.
Can't wait to have my own 80 inch tv, this tech is revolutionary
E3 should be pretty great this year.
The demo they show today was mind blowing, yes I used that term from dualshockers.
well thats obvious, maybe im just getting old or what, but no new news has excited me in forever, everything seems so predictable now
If holographic technology is predictable then please can I borrow that Almanac from 2050?
How long will E3 be this year? Since both MS and Sony are doing this VR stuff. I hope we get alot of game announcments from them.
Hololens is AR Project Morpheus is VR And they're completely different.
Wow..E3? So I suspect a game or two that will definitely be at the press conference. Could a xb1 Minecraft with hololens be there?
I sure hope so. I think Minecraft & HoloLens go together like peanut butter & jelly.
I think it's almost a given that minecraft HoloLens will be shown off there, considering it's supposed to launch later this year (I think?).
not trying to start a fanboy argument but hololens seem to have the upper hand on ps vr. i just hope it works
Care to explain how?
I would say the biggest 'upper hand' is the fact that the Hololens has CPU/GPU built in so it can work hand in hand with an XB1 without sucking up processing power. Price point on the other hand, I'd bet the PS Morpheus has Hololens beat by quite a bit
I think they're uniquely different enough that comparisons are that of apples and oranges. HoloLens tries to bring elements of the computer into your everyday world. Where as Morpheus, and Oculus put you directly into the virtual world.
Yep but they are still both good. I would prefer VR over AR for my gaming experiences but thats just my opinion. I can see Hololens being a massive help to people who work with PCs though.
There is no upperhand here. Both technologies are amazing. I'm sure we'll see AR and VR together soon, as well.
Very true, but given what the are= both involve manipulating the reality of the world around you, its almost instinctive that comparisons will always be made. I personally don't care about arguing which is better, both have their place for sure but let's face it they will definitely be compared, especially whenever they hit the market. Like everything else depending on implementation and price, of course 1 or the other will be most preferred by the masses when they are widely available AND regardless of which is more popular there will eventually be one that is generally thought of as the "better" tech/product vs the other. Either way as a consumer I'd like to enjoy both at some point.
Agreed. They will be compared a lot. I just wish fanboys didn't have to jump on this stuff like rabid dogs. This is the future of our medium and possibly many things in this world. AR and VR will lead to some amazing experiences that could never happen, otherwise.
I agree, well said.
Looks amazing for so many different uses. However, I'm not quite sure how it will do with traditional games since it relies on your current environment to be scanned and place objects. For example, if you're playing a FPS. In a traditional developed game, the 3D map/world is already created and you(the first person camera view) simply roam through it. Will the HoloLens use the same technique, or will it have create the world in real-time, constantly streaming new objects and background as you move through it?
Bullets and debris could fly out of the screen at you. Or maybe you could switch your loadout or manually reconfigure your weapon(s) outside of the screen. Plenty of possibilities.
don't over complicate it. Take the UI off the screen including the target reticule and that effect alone would be incredible. Also think about the illumiroom they were showing off about a year ago or so. The same effect could easily be achieved with Hololens Take a game like Elite Dangerous where the UI on screen is already looks holographic. Put that cockpit layout right in front of you in your living room, the results could be spectacular
No HUD on screen for one.
Even VR does not work well without adapting the games around it. Watch Valves talk on VR at EGX Rezzed, they were up with a few developers talking about the problems of VR. Was a really interesting talk.
The bad thing about VR are the side effects from long gaming sessions. Many gamers will learn this the hard way.
Imagine what playing an RTS with HoloLens would be like. MS did recently confirm an RTS is in development for XB1; they need to seriously consider making it compatible with HoloLens, if they're not doing it already.
I know it's from a movie, but, THIS: https://www.youtube.com/wat...
amazing.i can see hololens being used like that in games.i also need to see that movie.
Hopefully a price is given, maybe a release date.
Didn't they say VR is not a thing yet? Yea, but AR totally is, right?
Need a release date and a hint of price tag so I can buy one on day one . Can't wait for E3 .
i mean if hololens didnt sell a lot of people with the screen follow mode idk what to say. game follow mode? can we finally take that dump without missing much from the game. if this thing will allow me to do most of what we all saw on this demo well then they can take my money. besides vr you are still plugged in
