Ed Boon: We Scrapped Mortal Kombat 8

Kotaku: At last year's Midway Gamers Day, Mortal Kombat co-creator and series overlord Ed Boon talked up the then-unnamed eighth entry in the franchise. Boon described Mortal Kombat 8 at the time as "very dark, serious" and "gritty" take on the series, a back to basics reboot that was free of "vibrant, saturated colors." It was said to be heavily inspired by the look of Gears of War.

Scrapped for that T-Rated garbage?

Sad thing, that is.

But on the other hand, I don't particularly like the idea of Mortal Kombat with the GeOW look, either. I like having color instead of those infinite shades of shiny gray.

This game looks so ridiculous.

Maybe they should have scrapped MK period.

Yup. The gameplay is too slow and boring now.

I my self would have like MK8 more then MK vs DC. The MK8 version sounded like it would have been really great. Plus what the fans have been wanting. Plus MK8 would then have been M. Plus if the Mortal Kombat team wanted to make a DC fighting game too they could have just had the game be with DC characters. I just hope after this comes out the MK team makes MK8 next. On a side note I wonder how MK_Red will feel after reading this.

i would have prefered a new MK too not MK vs DC, it looks horrible

I had a friend that actually work on MK8 (he does motion cap) and told me a few of the earlier ideas that they were toying with and some of them sounded really cool. So when I heard about this MK vs DC crap it made it all the more disappointing for me.
