Phil Spencer shares more on DX 12 and Windows 10.
Bring it, Phil! DirectX 12 will do wonders for X1.
I'm more interested on the ease of future PC ports. I'm hoping overwatch makes its way to consoles.
Dammm, I wish folks would stop proclaiming DX12 is going to be some magic API that unlocks X1's mythical untapped power= its not. I also wish folks would stop trying to convince the world and themselves that DX12 won't benefit X1 at all= it will. I won't pretend to be a n4g developer like so many others but based on the majority of evidence thats been reported so far DX12 biggest impact will be seen on pc, its also obvious that there will be at least marginal benefits regarding X1 performance improvements but its clear nobody here has seen any tangible DX12 games running on X1 with proper anlaysis to say for sure to what degree DX12 will improve X1 performance. How about we just wait and see?...my guess anyone expecting major increases or hoping for nothing to happen will be severely dissapointed. Btw, we need DF now just to see minor differences, X1 games look great already, so either way the game type & what the devs do with whatever hardware they have remains far more important.

Being sensible is a lost art here on n4g, especially when you have several people with 5 to 10 bubbles pretending to be neutral and all you have to do is follow their comments in a DX12 thread to clearly see just how biased they are. Objective thinkers will not blindly agree with unproven, speculative statements, but in this thread you'll see the usual suspects agreeing with fiction and calling those who disagree trolls and collectively down voting anyone who disagrees. SMH @GenuineGamer "Do people not realize how more advanced GNM is than dx11?? And now xbox one is getting the same development features as GNM and then some and its not supposed to benefit xbox hardware??" DX12 and GNM/GNMX are APIs (APPLICATION Programming Interface A-P-I with the focus being APPLICATION!!!) not the work of the supernatural.
@Hugs, Why are you so desperate to claim a new API is either "magical" or simply won't work on the Xbox One? The only ones I really see making the claim that DX12 is going to unlock "secret sauce" are the hardcore Playstation fans that are looking very insecure. I don't think any reasonable person believes the Xbox One is going to outperform the PS4 once the update hits. What can be expected is a performance bump that will depend greatly on the developers making games. Some will get more out of it than others. The API is going to make using the eSram easier to code for which is one of the biggest bottle necks we have seen so far. Any improvements are surely appreciated by the Xbox fanbase. To me the most exciting part of the upcoming update will be PC integration which is going to finally allow universal apps across all Windows devices and ease of development for both PC and Xbox consoles. Remote play of Xbox titles on PC is less exciting to me since I currently have my gaming rig connected to the same HDTV I use for my Xbox One and PS4.
I try to be objective here by asking questions to people about the potential use of different parts of XB1 hardware. I never claim to know how much improvement DX12 will offer, I merely talk about an improvement in efficiency coming with DX12 because we don't know by how much yet. Inevitably I get some offensive troll with 10 bubbles breathing fire about how I'm ignorant and DX12 won't change the hardware and it won't change anything else either. Most of us never proclaim hardware will change since hardware is static. I find more people here agree with posts saying DX12 won't improve anything, which is totally wrong. Very seldom do I find Mr.X trolls here, but I see many of us who say XB1 efficiency will improve being grouped with these fringe lunatics just the same. Matter of fact, most XB1 supporters who use the term efficiency get bashed for saying the hardware will improve and people agree with the trolls for doing it. The saddest thing is that neither group is getting labelled as trolling, personal attack, or reported offensive. If they are allowed to continue then none of us can reasonably expect to have any meaningful discussions anywhere on this site. Edit: The bubble system/report functions are there for a reason and, although broken, it's the best we have. Can we all please work together to clean up this site by using this system?
@XboxDD Good lord the disagrees are flowing today. Windows 10 and Dx12 on the xbox one can NOT be disputed anymore, no matter how much some people want it to fail. Phil Spencer himself tweeted this link http://www.developer-tech.c... Do people not realize how more advanced GNM is than dx11?? And now xbox one is getting the same development features as GNM and then some and its not supposed to benefit xbox hardware?? Come on people use your heads and stop being so salty. @aceitman There are no dx12 games on the market yet. The witcher 3 is not dx12 although i did hear that it may get patched to dx12 later in the year along with Batman. But that may be pc only im not sure. tbh the results they have got on xbox one hardware on witcher 3 with the limitations of dx11 is amazing. Ps4 is not limited like xbox one version and all they got is a slight res advantage, other than that they are identical. Says alot really. DX12 will close the gap.
It did not help anything on the Witcher 3 it's 900p , less shadows and effects. I don't see anything that dx12 has done on x1 on the witcher. And also the engine has to be made with dx12 which the witcher 3 is not.
@aceitman DX12 isn't implemented on the witcher. Only title known to be using any feature of DX12 is fable and that game isn't full DX12.
@play4life76 Yeah, so your trying to tell me the newest version of Direct X is not going to benefit the Direct X BOX ?? smh... keep dreaming. Since you clearly cannot read an entire article to get an understanding of the situation i will quote these sentences from the same article for you. " The Xbox One uses an architecture by AMD, and therefore the benefits we detailed yesterday will apply to the console. DirectX 11 has been a limiting factor in development for Microsoft's console as developers have been forced to use it, whereas on the PC (and PS4) other options have been available such as Mantle and OpenGL. " " PS4 developers tend to use OpenGL, of which a spiritual successor called 'Vulkan' was announced at GDC back in March. Vulkan is cross-platform, but is not as "low-level" as PS4's own APIs. Developers who want to target just the PS4 (mostly first party studios) will continue to use the console's own APIs for performance. Few other developers will want to learn or use this due to the difficulty of then bringing their title to other platforms such as PC. " So to break it down for you, Vulkan is not better than GNM. It is simply a broader easier to use API and better for cross platform, Where GNM is PS4 exclusive and offers better results if used correctly. Vulkan will offer similar benefits for game development as dx12 for devs but so does GNM which the system already uses. PS4 gets NO performance benefit from using Vulkan over GNM. First party devs will continue to use GNM for performance.
I know, it seems people would hit the disagree button for anything Xbox related, or just being positive about Xbox.
not sure if trolling or delusional.
Looking forward to the dashboard change and functionality between X1 and W10 devices. And of course DX12. Glad I'm in the preview program.
This months preview has been pretty dry so far. I think its because windows 10 is about to drop *fingers crossed*
im looking forward to tech demos that look nothing like the finished product.
DX12 previewed on X1? That's weird how they gonna do that? Is DX12 coming sooner thatn we thought? As far as DX12 goes sure, I'm looking forward to better performed games. Still have no clue how X1 will utilize it but optimistic still to say the least.
“DX12 previewed on X1“ Was thinking about that too. Maybe the windows/dx12 update will come with some demos or updates for some already released games. Its definitely going to be a big update and i expect it will come with a new Dashboard/UI
I am not in the preview program. You guy will get to see the interface and the effects it has on Dashboard functionality. I wonder if you will get to test it in May or if they will wait for E3? I would think they would want to test next month, then release to the masses during E3 when they are showing the games.
Whats your gamercard? I can invite you to the preview program if ya want?
invite me my gt is BWheelchair
Nice! Look forward to seeing how much the UI changes with windows 10
In Phil we trust.
Glad to be a part of the Preview Program. Really like how Xbox One is becoming more of the users console rather than exclusively Microsoft's. Can't wait for the new UI update along with the DX12/W10 integration. It'd be cool if Sony does something similar for the PS4 for general feedback from players. It's a win/win for gamers and MS/Sony.
I'm all for DX12 and all. But many devs comfirmed that it wont have a massive impact on the console's hardware when making games so why is everybody so excited??? It isnt like DX12 is gonna make every microchip in the XBONE 14 000 faster now, is it? Choo choo!! ALL ABOARD THE HYPE TRAIN!!!
What are you on about? Why wouldnt people be excited about a new UI, OS and improved API? Just because its not 14 000 faster (your words) people shouldnt be excited? So many stupid comments on these articles.
Why does any improvement have to be massive to make a difference? If I were insecure, I would worry more about Windows 10 and the way PC and Xbox will share apps and possible cross play with games.
I'm not a developer nor know anything of programing. But I think that DX12 will not have much impact on X1. It is not magically going to improve games that already exist. Maybe future games developed using it, but not current or past games. For PC, yes. The reason in my thinking is because the benefit of consoles, we are guaranteed each game runs how it was meant to for that console. so no need to worry if your system will run it. But on Pc's, because you can tweak the settings to increase performance or graphics or both, it will have more of an effect on that because the system is not locked.
Is there even a single DX 12 game coming this year?
MS is playing people. not releasing benchmarks but really hyping dx12. mart move ms people will continue to think the world of it and it actually doesn't even have to improve anything.
Scalebound is definitely using DX12, I can't wait.
Let us ALL wait and see how its going to work first.
Sweet! That new super cool thing that is going to sell Xbones! I am so excited, you guys.
