Bloke, 22, in knockoff Microsoft Xbox ring gets 18 months in the cooler

A 22-year-old member of a games-hacking ring that sold counterfeit Microsoft's Xbox One consoles could spend the next year and a half behind bars in America.

A US court sentenced Canadian David Pokora to 18 months in the slammer for his involvement in a group accused of stealing an estimated $100m to 200m worth of source code and other internal documents from Microsoft, Valve, Epic, and other major games studios

Way too much time and effort spent just to build something that probably won't be able to run any games anyway.

Sure the current gen consoles are almost PC's, but they are different enough that I doubt the OS and games will work correctly on off the shelf PC components.

Idiot.Could have just gone to school, got job, build a career and live in peace like most people...

LAWSON72906d ago (Edited 906d ago )

Yeah because everybody would be satisfied with that kind of life. This guy lost but what if he did not would he still be an idiot eventhough probably much more successful than most people.

Watch media like Wolf of Wall Street and Breaking Bad and open your horizons to the different ways of life. Sometimes a boring and safe take on life is not the experience people want and if they want to take risks go for it but the smart ones know what they are risking just belief it worth the reward and for them it very well may be

Sometimes not seizing opportunity whether it be illegal or economically risky can eat people up inside. Just because you play it safe does not make you smart and happy
You might see him as stupid for not living the life you see as satisfactory but he may see you as a boring person that plays it safe. Not trying to defend the guy because he is a criminal and deserved what he got but if he knew the potential outcomes and simply took a risk to get the reward he is not exactly stupid

You don't have to do illegal activities to live your life in a way that is not boring or safe. Doing something illegal is not necessarily exciting nor unsafe...

He is an idiot no matter how you slice it.

If you do illegal stuff you deserve to be caught. And when you are caught you deserve to serve time.

He is stupid and an idiot because he wasn't creative enough to find better ways to direct his personal talents, energies, and resources.

Psychotica906d ago

What?? How is getting away with doing something illegal in any way successful? Doing anything that can cause you to go to prison is idiotic and stupid. That's like saying even though I used cheats in my favorite video game I am more successful than you are because you couldn't beat the game by playing by the rules. Ridiculous..

I feel the submitter tried to make the article title as difficult to read as possible lol.

But anyways this is good. This guy got what he deserves.

18 months for stealing hundreds of millions seems a bit light, don't you think? You'd get more time than that for selling pot.

mhunterjr907d ago (Edited 907d ago )

He didn't actually steal $ hundreds of millions, that's the value of the IPs. Had they actually made anywhere near that in their operation (and actually cost the IP holders a significant amount of money) then surely their charges would have been much more harsh.
