BNR: A good long while ago I noticed that the Nintendo DS/mobile phone version of Final Fantasy IV came to Steam and it was kind of... Ugly. Well, great news- Final Fantasy IV: The After Years is also coming to Steam, and it's just as ugly.

A landmark RPG rich in personality, Final Fantasy IV took the series to the moon and back.
This was the game that got me to notice the series. 6 is the one that captured my heart and 7 was when it cemented it as one of my all-time favorite series. For me 4 - 9 are the best. 10... I can appreciate it and enjoy it, but it doesn't hold a candle to the classics. 12 is good too, but I can never finish it. 13... well, it's--it's a game. 15 starts off pretty strong, but then feels rushed and slapped together with duct tape and glue by the end.
I'm hoping 16 will blow away all expectations and really give us a game that rivals the classics. The trailers are doing a good job in making me think it can!
Yeah, I am similar. 4 and 6 are my favorites, with 7 and 10 next. Everything since 10 has gone downhill (not counting MMOs). I don't hold much hope for FFXVI, though it is very pretty.
Yea i'm with ya, there. Don't get me wrong, I think 7 Remake really restored my faith in Square Enix, but I miss the good ol' turn-based stuff.
@CrimsonWing69 Ah, FF7 Remake completely slipped my mind! I enjoyed that one, though I haven't touched Intergrade yet.
The theme of remorse & redemption still haunt me today. This game also introduced the famous Crystal Theme.

Which is why when people say shit about Squall I know they probably haven't taken an interest in his character development with the story.
He did change by the end of the game. But it was too sudden, and too late in the game.
"He is distant because of just how taxing losing his parents and sister was on him as a kid"
Another reason why FFVIII's plot twist sucks. He can remember that, but he doesn't remember a single one of the people he lived with at the orphanage. It seems like GFs choose very carefully which memories they erase...
Too sudden? You can see him slowly change based on actions and dialogue over the the course of the 4 discs

Hell one of the key parts is in disc 2, where he becomes leader during the Garden battle and gives his speech, it’s only half way through the game there.

i feel like the romance between him and rinoa kind of happened too sudden.
the english localisation is also not as good as others.
but i agree that he is a good character.
Ramza is the greatest FF protagonist of all time. Excellent characterization.
Out of everything you could say about Lightning, you picked "Independent", she is the opposite to that, perhaps the only thing that was interesting about her is how mentally fragile she gets when there isn't a goal blinding her
She could never do it on her own, Hope showed her that she was broken, she apologized to Snow because she saw through him how she could be a good sister, she literally seemed Noel and Serah for help in the second game, this is not a criticism btw, a character that learns and develops is better than a cold block (even if the character is boring)
Ugly indeed. I wish they just ported an HD version of the sprite version on the PSP.
This is just as bad as the announcement of FFVII on the PS4.
