‘Battlefront,’ ‘Mortal Kombat X,’ and Nickel and Diming. Oh My

Leave it to EA to take something that has so much potential and then muck it up. It’s like they can’t help themselves! It’s like these people are just incapable of doing things without making it into a way to make cheap bucks. Of course, they aren’t the only one. Nether Realms has also decided to get in on this. Is this greed, or are AAA gaming companies so strapped for cash that they have to charge additional money for the games that they put out? This needs to be asked, because the truth is – this nickel and diming trend is going to sink gaming. This “freemium” style of creating games is garbage. It’s insulting to gamers, and it needs to stop! Now! Perhaps you need a bit more context. That’s fair. Let’s get down to the nitty-gritty.

True they are mad expensive.. :(

Starbucks_Fan1065d ago (Edited 1065d ago )

I'm probably gonna wait for a Mortal Kombat X Komplete edition.

Neoninja1065d ago

I said the same exact thing myself when the game dropped. I am not a fan of DLC at all. I much rather wait for the complete package then bits and pieces.

Xavior_Reigns1064d ago

Will it happen though? Don't be surprised when GOTY, Complete, Definitive, etc editions are stopped. Just an example - still waiting for a Mass Effect Ulitmate Trilogy Edition that includes everything ever created for the series on disc.

I know I am going to get a lot of hate / disagrees for this comment but I welcome the crash with open arms because it seems this is the only way these AAA companies are going to wake up and learn as nothing else seems to be working.

it's a shame really because for the 100 of us who are making a stand against this sort of nickle and diming there are millions who have this " so as long as it does not affect me personally why do I care attitude"

UKmilitia1065d ago (Edited 1065d ago )

the majority who dont care and suck it all up are either getting money from mom or dad(credit cards) or are on state benefits because they dont earn the money it has no value.

people that work damn hard like myself and im 34 next month see how much of a ripp off all this stuff is and have more value of money.

i know some DLC is about a £1 but why take it out of the game? its just money grabbing, especially when they release it DAYONE and announce months before release.

PAID DLC should be onl,y allowed after game has been on market 6 months to expend the game, but they charge you for all this DLC and a game ends up costing over £100 and then they release the next one and say all the stuff you bought is useless.

only thing that doenst do this is likes of Rockband

SpinalRemains1381064d ago (Edited 1064d ago )

I agree with the hatred of DLC, but take it easy with the bashing ppl on a fixed income.

Its not cool to speak for others and assume you know the value of a dollar more than someone you dont know.

Their bills are just as real as yours, and come to think of it, they may appreciate a dollar more than you since there is no OT in their future.

JackBNimble1064d ago

Because people on a fixed income can even afford to buy dlc. I can tell you that people who can barely afford to get by every month on their fixed income know the value of money.

OT: not all dlc is bad or a rip off either. Yes there are dev's and publishers that want to nickel and dime you to death, but you also have a choice not to buy or support those developers.

I am one who will buy UBI softs rocksmith dlc every week, just an example of the dlc that's not out to rip the consumer off.

dreamed1064d ago

If your on state benifits i'm pretty sure you cant afford £59.99 for a game anyway, but i agree with mom n dads credit card.

UKmilitia1064d ago (Edited 1064d ago )

to the folks on about state benefit, i dont know where u live but near me people are on alot more than me and i work.

im not talking about the people who live decent lives im talking about the benefit squad that think a console is a requirement and not a luxury and the people pissed constantly and claiming £200+ a week through having 3 and 4 kids and claiming they cant work etc.
In northwest(uk) its full of them.

@spinal bills just as real as mine?i dont mean the normal people who need benefits,im talking the ones who always walking around with brnd new trainers, free rent,no council tax,sky tv,flat screen tv. i dont call that worried about bills.

depends where u live i suppose but in northwest(uk)its more of a way of life than a support system.

@dreamed when has a game been £59.99? guy near me sells them with no case for £22.50 and also i never paid over £35 for a brand new release in years.

At this point I couldn't care less if/when the AAA industry crashes, because they simply can't produce anything I'm interested. The emergent AA market is a much better fit for me. Between that and B-budget indies, I have everything I need.

Except mutha****en Souls.

Mikelarry1064d ago (Edited 1064d ago )

i couldnt agree more, i can seriously only count 2 games i am kind of optimistic about

everything else I am like not in the bit interested and could wait months if not years for them to release the " GOTY" or as i like to call it the complete bug free edition

terminallyCapricious1064d ago (Edited 1064d ago )

Its good people are starting to see these things and react to them by not buying these cash grabs. Seems like AAA game after game recently has been jumping into the free2play business style without actually being free2play. Microtransactions and dlc like crazy.
