Star Wars Celebration: Battlefront Does Not Have Space Battles, Prequel Era

Star Wars: Battlefront will not have space combat, nor will it launch with Prequel Trilogy era settings, vehicles, or characters.

“It’s not much about space,” Patrick Back, General Manager at DICE told IGN. “Most battles are planetary battles, so our focus right now is to make sure we only get that right. The core of Star Wars battles — the Endors, the Hoths, et cetera — you want to take that to perfection. You want to do it right.”

No SP??Wat kind of bs is that.

-Foxtrot1186d ago

I know right.

Plus no space battles

Come on ¬¬

Crimzon1186d ago

Yeah it's weird to see him hype up specific battles like Endor & Hoth but how can you have a Star Wars game with X-Wings and Tie Fighters, and not have a Death Star level? Probably saving it for the huge amounts of DLC they have planned.

bleedsoe9mm1186d ago

they want to be faithful to the original trilogy but leave out the death star battle , whats up with that . i know i know probaly will be DLC but that could split the player base of a online only game .

Conzul1186d ago

"It's not much about space," he said.

lol, one EA game I let myself get hyped for, and now this.
Next gen my ass. We had 8v8 Space battles on PS2 FFS. As part of the CORE GAME (non-DLC).

My brain....hurts...

Agreed with what you guys said, bloody DLCs similar to battlefield and their premium edition add on packs, lol lol Battlefield naval strike introducing dramatic water base battles? calling it Battlefront Space warfare expansion pack.

Major step back in regards to battlefront 2 which had space battles and have both eras (BF1 had both eras but no space) - more DLC, great =/

image is relevant, thank you as also EA

From comment on source and had seamless transitions between land and space battles - wtf before EA took over there were space battles and seamless transitions =/

and to my surprise pre-orders are already littered with DLC, sigh

would have enjoyed a SP but then again the SP campaigns for DICE battlefield games weren't so great anyway

My head also hurts

SilentNegotiator1185d ago (Edited 1185d ago )

I'm officially de-hyped. I knew EA would find a way to screw us over (no doubt we will see space battle DLC).

This is why I just want to see my favorite game series of all time take a bow (Banjo-Kazooie, SW:BF, Spyro, etc), not live long enough to be abused by companies like EA and Activision.

-Foxtrot1185d ago

You either die as a good franchise or live long enough to see yourself become ruined.

DemonChicken1185d ago

This actually just hit me while looking at another news piece lol

I remember playing this back in the day but seems it's is going strong with added SP. Just curious to see now with all the information available how will it stand against this mod which is a star wars skin on top of a BF game

Bdub20001185d ago

The hype train has left the building. I'm a little less interested now.

By the way, I hate X1 now. It's faulty and Microsoft won't repair it for free. I bought way too many replacement 360's and I won't do it this generation too, it failed a week after warranty. Guess I'll be joining the PS4 camp sooner than expected. f*** those faulty Xbox. Sorry, I just got off the phone with their service rep and I'm pretty salty at all the digital content I'm gonna lose.

Septic1185d ago

Yeah well its not ruined so let's not go overboard with the gloom and doom.

But it's called STAR Wars and we can't fight in space? Yup DEFINITELY expect this to be in DLC.

Lame. Still, the game looks promising. Im eager to see more of it.

I thought I just read on another article that there will be a SP mode. Why do I keep seeing conflicting info about this?.

-Foxtrot1186d ago (Edited 1186d ago )

I honestly think its game sites trying to turn a negative about the game into a positive because of how hyped the game is.

They are just objective missions like the first game, no full of campaign mode. So they are trying to make out like that's the single player "campaign"

3-4-51186d ago

Fox.....are you sure your not just overreacting a bit.

You seem a bit bum hurt .

-Foxtrot1186d ago

Oh hurt that one of my favourite games is taken a step back after how long it's taken for the new game to come out. Not to mention the fact it's now sounds like every other generic multiplayer game out there.

Yeah...I'm hurt

thorstein1186d ago

The trailer looks like SP (especially the scene with Vader.)

Hairy Chewie1185d ago

I think it was IGN that mentioned there would be SP but set on the same maps as multiplayer with different objectives. That's fine by me as long as it's done well. But let's be honest, we're all here for the multiplayer anyway.

Antifan1186d ago

It's saved for the DLC and premium content lol. Typical EA.

TheHaloGuy1186d ago

Who gives a crap about SP?! They wouldn't do it justice anyway. The big point here is no space battles! That sux w33nr bawlz.

zeuanimals1186d ago (Edited 1186d ago )

They said no campaign, not "no singleplayer". Though their mission design for single player doesn't sound that appealing. I prefer the way it worked in previous games with the skirmish mode or whatever. It's like multi-player but with bots and across a number of planets in a risk-esque fashion.

skulz71186d ago

Wait, Game Informer says there is single player..

SpaceRanger1186d ago

The way IGN put it was that it's more like the missions from the very first Battlefront. Except that you can also play them split screen or with others online to finish the mission.

I guess to make it seem like you're actually part of the major Star Wars events with others. It sounds like they're trying to stay away from NPCs and keep it fully multiplayer for missions and PVP. I'm sure we'll find out more soon.

Majin-vegeta1186d ago

All I know I better be able to make my own galactic conquest matches.

Farsendor11186d ago

And assault mode with Hero VS villian

Snookies121186d ago (Edited 1186d ago )

A Star Wars game where you can't have a war in the stars? Lol, seriously though that's fine as long as the planet-based battles are incredible.

kiz26941186d ago

As long as there Galatic Conquest via MP matchmaking im cool.
