Phil Spencer Praises Bloodborne Sales

I know some will question me but wanted to say it's cool to see Bloodborne sell 1M+. New IP is hard, congrats @PlayStation @fromsoftware_pr ~Phil Spencer

Concertoine3298d ago

It really is good to see hardcore games like Bloodborne and Dark Souls see solid mainstream success.

chrismichaels043298d ago (Edited 3298d ago )

Congrats to Sony and Bloodborne on reaching 1 million sales so quickly. Like I said before, its definitely well deserved for an incredible game that is probably 2015s first major AAA Game of the Year contender.

You know a game like Bloodborne is something truly special when even members and officials from other gaming communities are impressed and can appreciate all of its accomplishments and early success.

Software_Lover3298d ago

There is only one gaming community.

@Software_Lover

I'm not going to disagree with chrismichaels based on that, because I agree with everything else he said. You're right though.

All of us together, makes up the gaming community.

KwietStorm_BLM3298d ago (Edited 3298d ago )

@Software_Lover

There should be one gaming community. We all should wish for the best for this industry. But you've been here far long enough to know we don't have one community, sadly.

DeadManMMX3298d ago

@breakpad your ignorance is showing. Both the games you mentioned are great Sunset Overdrive is anything but soulless and was one of if not THE most fun game released last year. *sigh* why bother. A troll is a troll is a troll is a troll.........

Death3298d ago

@Brakepad,

Did you honestly say the MCC has no substance? Just the fact the word "Collection" is in the title should have tipped you off the game doesn't lack "substance". The issue that plagued the MCC at launch was it had a hard time performing matchmaking for 4 different games at once.

Sunset Overdrive is sitting comfortably at 81 on Metacritic. It would be challenging to say it is "Souless" with all the favorable reviews it received.

Both of these can be good games without taking away from Bloodbornes sales or how well it has been received. Currently it sits at 93 on Metacritic which isn't just excellent on it's own, it's also the highest rated game exclusive to this generation.

magiciandude3298d ago

@Software_Lover

And that one gaming community is a massive war zone.

THEMIGHTYDOOVDE3298d ago

@breakpad You're pretty much everything that's wrong with gaming mate.

Automatic793298d ago (Edited 3298d ago )

Congratulations to Sony and FromSoftware with there New IP. Congratulations to Phil for stepping up in the videogame industry and giving praise to the competition. Glad he is on MS side.

@Breakpad

Your exactly why trolls exist.

Muerte24943298d ago

@death,

Halo MCC was kind of a way to milk the franchise. I'm certainly not saying bloodborne did anything unique. But there is a stark difference in the type of games each company promotes. This excludes sunset overdrive of course.

chrismichaels043298d ago (Edited 3298d ago )

@SoftwareLover - You are correct. We are all gamers, but we are a gaming civilization made up of different communities. But that is not meant as a bad thing. Everyone has different tastes and opinions. Its what makes gaming such a special culture.

@MichaelLito - Just like all of the times Shuhei Yoshida has sent public messages to Microsoft over the years wishing them good luck and congratulating them on their accomplishments. Its always great to see professional courtesy from both sides.

krypt19833298d ago

I agree bloodborne is a great game i enjoyed it enough to platinum it. Yet the ps fanboys brag about close to 18-20 million consoles sold yet the exclusives only sell 1 million and thats a trend on playstation consoles I don't get it ..

memots3298d ago (Edited 3298d ago )

Gotta keep that "good guy" appearance going.
Quick put on a Braid T-shirt

Halo2ODST23298d ago

@Death , the mcc has only been playable recently, & because it was broken for 4 months has lost it's population (even faster than halo 4 lost it's lol) it ranges between 10k - 20k, its ridiculous, i play reach more now because you can actually find games.

fiveby93297d ago

I am trying not to be so cynical about Phil's frequent praise for PS4 related titles. Certainly the image he is trying to project benefitsthe brand a little and seems admirable if not magnanimous. From a gamers perspective I admire the work Phil has done to turn the platform around. From a business perspective, I think the jury is still out on how successful the X1 will be based on their original goals when the platform was designed. Is the platform profitable? I am not so sure. I am glad MS has made strides in refocusing the brand back to games at it's center. Would I buy an X1? Not at the moment, but I'd never rule it out. Really enjoying having PC and PS4 right now.

It's not as though Phil has anything to celebrate with xbone so he may as well celebrate PS4's successes instead

@S2Killinit.

You have some good points. The xbone is barren at the minute

S2Killinit3298d ago (Edited 3298d ago )

true, but its not like he is actually celebrating, its a PR thing. He is acknowledging the competition's success because to do otherwise would look bad if they don't currently have an answer for it. its sort of a thing you do to stay relevant. Notice that he would not be congratulating anyone if Microsoft had a triple A game out at the same time.

miyamoto3298d ago (Edited 3298d ago )

He didn't have to do this.
This is not the M$ style.
Everyone knows that this praise is just a publicity stunt from M$ to make them look good.

1M+ for a Japanese niche title. Not bad at all.

XanderZane3297d ago

The XBox One is outselling the XBox 360 which sold over 85 million units. The fact that the XB1 could sell just as much if not more is celebration enough. There is nothing wrong with the competition praising a competitor. Microsoft has done this before with Apple and other companies. So I don't see this as an issue. Even Sony has congratulated Microsoft's XB1 in the past. Companies are already praising Microsoft for DX12. I don't think XB1 is barren at all. There is still lots of games to play on it and a ton more are coming. I've been playing Ori on XB1 and Bloodborne on PS4 currently. Just started Neverwinter Nights on XB1 and Mortal Kombat X on PS4. I'm never bored eith either system. So stop with the trolling comments.

I think Phll wants a job at Sony...I jest.

WilDRangeRfc3298d ago

TOTSUKO3298d ago

His future is secure because Microsoft almost sold the Xbox division.

sAVAge_bEaST3298d ago (Edited 3298d ago )

Yes it is, From Software Makes old school games new again.

BloodBorne reminds me of Ninja Gaiden 2 NES style-- brought back from the future. (in a way) i.e. replay. Hard at first. Easy at 3rd attempt.

Game had lots of hype, looked damn good, had a great history with Demon's and Dark Souls, and scored top scores all around. Sony also did a solid job advertising it.

All the right ingredients for a really successful launch and sales.

I still remember buying Demon's Souls and how it had some good buzz, but limited attention from most of the media/gamers. Its great to see how far Miyazaki's vision has come.

The 7 Best Souls-Like Games - Mastering the Challenge

The Souls-like genre remains popular, along with FromSoftware's classics there are many contenders. But which are the best Souls-like games?

toxic-inferno23d ago

Hmm... In my opinion, the 7 best are the 6 made by FromSoftware (DeS, DS1, DS2, DS3, BB and ER), then Lies of P. But each to their own.

kevco3323d ago

Still DS1? You don't feel it's been surpassed yet?

Demon's Souls has the remake of course, but DS1 has surely been outdated?

Smellsforfree23d ago

I think that the DS1 remake is better looking than DS2. The interior lighting matched with the low resolution textures in DS2 is very garish, IMO.

Besides graphics, what do you mean by DS1 being "outdated"? I'm someone who played through Elden Ring and just recently played through the DS series, and as far as gameplay went, there were all very similar.

Cacabunga23d ago

I haven’t played many but Bloodborne and NIOH1 are on top of my list.. had a blast with these 2

toxic-inferno23d ago

For world design and interconnectedness (that's a word, right?) DS1 is yet to be beaten.

9 Years Later, Does Bloodborne Deserve All The Praise It Gets?

Saad from eXputer: "Almost a decade later, it's time to take the nostalgia goggles off and accept that Bloodborne has long been surpassed by its successors."

jznrpg25d ago (Edited 25d ago )

Yes, yes it does. It’s still a great game. Elden Ring isn’t better just different and a bit easier . I like that you have to be aggressive but smart in Bloodborne

thorstein25d ago

I literally replayed it recently and it's better than I remember. I think it's like going back to a beloved book and noticing things I hadn't before.

raWfodog25d ago (Edited 25d ago )

Yo! I was getting ready to reply with the exact same four words you started with lol. Yes, I think Bloodborne has withstood the test of time and remains a great game. That’s why all the fans are hoping for a sequel someday. Hoping that we can catch that magic again with a new storyline.

Leeroyw25d ago

Yes. Just replayed it a few days ago. My first Platinum. And yes. I rage quitted so many times and called it BS too when I started. It's tight. The combat is amazing and the lore is rich.

GamingSinceForever24d ago

Elden Ring was easier? I don’t know about that at all. I remember leveling up in Bloodborne and breezing through it. In Elden Ring no matter how powerful I got I was still catching a beat down from every boss.

thorstein24d ago

That's due to scaling enemies. I remember not doing Haligtree untill near the end and having enemies withstand almost a full blast from Azur's Glintstone Staff Comet Azure. My level was quite high.

Melee characters are not fun in that game, especially for the Elden Beast.

Bloodborne's Potential Remaster Continues To Be Sony's Biggest Missed Opportunity

"Sony is missing out on a hugely profitable opportunity by ignoring fan demands for a Bloodborne remaster and PC port," says Ahmed from eXputer.

thorstein53d ago (Edited 53d ago )

Bloodborne came out on the PS4. It is owned by From Software. What missed opportunity? I am sure the people at From Software know what they are doing. Especially since they are hiring devs instead of laying them off.

Maybe do an article about that instead of writing a hit piece on them acting like they don't know how to run their business.

53d ago
-Foxtrot53d ago (Edited 53d ago )

To be fair Hidetaka Miyazaki said in an interview

“Unfortunately, and I’ve said this in other interviews, it’s not in my place to talk about Bloodborne specifically. We simply don’t own the IP at FromSoftware.”

So the ball kind of is in Sonys court, it feels like a missed opportunity because it’s something people really want and Sony just hasn’t really been bothered to get it off the ground. There was rumours it was at one point but it all went silent.

Cacabunga51d ago (Edited 51d ago )

Sony has been missing nothing but opportunities for a few years now.. since GOW release, it’s worrying silence we’ve been getting..

As for Bloodborne, imo it would be too soon to release it because PS4 game still looks phenomenal..

Bloodborne REMAKE I think will be PS6 launch title by Bluepoint. I truly hope so! 2 gens later we can get the same wow effect as Demons Souls.

Eonjay51d ago

He is right because it is Sonys IP but a little further back he also explained that they only work on one game at a time. This means that From must also be available. In other words it could already be in the pipeline. Ecen if that is the case, it's still up to Sony to reveal it when they are ready. As ever, I prefer not to hear about it until it's about 3 to 6 months from releasing.

CrashMania53d ago (Edited 53d ago )

'Bloodborne came out on the PS4. It is owned by From Software'

Actually Sony owns the IP, same with Demon's Souls. I think they'd prefer if From did the work on any future of both of those though, but if Sony wanted to they could have those off to anyone else to work on them, like the DS remake.

thorstein53d ago (Edited 53d ago )

Yeah. Thanks for the info.

But I still think that remasters should wait a generation. And Blue Point did Demon's Souls which was superb.

It can be a huge risk. And I think Hidetaka Miyazaki hinted that it would be a PS6 title. I don't he has no say in what happens, it's a partnership.

--Onilink--52d ago

To be honest, if there is a remake/remaster (not that it needs one) I would prefer someone else to handle it, like they did with Demon Souls

From many perspectives From Soft is an amazing developer, BUT, on a technical level they are far from impressive, both in terms of dated visuals (again, on a technical level, not art/design) and usually poor performance.

And what is the point of a remake/remaster if not to provide a visual and performance enhancement to a game that already nailed the rest?

Michiel198951d ago

@thorstein what huge risk? Part of one of the most well known ip's in gaming nowadays, there's not much risk there when it comes to a remake.

thorstein51d ago

@Michiel

I meant remasters in general are a huge risk, not Bloodborne.

Bloodborne isn't, but I think it's going to be on PS6, like how Demon's Souls went from PS3 to PS5.

Sorry for the confusion.

Thorstein,

Wow, your post seems angry..relax it's an opinion.

And btw, it is on Sony, they have the exclusive right to the game, on top of that, they could have easily, at bare minimum, offered an official 60fps patch, with a few extras and charged people $10 to upgrade or $30-40 for new buyers.

I believe I saw an interview where , FromSoft said it was all up to Sony on a sequel and other dealing with the game.

A "hit peice", that serious huh?..relax lol.

thorstein51d ago (Edited 51d ago )

Wow you seem angry. I responded to crash 2 days ago about the remaster and who did it.

Why do you care what other people think in a moment about some journalism. Calm down, buddy, it's just my opinion. From 3 days ago.
