hmm both the PS4 & XONE looks the same to me but the Xone looks like it has better colors in some places still looking good at 60FPS

I'm a PS4 player and I agree. In the video it did look like in certain places the Xbox1 had deeper coloring! Especially when it came to clothing. On that note they both looked good.

ONESHOTV23299d ago

lol yes i know what i was seeing i know this is N4G but i know most people here are not blind.

MasterCornholio3299d ago

If you check out Eurogamer's comparison they look identical.

Viryu3299d ago

The thing with the higher contrast and crushed blacks is that Xbox is using its own sharpening filter for antialiasing or something like that. That's why PC and PS4 verions will look near identical, but Xbox will have higher contrast than intended by the developers.

Skate-AK3299d ago

Pretty sure MS took out the sharpening filter over 7 months ago with a patch.

They both look virtually identical. I will be getting this on X1 regardless if it's same, better, or worse than the PS4 version.

To be perfectly honest? I didn't see much difference at all. That much should be expected though. It's a port of a last-gen game with better-understood console architectures.

The only differences I really saw were the woven-knit textures look a bit more vivid on PlayStation 4, but the character's hair was darker on PS4 too. Not sure which one of them needs to be color-corrected, but this isn't going to stoke any fanboy flames. An even match, I'd say.

Side note: am I the only one who thinks Dark Souls II looks incredibly weird at 60fps? The motion is more clear, and I'm sure this will be an unpopular opinion, but I think I would rather play this game at 30fps. Not buying this game since I already beat it last year, but yeah, I think the doubled frame rate is a bit off-putting on a Souls game.

I'm sure it's just me.

Tdmd3299d ago

I didn't understood why you think it looks weird in 60fps. Because the motion is more clear? How is that a bad thing?

DarXyde3299d ago (Edited 3299d ago )

Didn't say it was bad. I just thought it looks weird seeing a game like Dark Souls II running so fluidly. For lack of a better way to put it, certain things always look funny running at a higher rate to me. For example, Avengers (and just about any action movie, really) on a 120/240hz HDTV looks "unusual" to me.

Difference of opinion, really. As I've said, my opinion on the matter is likely unpopular.

An increased frame rate would yield nothing but benefits to motion and input. Completely indisputable that the game is better off with a higher rate of motion. I just think it's really odd looking. If I had a choice of increasing Bloodborne's rate, I might try it momentarily, but in the end, these games are games I'd rather play at 30fps. Strange, I know.

Tdmd3299d ago

Hmmm... I haven't tried it yet, but I'll make sure to keep an eye on it once I own the game. I really hope I can't find it weird in 60fps, for those things can never be unseen! lol

VJGenova3299d ago

Agree. It's just you. :-). I originally played Dark souls 2 on PC at 60 FPS and didn't think it looked weird at all.

DarXyde3299d ago (Edited 3299d ago )

@dmd,

Yeah, man, definitely. I think you'll be more able to appreciate the doubled frame rate than me, but I am genuinely interested in knowing your thoughts once you get around to it. :0)

@Genova84,

Understandable. I think most people would feel the same as you. I'm weird about this. For some reason, I treat games like this with a sort of cinematic eye. Better motion is simply better. I guess it's just uncommon enough for me. Heck, I thought Ground Zeroes was a little strange too, but I quickly got over that.

llxKonanxll3299d ago

Still not was promised during the E3 gameplay demo. :(

Xof3299d ago

...That's not a "promise."
Do you not know what words mean?

llxKonanxll3299d ago

Fine. We were lied to. The final released looked nothing like the e3 gameplay demo.

Femto3299d ago

still nothing compared to the demo, its a damn shame

Xof3298d ago

Fine, call it a "lie."

But you act like you have some sort of rational expectation otherwise.

Which is, frankly, terrifying.

ALL advertising is misleading. That's the point.

llxKonanxll3298d ago

Xof.. there's a difference between 'misleading' and a complete bait and switch. The game reminds me of Alien: Colonial marines.

Perjoss3299d ago

They both look about the same, I've read that the X1 is closer to 50 frames than 60 in places. As for the interior lighting in general though, it looks so bad, at 3:23 they walk down that corridor and it looks flat as hell, its not even an old game. Oblivion had much better looking interiors and that game is almost 10 years old.

Tdmd3299d ago (Edited 3299d ago )

I'm more concerned about the graphical improvment over last gen, and it doesn't seem bad at all. To be able to play on ds4 and at 60fps at that will made for a really improved experience as well.

Into the Abyss: Exploring My Love/Hate Relationship with Dark Souls II

VGChartz's Issa Maki: "I want to appreciate Dark Souls II on the same level as its predecessor, Demon's Souls, or Bloodborne. Yet every time I open myself up to the possibility, my hopes are dashed by small design quirks that eventually add up to a sum of infuriating disappointment. How can a game that improves on the past in so many intriguing ways be held back by issues that never previously existed? Why does Dark Souls II seem to sabotage any sense of enjoyment it creates, just out of sheer spite against the player? Was this conduct on behalf of the developers justifiable in some way – and possibly even necessary? Prepare to quaff some Estus and burn an effigy or two in our likenesses, for we journey once again to the land of Drangleic."
