Will Sony develop a slimmer PS4 in 2015? Based on the PS3 timeline, chances are that it could be in two years or so. But is it even necessary?
Honestly the PS4 is not a very big console in its current form. X1 is the console that needs a size reduction.
No usually they go with 3 years before revision (2006 release, 2009 slim for PS3). PS4 will probably see its first price cut this year though. There are larger GDDR5 chips now than when they started and the CPU components have come down as well as shrunk (they have done internal revisions for a couple of cost saving things as evidenced by new model numbers). Couple that with the fact that by September (likely price cut time) they will have had almost 2 years since release costs naturally come down for computer components in that time frame. Sony should be making a profit even at $350 and possibly even at $300 by September though they may want to space out their price cuts more this gen and get more boosts (unless they really want to crush the competition this holiday and make up for the lost profits later by getting PS+ subs and more games royalties that go along with larger install base).
