Battlefield Hardline fends off challenge of Bloodborne in UK chart

Multiplatform first-person shooter Battlefield Hardline fended off the challenge of PlayStation 4 exclusive Bloodborne in this week's UK chart.

EA's shooter enjoyed impressive second week sales to hold on to the number one spot. As UK tracker Chart-Track noted, Battlefield 4 had a better launch week than Battlefield Hardline, but Battlefield Hardline had a better second week than its predecessor, with physical sales dropping off by 43 per cent.

From Software's Bloodborne, then, misses out on being the UK's all-formats number one by 22,500 units, but it's number one in the single format chart.

2K's current-gen remaster Borderlands: The Handsome Jack Collection debuted in third place.

The only other new entry to make the top 40 this week is PQube's Ride, which arrived at number 25 after releasing on PC, PS4 and PS3.

Bettlefield > Bloodborne? Thats a surprise...

slappy5081062d ago (Edited 1062d ago )

Its somewhat misleading as this chart consolidates the sales of a game for each format into one sales figure. If each games's format sales was split in the chart, Bloodborne would be at the top, becuase as we know hardline is on PC XBox and playstation

jackanderson19851062d ago (Edited 1062d ago )

it is split up aswell, says so in the story. Bloodborne topped on the single platform charts

hell even says it in the description above

thinks of note in the breakdown, Hardline sold better on PS4 than X1 and Borderlands sold better on X1 than PS4

and the Order had a decent jump in sales 17th to 8th

And Bloodborne only came out on Friday too.

Either way, I wouldn't read too much into it. Bloodborne's sales should be great and its positive critical reception will do it a lot of favours in the future. Cant say the same about Hardline...

I'm surprised that Battlefield is selling so well, it's definitely a shock to see it debut at the top when taking into account not only the disastrous launch of Battlefield 4 that I would have hoped would make people wary, but also the beta test for Hardline seemingly leaving a lot of people unimpressed.

I guess people flocked to buy the game regardless? On the other hand however, we all know that the Dark Souls games were niche titles, so perhaps it's not so surprising that a spiritual successor to a niche franchise would not dominate the charts, especially when console exclusive?

Either ways, I'm still surprised.

You are totally right my friend. Here is for every console numbers:

Bloodborn#1 in single format, BF:H is on 3 platforms

wow! theOrder had a big jump to #8

Exactly, some folk I know buy every BF and COD regardless if they disliked the last one or complained about it every day they played it or not.

I was in a party with a few people who were playing Hardline the other day, all of them bitching and moaning about this and that, some even saying "I knew it was just gonna be a map pack for bf4 basically." So i asked why they bothered to pay full price for it if they viewed it in this way. Their response was a depressing "I always buy BF, I have to".

It's people like this that encourage EA/UBI/ACTI to push out broken games and not bother to innovate on well established franchises.

FPS players are the worst kind of gamers and the best kind of customers, no surprises here.

Also bloodborne came out on a friday in the UK, giving battlefield a 4 day lead in sales.

Saijahn1062d ago

Bloodborne is a niche game, whereas Battlefield is appealing to a bigger audience. Despite the deserved high scores for Bloodborne, I never thought it would sell well to a large audience.

Haha are you kidding me?! A whole week of Battlefield on 5 platforms against 2 days of Bloodborne on 1?!

You do know Bloodborne was released on the 27th in the UK, right?!

Linked articles on this site get more and more ridiculous.

Perjoss1062d ago

Not to mention BF Hardline is available for multiple platforms whereas Bloodborne is exclusive to PS4.

kraenk121062d ago

I did mention it btw ;)

Who the hell would buy Battlefield over Bloodborne? JK. I know everyone has different tastes, but Bloodborne is absurdly good. I have died so many damn times...2 minutes ago with 70k!

slappy5081062d ago

Ouch! Hope you can recover those blood echoes

MasterCornholio1062d ago

I literally love how you have to hunt the enemy that killed you in order to recover your souls. Makes touching your bloodstains in the other games seem like a pathetic way to get your souls back in comparison.

Kornholic1061d ago

I did, but that's just because Bloodborne doesn't seem like my type of game. I'm sure it's excellent, though.

Malice-Flare1062d ago

lost the all-formats #1 spot by less than 23K units? impressive by itself...

mxguy931062d ago

I got battlefield at launch. Started to finally play it a week after I got it and went to see if anyone wanted to play and everyone was busy playing bloodborne.:(
