Guerrilla Games Aims to Improve Core Engine and Tools While We're Waiting to See their New PS4 Game

It's known that Guerrilla Games is working on a new PS4 game. A few assets were leaked, but the studio and Sony are still keeping the project closely under wraps. In the meanwhile, though, they're also working to improve the tools the game is built with behind the scenes.

Not much longer till we see it announced, it's a definite for E3

Abriael3317d ago

Could be Gamescom too, considering it's an European studio.

AnotherProGamer3317d ago

Probably just a short CG trailer at E3, followed by a gameplay demo at Gamescom

Majin-vegeta3317d ago

Assuming it doesnt get leaked....

Abriael3317d ago

Didn't stop bloodborne :D

TFJWM3317d ago

This is first party thou, much less likely to leak.

Sevir3317d ago

bloodborne is first party! Its codeveloped by Studio Japan and From Software

TFJWM3317d ago

@Sevir Sony doesn't own From Software, at most it would be 2nd party

kraenk123316d ago

@Sevir

From isn't owned by Sony so Bloodborne is second party max.

Well technically GG has two games in development. Horizon will be great I am certain of that. I am very eager to see it in motion. E3 is going to explode with alot of stuff this year.

I am suspecting Cambridge is working on a Killzone PS4 title. I wouldn't be too surprised to see GG announce two games at E3 this year or say at least tease them. I mean ya know since Killzone 2. It has been a new Killzone title about every two years. Last one was released in 2013. Wikipedia has those dates if noone believes me. Possibly there might be one of these two games pushed into say 2016 or so I could expect that. I remember back in May 2014 there was talk of Cambridge hiring for a popular franchise with words hinting at PS4 title. Although nothing has ever been announced.

DeadlyFire3317d ago

Oh wait it was earlier than that even that they hired people for their major future project.

http://www.playstationlifes...

As far back as 2013. hmmm.....

Aloy-Boyfriend3317d ago (Edited 3317d ago )

If they don't show their new game at E3, I will lose it!

3317d ago
DeadlyFire3317d ago (Edited 3317d ago )

Its very likely even if they only tease it for a later date that it will be shown off in some form at E3. With this gen's delays I expect that could be a case, but something should be shown off.

kenwonobi3317d ago

They already had some really mindblowing graphics in Killzone. A improvement on that would be really nice indeed.

Bigpappy3317d ago

Its that what you want from them? Better graphic's? I think the least of their problems, is a better engine. They need to refocus and how to design a game gamers will enjoy, with things like advance AI and better level design. When they get that right then they can go ahead and work on making it shinier and faster.

MRMagoo1233317d ago

What was wrong with the AI is the new killzone ? I would take that AI all day over titanfall AI.

Majin-vegeta3317d ago

Better A.I??Kz2 had some of the best and most aggressive AI last Gen yet people cried when they kept getting killed by them that they had to tone it down for future games.

Outside_ofthe_Box3317d ago

Have you actually played any of their games? Killzone 2 in particular?

Guerilla Games have already proven that they can provide great gameplay with KZ2.

KZ2 had advanced AI (Beating KZ2's campaign on elite difficulty was no easy feat) and great level design (KZ2 had one the most balanced multiplayer maps I have ever played), but GG haven't been able to replicate it since then mainly due to them trying to appeal to a wider audience.

I've been saying this from the jump, Guerilla just needs to have the same mind set that they had when they made KZ2, with all of their future games.

They need to stop worrying about what's popular and trendy and just focus on making a game that's challenging/tactical and balanced (I believe those were the two major points of emphasis they had on the multiplayer end at least in KZ2).

Pintheshadows3317d ago (Edited 3317d ago )

I'd say beating KZ2 on Elite is one of the all time great challenges. The train, the bridge, and the Radec. They took supreme skill.

I think Guerilla's ability at making good games with strong AI (try out the bots on Shadow Fall or the older games) and punchy shooting are often overshadowed by all the graphics talk.

Horizon will likely be gorgeous, but it will also likely have an interesting approach to action RPG's.

Sevir3317d ago

They had something to prove becaue people thought the KZ2 CGI trailer at E3 2005 was real. Call of Duty 4 hadn't released yet and everyone was looking on what they were doing! To this Day KZ2 still holds its own against some of the current gen games!

I want them to get back into the mindset they were in for KZ2. where they had something to prove and a Tremendous hype to deliver on.

KZ2 is their BEST game to date, everything else has been a shadow of that. some better than others, but the they dont match the brilliance of the KZ2.

COD4 ruined the industry.

kenwonobi3317d ago (Edited 3317d ago )

I never mentioned the Ai because Killzone always had some of the toughest smartest AI. Why would they need to improve smart AI that already kills many players and makes them give up on the game? Its kinda aimed towards hardcore gamers as a FPS. Not some easy shootem up where you blaze through it. Thats absurd to even bring it up is why.

I can't wait!

Remember the stir Guerrilla caused when they 1st showed Killzone 2!

Literally unbelievable. Turned out to be my favorite FPS of all time, I remember my heart pumping out of my chest when I beat Radek on the Hardest mode for the Platinum.

Me, in a corner with a knife, waiting for him to appear.

SoapShoes3317d ago

And it ended up looking better than the E3 demo. LOL

OhMyGandhi3317d ago (Edited 3317d ago )

They just don't get it, do they?
The problem isn't with the engine or the tools, the problems lies with what they do with it. They don't quite understand whats makes a videogame gripping. They got real close in Killzone 2, but it ended up being a generic, cliche sci fi shooter with little to say.

They need to hire better writers.

EDIT: and to add, I've owned every Killzone from 1 to Shadow Fall and have walked away dissapointed.

AnotherProGamer3317d ago

Fallout New Vegas lead writer is working on this game so don't worry

OhMyGandhi3317d ago (Edited 3317d ago )

oh, cool.
Did not know that.
In no way am I trying to disparage Guerilla, for what they've done. Killzone 2's Campaign was far more interesting then most military shooter's I've played. (I really don't lump them with Call of Duty or Battlefield, but rather Crysis and Halo.)

As far as the comment below, KwietStorm, I firmly believe that shooters are not over with, what does the year have anything to do with it? Look at games like Bioshock, Far Cry 3, or even WolfenStein: The New Order, and you can see examples of comepelling narrative within the confines of the genre.

If they hired a better writer (which you guys have pointed out to me) Then they are at least on the right path.

WeAreLegion3317d ago (Edited 3317d ago )

They did hire a better writer.

Edit: Ya beat me to it! Darn.

KwietStorm_BLM3317d ago

I think the problem is people consistently expecting a good story and characters you care about, in a first person shooter. It's 2015 and people still buying shooters, then being disappointed by the campaign. 98% of shooters are for the multiplayer. It's just the way the genre is, and it's been this way for years.

JMyers3317d ago

I loved KZ2. I think their single player campaigns are way better than the CODs and BFs. Plus KZ's online is always unique with the weight, modes, maps, plus no auto aim... Some of the best stuff. But it's not for everyone. Its never been mainstream. But that's a good thing in my opinion.

-shoryuken-3317d ago

I have to agree with you for the most part. I loved KZ2, campaign while not great,it was a lot of fun. Gunplay was awesome and so was the multiplayer. Probably my favorite fps of last gen. KZ3 was okay, but I felt that they tried too many different things that were just not fun and the cut scenes were bad, just didn't seem to flow with the game. Multiplayer was good. As far as Shadow Fall, I didn't even finish the campaign yet and might never do so. I don't like the more open world approach, gunplay is not as satisfying as it used to be. Multiplayer is alright.

So I feel KZ2>KZ3>KZSF

Also, after a good amount of time playing only Killzone multiplayer and finally jumping to Battlefield and Call of Duty, I feel that KZ does need Aim assist...I know it's not a popular thing to say, but with a controller I feel that it is necessary to a degree. I'll probably get flamed for this but it is what it is.

I do want to say that I am still hopeful that Guerrilla games will get it together for the next installment.

Guerrilla Games' Multiplayer Horizon Game Could Be Named "Hunters Gathering," Teases Leak

Guerrilla Games' upcoming multiplayer Horizon title could be dubbed "Hunters Gathering," according to a new leak.

Jin_Sakai126d ago (Edited 126d ago )

I wish PlayStation Studios would just stick to what they do best, making great single player games.

Outside_ofthe_Box125d ago

The core gameplay of Horizon is really good, so this is one of the few I can see working out. Also GG does have one of the greatest multiplayer games ever made in Killzone 2 under their belt so MP isn't too far off with what GG does best.

SyntheticForm125d ago

Hell, I enjoyed Shadowfall's MP thoroughly even though it had issues. Guerrilla have delivered solid multiplayer experiences.

Cacabunga124d ago

Oh boy. No idea why they don't want to work on a killzone it's a much more fun multi mode. -

__SteakDeck__125d ago

@Jin_Sakai First. As a business, you don’t just stick to what you do great. If that was the case, Apple would of just done computers and not taken a risk with iTunes and the iPhone. Also have you seen the cost of their AAA games like Spiderman 2? Sony is going to need one of these GAAS games to hit, or expect budget cuts to their SP games. We’re already seeing in the document leak, that they’re asking Insomniac to cut budgets.

Jin_Sakai124d ago

Their studios aren’t masters at GaaS and it’s showing. Naughty Dog wasted all that time and Resources just to cancel Factions and Insomniac's multiplayer Spider-Verse got axed. If Sony really wants a big GaaS hit their best bet would be to acquire EA or Epic Games. You need huge support to keep these games going with content and updates.

purple101126d ago (Edited 126d ago )

OHH GOD YES,, or at least some new shooter. finals was okay but I want more, spesh from 1st party

DaleCooper125d ago

Meh. You know what could be good? A new Killzone.

Magatsuhi125d ago

Hope it's not battle royale.

anast125d ago

It would be better than Monster Hunter, but I'm good with the Gaas stuff.

Up there with the top tier in the industry. Love Guerrilla Games - Horizon Burning Shores is simply STUNNING.

1Victor351d ago

Can’t wait for their next franchise

SullysCigar351d ago

Same. They nailed it with Horizon. The trouble is I also want a new Killzone! Can't I just have it all?!

jznrpg350d ago

I’m with you I want Horizon 3 , Killzone and new IPs

badz149350d ago

I have yet to play Burning Shores as I just started Forbidden West (bought at launch, just unwrapped last weekend LOL) and playing on PS5.

man...I still can't believe the graphics especially now I'm playing it on my LG OLED. that graphics and with stable performance backing it up, GG really is the master of their craft!

Vengeance1138350d ago

32.7M sales in the Horizon franchise! With 8.4M coming from Forbidden West alone! Truly a hugely successful game and franchise as a whole. Looking forward to Horizon III

Shane Kim350d ago

That's kind of a huge drop though. It's only been two games.

VersusDMC350d ago

One year after realease HZD sold 7.6 million.

https://www.noobfeed.com/ne...

So not a drop off.

Unless you're saying a HFW should have sold as much now as HZD sold in 5 years?

Vengeance1138350d ago

It's been 3 games, this includes Call of the Mountain. Also no, its a great improvement over HZD.

solideagle350d ago

lol you are comparing:

HZD: 28 February 2017 - May 2023 (6 years+)

HFW: 18 February 2022 - May 2023 (1 year+)

We will see if it surpass original number.

Phoenix76350d ago

@shane, 2 full main games, 2 DLC add ons, 1 VR spin off game, oh and a an official LEGO set.
Not too bad for an ip that's only been on market for 6 years

REDGUM350d ago

Wow, very impressive. I didn't know the numbers were so high for Forbidden West. Still playing through it myself

thesoftware730350d ago (Edited 350d ago )

Yooo, when I first saw that Killzone 1 footage at E3, my friends my brothers and I were like, Holy shit! When it came out, it didn't look exactly like it, but we sunk so many hours into 1 & 2.

I even liked Killzone: SF, it was a spectacle to look at, and even today it looks good. I hope they make a new one. Can you imagine how that will look, and they can get some modern FPS pointers from Bungie.

blacktiger350d ago

thank you fps lover, I'm with you

talocaca350d ago

Such a wonderful studio. They deserve all their success.

The Decima Engine is absolute 🔥 I'm just mad they have abandoned Killzone.

OzzY-waZZy350d ago (Edited 350d ago )

Kinda wish they move on from Horizon tbh.

potatoseal350d ago

They are probably working on mutiple projects. One of them is Horizon 3, but another is a multiplaer game and probably somehting else.

Imalwaysright350d ago

There were rumours that they were working on a Socom reboot.
