MacWorld's still a month away, and we've already got rumors of of 100GB iPods, Ultra Thin MacBooks, and of course, the iPhone. But what of the old rumor that Apple's eyeing the video game market? Yep, we've got that too.
Too much competetion and no one will make enough money. No on wants a game console based around Ilife. PLZ.
I'm already sick and tired of hearing the name IPOD i don't want to hear Istation.
Actually this would be more pointless than how Microsoft entered the Mp3 player market at least it had a chance Apple lol would have zero. I mean come on with Ps3 360 and Wii already multiple generations into their consoles who is gonna want an apple console?
Apple can hardly make it in the PC market let alone the console market...
...they know their hardware, why shouldnt they? They have plenty of potential to do well...
I could also see Hewlett Packard Entering the console market, they do well at makin kick-ass pc's...
i bet it would be just a MAC, butlike a console you dont have to install games but if you want to you can install normal MAc games 2 but stay away!!!!1
i think they should. you cant have too much competition keeps the other guys on their feet. I mean think about it, sony may have given us alot of crap this time around. but imagine how much worse it would be if they didn't have xbox 360 breathing down their necks. plus the reason why x box is giving us more than their all is cause they know there gonna need to pull amazing stunts to keep on par with sony they learnt that about one amazing game isn't enough. competition is good for everybody thats why there should be more room for more consoles. Lets just hope their idea of a video game console is a good one.
Yes,Pippin was a joint venture with Apple & Bandai. It never came out.
What next 'Dell' making a console.
what if apple made the wii console instead of nintendo?
too much competition is bad. Nobody gets enough market share to be profitable and we could end up with another video game crash like in the early 80's. We don't need every company that is capable of producing an electronic device coming out with a console again.
Hey with the console market expect to grow by billions, you have to expect more companies to start to look at what opportunities are there for the to get some on the console pie (profits attract competition)
Apple can barely get developers to port games to the Mac, how the heck are they going to convince them to develop for an unproven console. I doubt it'll happen, but if they do, they'll loose a lot of $$ because it'll be a flop.
Apple's market is people/homecomputing. They have done a great job doing music and video content and make great desktop publishing machines. Macs are quite capable machine but what has kept Apple from dominating as a home computer is games. If Apple would have taken the time to put some effort into gaming years ago (and did it right) they would have probably had a greater market share today as well as in a position to really challenge windows for the home desktop.
Lets face it the average person at home wants their computer to do more than just work they want entertainment. Apple got it right with music and looks like videos/movie could be pretty good as well. However, they screwed up and ignored the one of the most popular forms of entertainment in home computing - Videogames.
Its never to late to try. After all, as long as you get the rest of the Mac experience and gaming it might be all good. Apple has already proven that they can innovate... perhaps there is some creativity left in game console design.
Just because Apple is hiring game developers doesn't mean they are going to release a game console .... maybe they just want to bolster gaming on the Mac platform.
Perhaps Apple is just creating prototypes for that just-in-case scenario.
Remember Microsoft was laughed at for entering the console race and look were they are sitting now.
Anything is possible. Macs have always been great at graphical stuff perhaps they can make a great gaming machine of some sort.
Give it a rest an let Apple be Apple. If they want to they will. If its good we will be gaming if its not we don't lose out and Apple loses a few bucks.
Its all good.
