The Trials and Tribulations of Bungie’s Destiny

"If someone asked me to summarize Destiny in a single word, without hesitation I would reply with “polarizing.” For a game that sought to bring players together with a new FPS experience, it inadvertently divided them."-Matthew Dimuzio (Resident Entertainment)

I loved and hate it. On one hand I say buy it, on the other I say it is shit. I played over 100 hours and I hate the game, but I loved it. It was a fun addiction that I am glad I broke, but am sad that the raids were so broken and the Crucible didn't have many maps. It just skjdhaksldh left me happily frustrated. I will never play Destiny again, but I know I'll play Destiny 2, because I am a sheep that got their $60 worth in 100 hours, even though the story was terrible and empty.

If you don't believe my opinion is unbiasedly biased you can check and see that I wrote a review advocating for you to buy the game. It was indeed a fun game, but not for everyone looking for a story, or unbroken raids. This post explains my enjoyment completely as I did enjoy it and have some love for it, but cannot really explain it.

Destiny is one of the best games that is completely void of a soul you'll find. It's fairly obvious stuff happened behind the scenes, maybe they were way off track for deadline and forced Kotick's hand and had them cut a whole bunch of content/ideas but ultimately the final result is some of the best gunplay I've seen combined with a game clearly suffering from identity issues.

I just hope Ubi are learning from Bungie's mistakes and deliver the MMO shooter experience I'm looking for. Maybe with Destiny 2 Bungie will get it right but to me, it seems like this Activision partnership is toxic so I'll keep my hype/enthusiasm in check.

Well put!

I've found it to have addictive gameplay but there's so much WTF in the game.
I think it's fair to say the game expansions were never meant to have been expansions rather were originally part of the game and as such have had real issues trying to integrate the content back in just for those that purchased it.
Who would have thought the crucible expansion maps would be separate to the existing content - how bloody nuts!
Why would you ruin the existing raid content in favour of the expansion version.

As you say: Activision = Toxic, Bungie would be far better off going crowdfunding like Chris Roberts has done with Star Citizen

If i had to describe destiny with a single word It would be "repetitive"

LeoDDestroyer1195d ago

You could make that claim about every game.

Yardragon1195d ago

on par with yours, mine would be "segregation".
