It’s easy to overlook the mouse, so long as it’s not actually busted. You think about it once when you buy one and then simply use it after, almost taking its existence for granted. The thing that’s being controlled is the cursor or targeting reticle, and the physical interface? About the only attention it gets is when it needs a cleaning. While the mouse isn’t being thought about, though, it is contributing its own little part to every interaction you have with the PC, which is why gaming mice can be so important to the pro community.
