I guess they liked The Order 1886. I hope the game does well in Japan, it'll definatelt give Sony more incentive to make a sequel and continue with the franchise.

DonkeyDoner3338d ago

it does fine while it compete against god eater and zelda

Mr Pumblechook3338d ago

Great scores for Dragon Quest Heroes and great sales could mean a return of the main franchise to PlayStation.

nucky643338d ago

I'm sure hoping for a sequel - I'm into the story and there are a lot of unknowns I want answers to!

Edvin19843338d ago

@nucky64 yeah I agree the story has been pretty bad ass, and all these assets that they made will be used in the sequel for sure. I am really enjoying this game and just want more of it.

medman3338d ago (Edited 3338d ago )

@nucky64
Spoiler Alert for The Order:1886!!! Don't read if you haven't played and plan to!!

I was not happy with Galahad when he decided not to take Igraine and Lafayette (now Percival) to the East India Company, but instead took the Knight commander. And after discovering the shipping containers full of lycans, how could he not tell the knights, particularly Igraine, who he's presumably been fighting alongside for centuries, what was going on?? Igraine deserved to know. So now Grayson (Galahad no more) becomes one of the rebels? Loved no more, now hated by Igraine? Still respected and given the benefit of the doubt by Lafayette (Percival)? I too, look forward to a sequel, perhaps dlc???

Most people stopped caring for reviews when broken games like AC Unity and Halo MCC got 8s and 9s all around. Reviews are nothing more than paid advertisements these days

Yaay4me3338d ago (Edited 3338d ago )

I stopped caring when great games got horrible scores. Realizing the corrupt state of gaming journalism and how the reviews actually have nothing to do with the games. A bad or broken game being reviewed good is not as big a problem as a good game being reviewed unfairly in my opinion. Its a betrayal of the trust gamers put in these people. Like you said its all about the money, not the games. These sites are basically hired mercenaries. Some of the money that should go into development of games we play is going into the "journalist's" pockets.

Death3338d ago

The Master Chief Collection is a remaster of all 4 games along with DLC and an online component for $60. You are comparing that to a game with between 3-5 hours of actual game play and 2 hours of cut scenes and no online play. Sure, the matchmaking for Halo MCC has been an issue that has seen numerous patches, but it's a pretty ambitious feat considering it's matchmaking for 4 games. What have we seen since launch to make up for the matchmaking issues, another free game and a free month of Live? I don't regret the purchase.

Avernus3338d ago (Edited 3338d ago )

IGN gave AC U 7.8, and Evolve 9.0... having both those games, neither of those scores are accurate in my opinion.

AC U had many bugs, not game breaking for me, but annoying none the less, story was meh, and the online appeal lasted a day. Evolve lack of content + DLC driven marketing scheme is mind blowing.

Somehow Order got a 6.5... I take no reviews serious, and neither should people...well unless you're into the "MY CONSOLE EXCLUSIVES ARE BETTER THAN YOURS!" thing.

@Death

Doesn't change the fact the matchmaking was broken on release, and it was reviewed broken, but it got good scores none the less. Nobody's arguing how ambitious or what free stuff they gave. Call a spade a spade. Don't put sugar on a turd and call it a masterpiece.

Edit: DC servers were none existent on release, and it got bashed for it. It got scores reflecting how unplayable online was. MCC didn't.

Death3338d ago

One of the criteria reviews look at is value. Halo 1-4 scored 97,95,94,and 87 on Metacritic. The remastered collection sits at 85. How much lower should the updated collection get due to the launch issues plaguing most games this gen?

Driveclub got slaughtered in the reviews for multiple reasons. The game was marketed as a social game with an offline component. It was also marketed as a Forza killer which was a mistake since it set up the game with unrealistic expectations. With that said it's still a solid game sitting at 71 on Metacritic.

The Order is light on content and gameplay. It's not getting lower than expected reviews for being "broken". Most reviews complain about the lack of interaction and lack of replay value. These things magnify the fact it has no online play.

I'm not really sure how you can compare these reviews. You are focusing on a single aspect of one and comparing it to another. You need to look at each release in it's entirety.

XabiDaChosenOne3338d ago (Edited 3338d ago )

@death
'One of the criteria reviews look at is value. Halo 1-4 scored 97,95,94,and 87 on Metacritic."

These games can be found for chump change and two of those games are over ten years old with the Third one getting close to that.

Not to mention the remaster was not done very well, the frame rate on Halo Anniversary was horrible and not to mention its a game that was made on the original Xbox -_-...

http://www.eurogamer.net/ar...

Fact is that the examples that Nirvana31591 used were spot on these games were reviewed broken and they were given a pass.

krypt19833338d ago

what you guys don't realize is it doesn't matter if you like the reviews or not they matter and they matter to the developer and the publisher that's why almost every contract for a game there is said bonus if the game has a great avg of review scores sadly but true...

MysticStrummer3338d ago

@Death - "One of the criteria reviews look at is value."

Just like the rest of a typical modern review, any estimate of value applies only to the reviewer. The customer decides the value for themselves, unless they're very weak minded.

"You are comparing that to a game with between 3-5 hours of actual game play and 2 hours of cut scenes and no online play."

I'd love to see your personal notes for when you played the game and came up with those estimates, but personally I look at most multiplayer modes and think "Oh yeah, all this again with different graphics and sound effects". That's not value to me, and with a few exceptions I usually spend very little time playing it. Just my opinion, but that's the point.

MasterCornholio3338d ago (Edited 3338d ago )

@Death

My only opinion on this is if Driveclub had a lower score due to a faulty online component the same should happen to any game with similar issues. That includes the MCC collection. Its only fair to do that.

"'One of the criteria reviews look at is value. Halo 1-4 scored 97,95,94,and 87 on Metacritic.""

Standards have risen since then. If GTA3 were to release today I wouldn't expect the same scores that it had at launch. GTAV proves how much the standards for openworld games have increased since the release of GTA3.

HammadTheBeast3338d ago

I think 7, 8 is a fair score. I'd give it 6.5 myself cause it was so short, even a bad MP mode would've been fine.

rdgneoz33338d ago

7 to a 7.5 myself. No problems with the game play or any bugs, just wished the game had another hour of two of the story (and polished some of the story towards the end). Sure they'll probably do a sequel, but they could have wrapped it up a bit better. Really wished I could have killed a certain person in particular that I was inches from at one point. The final boss was basically a side character.

_-EDMIX-_3338d ago

just no. I just don't feel ok with force feeding a MP mode...just because.

The concept of the game isn't that. Heavy Rain, Walking Dead etc don't have MP modes...should they?

The main focus of the game isn't that.

When folks are talking about the combat about the Order , they tend to have this idea that Ready At Dawn just did their very BEST to make the combat DEEP....

No.

They didn't, thats because that ISN'T what The Order is about, not even slightly.

Because its "part" of the order, they will make it so, but no reason to make this deep crafting system, deep level up system etc when that isn't the main focus of the game.

Did you have that in Myst? Heavy Rain? The Walking Dead?

......yet those are all great games....those are all great adventure, immerse games.

I think many just need to know the difference and stop acting as if The Order was ever marketed to be this deep, combat focused game.

They didn't fail at created a complex game, their focus clearly wasn't that because its no created to actually be that.

ie It wasn't just some mistake that Heavy Rain and The Walking Dead had limited controls....its not the point of the game, not even close.

Thats like picking up GT5 and saying "wheres the NoS button bro?"

Rate the game based on what its offering, not based on what you want it to offer...

The Order in no way shape or form was trying to be Bioshock.

BlackTar1873338d ago

I can't believe you said you would raise the score if they added "BAD" MP mode.

That is such a bad thing to say and it's the exact reason why this line of thinking is bad.

360ICE3338d ago

Not to be a downer, but Famitsu does give pretty much anything 7+. You have games that get 9/9/10/8, but when they reach our shores they land on 50 on metacritic.

That being said, I apparently liked the game more than any of them. It's worth trying out for sure!

solid_snake36563338d ago

Honestly I'm loving the order 1886. Yea it's not perfect, but it's actually one of the better games I've played this gen.

SheenuTheLegend3338d ago

The game is damn awesome. the only complaint i have is the short campaign. I m missing this game already.
And oh man the graphics. This definitely needs a sequel and i know they will do much better even then this.

The Wii U episode is really cool. Gamepad interaction is so nice

higgins783338d ago

Where or when (or both) will Dragon Quest X for the Wii/Wii U be getting released here in the U.K?

greenmiker3338d ago (Edited 3338d ago )

Not bad 30/40 for Order 1886 by Famitsu.

On the other hand, 35/40 for Dragon Quest Heroes is awesome. I can't wait to see the game on Europe.

Hanso3338d ago

Isnt the game Japan only?

For now yes but who knows

The Order: 1886 pushed visuals hard in 2015 - And still looks stunning today

Digital Foundry : Released in February 2015, The Order: 1886 was a stunning PlayStation 4 game at the cutting-edge of rendering technology, with visuals that still hold up today. The game's release pre-dated in-depth Digital Foundry coverage, something we're looking to address with this new video! Ready at Dawn's game never received a sequel and never received a PS4 Pro upgrade, but thanks to developments with exploited, older firmware PS5 consoles, we can now show you the game running locked at 60 frames per second.

The gameplay was bland and extremely frustrating at times with unnecessary QTE combat at points. But the world and the lore and the characters and the story were fantastic. I’ve always wanted a sequel. I still hope Sony will surprise us one day.

shadowT250d ago

Sony missed the opportunity to acquire Ready at Dawn Studios.

Tacoboto250d ago

But... Sony didn't want Ready at Dawn. Clearly

mkis007249d ago

I'm guessing had 1886 turned out more positively they would have.

RaidenBlack250d ago

And let's not forget,
Ready At Dawn showcased The Order 1886 running on PC at 60fps at SIGGRAPH 2015
https://www.dsogaming.com/n...

isarai250d ago

I still stand by my theory that this game just released at the wrong time. Almost every outlet spent a lot of time in their reviews ragging on the game for not being an online experience, everyone was in the Destiny hype train and at the time they wanted EVERY game to follow suit, bashing any game that didn't. If this were released after everyone realized how much that wasn't future, people would've appreciated it more. I loved it, and I'm always disappointed that we'll never get a sequel

Tacoboto250d ago

That doesn't seem to be true about outlets complaining on the lack of online. The review summaries on Metacritic are very consistent: Amazing graphics, but shallow gameplay and a very short length with little reason to return.

Here's an example of how *little* time IGN spent talking about multiplayer:

"With no multiplayer, and no reason to revisit the short and stunted single-player campaign once it’s been completed, there just isn’t a lot to it."

It's the final sentence. They don't even take the time to say "online multiplayer"

MrChow666250d ago (Edited 250d ago )

"Amazing graphics, but shallow gameplay and a very short length with little reason to return."
You are right, that's what everbody was saying at the time, never heard anything about it not being online.
I've been thinking about trying this game for years, I may get it now that it's dirt cheap, no big loss if it sucks

MrChow666250d ago

Oh, add to that bad enemy AI, I remember that from the reviews, I saw a video of a wherewolf boss fight with a very weak AI

thorstein250d ago

And there we glowing reviews for shorter games. It was one of the times where hating this game was "cool."

CrimsonWing69250d ago

Can you show me the reviews that rag on it for not having an online experience?

I’m not doubting you or anything. I’m just being lazy.

isarai250d ago

Sorry, not multiplayer, open world is what I meant.

Tacoboto250d ago

That's also fake news, isarai. Again, the game was consistently criticized for what it was (Pretty but extremely short, extremely linear, hand-holding, no replayability), not for what it wasn't (multiplayer/open-world)

isarai250d ago

Nope, every review uses the term "linear" several times as if it's some inherently bad attribute. Not fake news at all. Since then there's veen plenty of short and sweet single player linear games that get lots of praise, again after the reality of everything being open world set it and it wasn't as great as everyone thought. But at the launch of the last gen everyone had open world fever, and especially the first couple years "linear" was a con in many games reviewed

Tacoboto250d ago

That's your own contortion assuming criticism of its extremely linear design is suddenly a call for it to have been open world.

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 250d ago
zumlauf14250d ago

You totally made up a claim regarding an overall review consensus that isn't true. And, instead of just ignoring being called out for it, you respond with "oh actually i ment to say OPEN WORLD". Which literally isn't true either. You can't show us one review that bashed the game for "not being open world". And, somehow the other guy is getting downvoted. Over a bullshit liar.

isarai250d ago

Games were being criticized at that time for any game that wasn't open world or online. So yeah I got one mixed for the other, doesn't change my argument one bit that it would've been received better if it released later. People are agreeing because if you were not riding the "online and open world" hype train at that time, it was blatantly obvious there were biases in play for how games were criticized. Now after all that has happened since people want to say "oh wait these games were actually pretty good" cause they know better now

Rude-ro250d ago

The gameplay was very shallow and when one says repetitive, it is by the very definition for some fights. As in, completely identical but different setting.

The game has amazing potential.
The graphics, the lore, characters…
This could most definitely have been all corrected with a sequel and became a franchise hit…
Still would love to see an attempt.

Ie fantastic premise and moments that shine…
But it had its downfalls that deserved the negative marks.

thorstein250d ago

It was the "game to hate" when it launched. And right here, on this site, we saw people posting stories that were outright fabrications about the game. It was weird. The game launched, it was fun, a really cool game but the hate was too much. And so were the lies.

Minute Man 721250d ago

It was just too short....but I loved every minute of it....double dipped and grabbed the ultimate CE

babadivad249d ago

That isn't true. I remember people talking about how incredibly short it was and the somewhat janky gunplay.

KwietStorm_BLM249d ago

First I'm hearing of this. I don't know what multiplayer has to do with anything. The game was just dull. Amazing graphics, great narrative, great lore, boring gameplay sprinkled in pieces between cutscenes, and lackluster AI and controls.

+ Show (5) more repliesLast reply 249d ago

Thank you for the ok. I needed that.

RaidenBlack250d ago

Games like Ubisoft open worlds not enjoyable lengthy games like Elden Ring or Baldur's Gate III

PlayStation Plus Game Catalog lineup for October: GTA: Vice City, Dragon Quest XI, and more

"A bumper crop of PlayStation titles make up October’s PlayStation Plus Game Catalog lineup. All these games will be available to play starting Tuesday, October 18. Without further ado, let’s dive in. Also added this month: The Medium, Dragon Quest Builders, Dragon Quest Heroes and more. "

nevin1551d ago

Wait, no new PS1, PS2 or PSP additions?

CrimsonWing69551d ago

It’s frustrating how they barely update that library. I get that Jimbo hates old games, but c’mon, the classic catalogue with trophies was a big draw for me. Was really hoping to get some heavy duty classic PS1 games to platinum. Looks like they’ll do exactly what they did on PS4 with the PS2 library…

LucasRuinedChildhood551d ago (Edited 551d ago )

Games like Resistance: Retribution have already been rated as well so they have some stuff ready.

I think they still don't have a healthy supply of classic games for the next few months and they have to really spread them out ... so because of all those Yakuza remasters on Premium this month ... they made the decision to hold off putting up more PSP or PS1 games until next month. :(

They need clearer communication on this. They could have said that we can look forward to some PSP games next month or something.

FinalFantasyFanatic550d ago

I'm so glad I stuck with the essential tier, I'd be ticked paying more with the expectation that the classic catalogue would be regularly updated and built up. The classic catalogue was the biggest draw of the upper tiers for me, so not seeing any new PS1 games is pretty disappointing.

Ben Dover551d ago

While the VC remake is a turd, this is an impressive month.

SlothLordPootus551d ago

Has vice city been fixed? If not it feels like a weird addition. Lots for Dragon Quests fans.

jeromeface551d ago

fixed? Its kinda hard to fix something that was a mobile port to begin with... so no

cluclap551d ago

It wasn't a mobile port though? The team that made them did the mobile games but if I remember the actual remakes aren't the mobile versions.

andy85551d ago

Playing it at the moment. It actually looks pretty clean. I'm on PS5 though, can't comment for other versions. I guess the updates helped a bit

VersusDMC551d ago

If you like assassins creed and Dragon Quest enjoy the multiple games.

Just plan on playing Medium and the Yakuza remasters right now.

EvertonFC551d ago

"inside" indie game looks interesting for sure too

SlothLordPootus551d ago

Inside is great. If youve played limbo it's very similar

dazzysima551d ago

Seems the PS Plus offer is running out of steam already.

Have they even added any new trials since launch?

rob-GP551d ago

Yes, loads - they just stupidly havn't updated the list on the console!

I can't recall of the top of my head but there's been a bunch of games, probably about 10 or so. I'm gonna drop Shu another email and try and get him to tell the UX team to update the list. It's annoying when they don't update things

VersusDMC551d ago

I checked out the soulstice trial recently. And i heard they added dying light 2 so i might check that one out as well.

MrNinosan551d ago

Running out of steam? This month is amazing, and the months before it has been great aswell.
At least 3 of the Dragon Quest games are great, Medium is okay, Assassins Creed is nice gems for those who missed put, Inside amazing, Castlevania superb, the Yakuza remakes are fantastic.

Lots of Trials has been added simce launch.
If you don't use the service or are interested enough to first check what's there, why comment?

The Curious Case of The Order: 1886 - A Retrospective

Ready At Dawn cut their teeth developing spin-offs for PlayStation Portable and porting games to consoles. When they got a chance to establish their own with The Order: 1886, its poor critical reception ostensibly halted their trajectory. Can one middling game really sully one’s reputation in the eyes of Sony?

Wanted a sequel for this game so much. It was left wide open for one with the ending it had.

porkChop716d ago

Sony did file a new trademark a while back, so you never know. Though if I were to guess it would be a reboot rather than a sequel.

REDGUM716d ago

The Order was great from my playthrough and really enjoyed it. The same with Days Gone. Both, amongst others out there, deserve a follow-up. Anyone who actually played through the complete games knows there were hidden gems in and around these 2 games. Too many out there put too much faith in reviewer's opinions instead of thier own and get put off or join the hate bandwagon.
Seriously, gamers need to game & not read or view other people game with added opinions thrown in.
Honestly, if you haven't played either of these 2 games yet, do yourself a favour, pick it or them up, forget anything you know about them & just play it for yourself & create you're own opinions.

Ninver715d ago

I ignored the reviews and went straight to the store to but the game. Thoroughly enjoyed it I might add. If only Sony had the balls to summon enough faith to reboot or give us a sequel. Maybe even a prequel done right and make it a 3 part series. Wasted opportunity for a really different exclusive if you ask me.

barom715d ago

Days Gone is really an exceptional game though it feels like it took a bit of time for it to get interesting.

The Order 1886 was unfortunately not very good. Super beautiful game with beautiful cinematics but felt incomplete and don't really remember much happening at all in the game i.e. it was kind of bland. A sequel where they learned from their mistakes would be very intriguing though and I would have bought it.

monkey602715d ago

I loved Days Gone and I would have loved a sequel.

I didnt like The Order. There was enough there for me to give a sequel a chance if they improved on bits but I'm losing no sleep over the absence of it. I thought the 1st one was genuinely terrible for a multitude of valid reasons.

S2Killinit716d ago

I really enjoyed it. I was hoping for a game in the same world but less linear. With lots of that sweet lore.

YoungKingDoran716d ago

Yeah with the tech sorted and expanding on the existing assets, they could/should have been able to do a trilogy that gen. What happened..

moriarty1889715d ago

Agreed. Such an interesting title just abandoned. Makes no sense. As I said the ending of the game sets up for a sequel perfectly.

porkChop716d ago

Incredible graphics and presentation. Great use of photo mode. A really interesting premise. The actual gunplay felt solid. The game just needed to be longer, and the levels could have been a bit less constrained. More enemy variety as well. At full price it just didn't have the value, at least in my opinion.

I would like to see a sequel or reboot, which I think is more likely. It would need to be a new dev as Ready at Dawn are part of Oculus now

robtion716d ago

I think Bluepoint could do a good job. They have the technical capability if Demon's Souls is anything to go by.

MeatyUrologist716d ago

Agreed. Because of all the bad reviews I waited until the end of last gen to buy it, but was really surprised. The only knocks against it were length and linearity. Really loved the visuals, atmosphere, story, and characters. The gunplay was actually really well done with unique and fun weapons.

You mentioned the photo mode, and this was one of the best examples I have seen. They actually allow you to add filters and modify the visuals in the photo mode, and then apply those to the game. I have never seen that before or since. I really wish more games would allow this. Give the users more control over how the game looks to cater it to their tastes.

uth11716d ago

This was a weird one in that the community hated the game but also demanded a sequel

SonyStyled716d ago

Because it’s literally a 5 hr game, yet had the same quality offering of the other AAA Sony games that are tens to hundreds of hours of gameplay.

I used a walkthrough trophy guide for the platinum to not miss any collectibles in one run, it took 8hrs. I thought it was actually a pretty great game, but always wonder why that level of game development didn’t continue for a 15hr single player campaign.

robtion716d ago

I'm part of the community and I loved it.

I think a lot of the hate was from people who didn't even play it jumping on the bandwagon. Clearly there was the usual hate from xbox fans but also from insecure PC players as the graphics were (still are) phenomenal.
The game is a flawed gem. A new entry on PS5 would have great potential (doubt it will happen though, Sony isn't into risk taking these days).

Eidolon716d ago

All the early hate was a people who haven't played it and were quick to call it a QTE game.

AuraAbjure716d ago

I'm an Xbox fan and I'm planning on getting a PS4 pro one day to play this game along with gravity Rush 2 and others.

coolbeans715d ago

-"I think a lot of the hate was from people who didn't even play it jumping on the bandwagon."

Can we please stop retreating back such tired defenses? It's had a heavily mixed reception ever since critics PLAYED the game back then, and justifiably so. Even trying to rope in "insecure PC players" just shows how shallow this view actually is.
