David Jaffe Is Right about Destiny Complainers but Fans Still Deserve More

Recently, God of War and Twisted Metal creator David Jaffe, had some pretty scalding things to say about those complaining about being bored with Destiny. While he's right on about a lot of points, what about Destiny's future? There's no way Bungie can keep doing what their doing and expect the franchise to stay popular for the 10 years they are aiming for.

no hes not right, but the game did not live up to the hype.

OrangePowerz1008d ago (Edited 1008d ago )

Why is he not right? If someone plays over a hundred hours and enjoys the game it must jave lived up to the expectations of the person. It lived up to my expectations and I still play it here and there.

I think a lot of people had unrealistic expectations not based on anything Bungie said.

Unity didn't live up to my expectations and the result is that I played until chapter 3 or 4 and stopped.

You're forgetting all the pregame hype, straight from the mouths of bungie, as well as the many cut areas which you can see are playable in gameplay demos. There's just too much to not see the potential this game had that was thrown away. I enjoy destiny, but it didn't live up to expectations in terms of depth, not length, which is has plenty of.

He is right. People were complaining about "only" getting 6 months/100+ hours out of a $60 game.

People can complain that it was supposed to be like an MMO that would last them forever, but we've known since before release that sequels were coming and the game didn't have a subscription.

KingOfOldSkool1008d ago (Edited 1008d ago )

Eh, well, 6 months/100+ hours out of a $60 game + a $20 expansion to be completely fair.

I agree that anyone buying into the game should have been more than aware of the limitations of an MMO without a subscription, but I think it's more than fair for them to complain about what they couldn't have know beforehand. I'm not going to sit here and say the game's problems are something worth complaining on and on about it, but Bungie's questionable design choices have rightfully opened them up to some criticism.

No expected the game to last them forever, but they did expect the game to have better variation and depth outside of the raids.

100+ hours, here's the math:

5 hours of near storyless campaign x 20 playthroughs just to level up and wait to spend more money to do it over again = over-hyped, under-delivered, mediocre game

Bungie's trailers wer all seemingly story driven. Interviews about aliens wiping out humanity, a mysterious protector of humanity blah blah blah. It was all hype.

Some enjoyed it, I feel ripped off.

Tbh I haven't played it haven't read what he said or this article, but from what you said not living up to the hype its all on you. Should of never hyped it to begin with same for every game.

Games are all different, If you dont like Destiny then move on. Why people choose to complain about what a game is not I have no clue. Take it for what it is or STFU. I played the Destiny beta and did not get the Vibe that it was a game I wanted to get into so I did this simple thing called not buying it and it works great. I have had a ton of games to play since Destinys release and do not regret not getting destiny.

If you are unhappy with a lot of aspects of Destiny then stop playing it, no one but yourself is making you play the game.

Mykky1008d ago

"Take it for what it is or STFU." If everyone thought like that we would not have come far. Either you like it or not, criticism is what made EA and now Square Enix to turn away from their doom. If STFU about EA's bullshit because we did not have to but their games beloved franchises would be totally ruined. So I don't see why we have to STFU about Destiny.

BillytheBarbarian1008d ago

I don't see anyone on destiny anymore. People have moved on.

Battlefieldlover1008d ago

Lol, sure buddy. I have my fair share of grips with the game, mainly the lackluster story or I guess presentation of said story. But no one is playing? People have moved on? Ya...sure. My 3 32's and 47 strong clan have something to say about your comment. Also a quick jump over to LFG will leave you with egg on your face.

OT: I think Jaffe is right...I also think that this game could have been better. Destiny has issues that should be pointed out so that hopefully Destiny 2 can be a better game. I love playing Destiny but honestly 90% of the fun comes from playing with friends that I've made from all over the world...don't really know if that's a bad thing, lol. I'll just through this out there, you guys from London are a blast to bullshit with :D

CorndogBurglar1008d ago

You have to own it and log in to see people. Thats the problem.

The tower is ALWAYS full, and there are always people running around on planets to take part in public events. ALWAYS.

but nice try, i suppose.

n4rc1008d ago

Only read the first part.. But I totally agree with him..

I'm sick of seeing it too... You go to the forums and see people bitching about how garbage the game is, yet they've played it for 100-200+ hours.. Its like wtf more do you want?

I've also said destiny is my goty.. Its hardly perfect and its probably a 7/10 at face value... But it triples my next game in terms of time spent.

KingOfOldSkool1008d ago (Edited 1008d ago )

I'm pretty sure it triples the next game in terms of garbage time as well though.

Now don't get me wrong, I agree with you that the game is more than fine despite its flaws, but the amount of time the game demands to accomplish much of anything doesn't somehow make it beyond reproach. It's not worth excessively complaining about it, but it's not really worth too much effort defending a shallow game with an ensuing mountain of DLC either.
