It had to Start Somewhere: the Final Fantasy series

The Gamer Headlines wrote: When the JRPG genre comes to mind, its hard to not at least bring mention to the Final Fantasy series.

While nowadays the name Final Fantasy may seem a little redundant because 14 main series Final Fantasy games have been released and countless spin-offs, back in 1987 the name Final Fantasy was pretty dead on.

Square was financially speaking on its last legs after releasing a series of flops including the fake RPG Kings Knight, when Dragon Quest was released to great popularity in Japan.

Did you mean to say King's Knight? King's Quest is by Sierra.

"For starters in the village of Elfheim players could find a gravestone that read “Here lies Link”."

That was in the remakes. In the original, it was "Here lies Erdrick". But, since Square and Enix merged, they had to find a new rival to kill off.

"These re-releases would fix a lot of the games bugs as well as introduce features that were in later games such as MP, Phoenix Downs and a character called Cid."

Where is there a Cid in an FF1 remake? I'm drawing a blank...

In the Final Fantasy 1 remake a man in the village of Lufenian tells the player that a person called Cid was the creator of that games Airship.
