This morning SOE announced on their forums and social media that they’ve been sold to an investment firm and are no longer under the Sony umbrella. This isn’t the first time a big change has happened to SOE, but it’s by far the biggest.
Daybreak Games announces its strategic investment to acquire Cold Iron Studios, developer of PC and console game based in the Alien universe.
It could be good if done right. I would think this should be easy as there is a ton of source material.
Sony wouldn't have let Daybreak go if they felt the studio was going in the right direction and supplying games that would sell.
Also, I have never seen a game taken over by another studio mid-way through development become successful.
I am dubious as to the quality this game will deliver!
So, lemme get this straight: you know what the fans want, you've heard the outcries, and you decide to do this?
Alien Isolation worked so well, because it fits the alien horror theme on the other hand when you have group of marines, the real alien atmosphere disapears. Shooter will be a lot harder to make it right, after last try (colonial marines) i dont give it much chance... But if the game would be something like multiplayer only: humanVsAlienVsPredator teams asymetrical, gear/gene progression, procedural map generation - this could work for me.
Robert Mueller’s investigation of U.S. President Donald Trump has taken all sorts of strange turns over the past year and a half, but this might be one of the strangest: It turns out that Trump’s lawyer has a circuitous connection to the video game company behind games like H1Z1 and Everquest.
H1Z1 is Russian propaganda that tipped the scales in the 2016 election? Oh it didn’t? Who cares.
Trumpers will continue to scream no collusion, while new tides between trump and Russia keep being uncovered.
Oh I forgot Russia gooood, Fbi baaad /s.
Lmao the leftist keep on spreading the propaganda to any and every media component owned by them...I look to kotaku or any video game website for accurate unbiased “news”
Everquest players getting banned for using severely discounted CD Keys.
Very interesting article coming from a former Sony Online Entertainment employee.
From the article - " PlayStation fanboys do not want to accept it, but Sony Corp isn’t doing to well outside of the console business. They’re bleeding money. They recently sold off their PC division, and the pressure is on Kaz Hirai to stop the bleeding anyway he can. That’s why there’ve been so many rumors of them selling off the film division…and the recent hack didn’t strengthen Sony’s side in any way.
In recent years, SOE has seen several rounds of layoffs and both of us have seen friends lose their jobs. This isn’t because SOE wasn’t making money, in fact their move toward F2P games has apparently worked out very well for them. But when they’re shackled to a corporation that’s not doing the best…things kind of roll down hill."
" I think it’ll be pretty cool to be able to play a console version of PlanetSide 2 and not have to be stuck on the up and down PSN to do so"
Them is fighting words!
"I think it’ll be pretty cool to be able to play a console version of PlanetSide 2 and not have to be stuck on the up and down PSN to do so."
Why add that? (As if XBL never goes down)
What's the big deal? It's not like they have any games that are game-changers. Besides, it will still be on PS platform as well as Xb. This is all just gunpowder for the MSboys - not that much though.
It's good for Daybreak, not fanboys - Greater revenue from game sales and financial backing from a company who can actually afford it.
