Opinion Piece: Nintendo just doesn’t “get it”, do they?

J.T. Melanson of RGN writes, "I have much to say when it comes to a certain company we all love but also love to hate at the same time, I am referring to Nintendo, the genesis of all modern day gaming. You gotta love Nintendo, they’re a lightning rod for controversy and of course for scorn within the gaming community these days; but they are also known for making some of the best damn games on the face of this planet hands down!"

I guess they could set-up a program, like a Kickstarter for pre-ordering the localization of games. If costs/pre-orders weren't met then an 'unsuccessful' status would give us reason why, and reason not to whine about it.

The article boils down to this basic complaint:
Nintendo doesn't localize enough games.

And I totally agree with that.

There's plenty of games I'd love to see come overseas.

I dunno what sort of initiative it'd take to get Nintendo's butt moving on that front, but if anyone's got any plausible ideas, I'm certainly all ears, myself.

Localizing games is just a drop in the bucket. Nintendo is still hampered with sluggish Wii U sales and 3rd party abandonment.
These localized games are niche games at best. Fatal Frame will not be the savior of the Wii U Im afraid. Bayonetta 2 is a great example. It is a good game (from what Im told) and yet it didnt even move 600k.
Whether its through Nintendo's past choices or not, the only big games at this point are big names: Zelda, Star Fox, Kirby, Yoshi, Mario etc.

I truly hope Xenoblade does well on Wii U and I will gladly support its purchase, even though it isnt a nostalgia title.

Seems to me these fan site gamers are the ones who don't get it.

The common viewpoint I see here is "I want this, and they haven't done it, therefore, Nintendo doesn't get it" as if they can just wave magical wands and everything will turn out fine. The reason games like Fatal Frame haven't been localized is because they won't sell enough. Even Bayonetta 2, the highest rated game of the year AND came with the original for free, even THAT barely scraped by at half a mil. But people don't look at reason or logic or have any understanding that just because a select few want something doesn't mean it's a solid move on behalf of the company.

If a game TRULY had potential to sell and Nintendo were blatantly ignoring it, you can believe XSeed would be all over that. But even Xseed hasn't touched Fatal Frame with a ten foot pole. Wonder why that is? Cause they know just as Nintendo knows it's a bad move, at least right now anyways. Only people who don't seem to get that are the ones who think their every desire should catered to, business sense be damned.

Don't get me wrong, I want some of those games too but Nintendo is actually get pro active in localizing games if they think it can sell.

Third parties abandoned Nintendo, dude.
Not the other way around.
If you want evidence, compare the Wii U to last gen machines, as far as multiplats go.

Last gen: Third parties made a lot of great games, but when they made an occasional bad one that didn't sell, it didn't make them completely give up on development for the PS360.

This gen: Wii U gets a bunch of multiplat games during its first year.
They all sell like crap because they aren't done well enough to deserve higher sales.
First automatic assumption: "We can't make profit here, might as well give up!"

Also, Bay 2 is over 600K by this point, and it's not even at its first year mark.
On an install base that isn't even 1/10th of the PS360.
In a shorter amount of time.

That's not a fail, objectively.

"Nintendo doesn't localize enough games."

I guess localizing Bravely Default was enough

Nintendo has been localizing a lot of games.

Only Fatal Frame V isn't being localized.

Nintendo frustrates me at times, but whenever they come out with a new console I have it pre-ordered every time. No way I can pass up Mario, Zelda, Metroid etc. Been gaming with them since the NES...
