With the news of YouTube support ending, Sony seems to have abandoned its own handheld.
I had the first psp and hated it just not worth it really
Should have got some CFW running on it. Every NES, SNES, and SEGA game in the palm of your hands is awesome. Plus, the PSP had some great tittles as well. From Daxter to Crush, Patapon to Killzone liberation. Lots of good stuff there.
Very true. The PSP really is the best portable device once it is unlocked and CFW is installed. I smile every time I boot it up and see a library of thousands of games from my childhood, all in the palm of my hand. Glorious times we live in!
well, thats the problem isnt it....You could do more with the device if you CFW it, but it came at a price for sony. The Vita is paying for the PSP's sins you can do more with CFW installed, but with it came piracy, and of course people took advantage of it. thats why we cant have nice things.
Can't help but wonder how I got so many disagrees and the person fully agreeing with me got so many agrees. Just one of those N4G community things I guess...
Well that was the Original Psp this is the vita ie doesn't really relate to what they are getting at which is about as stupid as the article the Vita is over because of YouTube, I don't think so somehow I really enjoy my vita after I finally got one last year (far too many great PS+ games being given away at the time to ignore, pretty much paid for the console) but I can honestly say it has nothing to do with YouTube being available and am i upset it's no longer available? Not really don't have the space for it, you can get YouTube on pretty much everythiny nowawdays so nevermind Vita doesn't have a dedicated App for it anymore you can still access it through the browser if need be, I'd rather use it for playing games... Crazy I know.
Wow, you sound like a real ****er.
so much for NGP beating the 3ds lol
Oh man, i remember those days.
To be fair, back then, they were going to be the same price and no one knew Resistance, COD, Silent Hill, etc were going to get f'd up so badly on vita. lol
^This! But PSV is definitely the best portable out there. If it only had more support from developers.
"If it only had more support from developers." http://www.neogaf.com/forum...
fact, the 3DS and the Vita where at $250 dollars at one point. Nintendo had to give up profitability for a while for market share. they knew that a system that was equally priced to their portable that did everything better than their system was going to present a problem. so they cut the price, with it, they gained market share and games that ended up on their platform.
All about the games. Fire emblem, Pokemon, bravely default, kingdom hearts, dk country, legend of zelda, and so, so, so many more. Persona 4 golden alone made vita worth it to me. Other that that almost all the games I use it for are available on other consoles. I admit that I love being able to play classic playstation games (vagrant story, final fantasy) anywhere. But remote play isn't that great from my experience. And i wish they would have just went with SD cards. And quit this back touch screen crap. Ugh. I wish sony or nintendo used the nvidia shield design. I find both consoles to be rather uncomfortable in my hands. I never really carry either one in my pocket anyway, they get thrown in the backpack. If they do a vita 2 it will be for the sake of playstation now and vue.
Hey, the 3DS doesn't have P4G (one of my favorite games of all time). I'm buying the new 3DS, but I'll defend the Vita whenever necessary.
Right cause people just buy a vita to watch YouTube...
They're certainly not buying it for the first party games...
Must be for the load of other games then.
Are you high? http://www.giantbomb.com/pr...
I bought it for Gravity Rush and JRPG and never regret it.
I wouldn't be surprised if this handheld does phase out...
The Vita is awesome! you people need to really try it out. I love my Vita! I play games and use Remote play all the time. But I do hope this is Sony's last handheld.
Really? I hope they make a new one with all the right buttons.
If they do make a new PSP; it shouldn't be a PSP. With the way the hand held market is going, it seems that only Nity with their young demographic will move units. As for Sonys more adult audience, they need something different. The smartphone market is a major competitor against handhelds. Maybe it's time for the Ngage type Mobile device to make a come back? Plus, I'd personally rather everyone at Sony concentrate on making more PS4 content and let the App designers make mobile games.
I like portable games, but mobile games suck. I would hope there would still be a market for a better than mobile portable experience. Perhaps something like an ipad mini with full physical controls that could be used for remote play and PS Now and PS Vue as well as dedicated portable games. At this point they probably could make a tablet that could play PS3 games. If they could put PS3s entire library onto a portable platform it might be fairly attractive. I know I would buy one.
You know, that is what people said about the PSP. "The PSP needs dual analog sticks, if they added that I would buy it." The Vita comes along with two analog sticks and now its "I hope they make a new one with all the right buttons." There most likely won't be another handheld from Sony.
I think a phone with a detachable control casing to clip onto it would be the good way to go. Then it actually focuses on where mobile is going, but serves as an actual portable mobile console. Think the problem is they'd likely have to have a way to have google or WinPhone on there...which would hinder games due to the resources involved, but mobile processors are getting powerful enough to have a nice hypervisor to control them separately. Obviously though, I'd like them to release a regular non-phone version which feels beefier, as well as prevent people from having to buy an overpriced phone. Nowadays, new phones probably cost less to make than a Vita does, yet they cost 2-3 times as much to try and get those contracts. Terrible racket they got going on there IMO.
I have to agree, PSVITA is dead and its really obvious that Sony is not focusing much on this platform to support than PS4. I might get disagrees by this comment, but honestly I'm just telling the truth based on my observation not only in this system but also on the company behind this. They don't give much attention to it anymore.
Its dead for mainstream but will continue to have a niche with the indies n Japanese games they have been selling. I wish they made more triple a games n sequels to the fun games we had on the psp. Pursuit force, motorstorm, god of war, gta, syphon filter, burnout, gran turismo, need for speed should have been on the ps vita. Also should have brought new titles like infamous, driveclub and last of us. Its a shame cuz i really wanted to get one n was just waiting on games that never came.
I have to say this..but I am ashamed of Sony not giving this amazing system any attention..they must be just lazy I suppose. Given up to easily I have to say..if I was working at ( Sony ) I would bring so much to this..I am noticing that these entertainment media on these mostly anything really..they don't have that original spice anymore..it is just repeating itself..on my movies, tv shows.everything..other than that..I don't think I will ever going to sell my Ps Vita..I will keep it to the bitter end. Someone has to send a message to those chumps at Sony..they need to look outside the box...maybe all the stress has gotten them..why are you giving up..what are your issues?
Ha, you're strange.
lol..Why do you think I am strange?
This is the last handheld I buy from them plain n simple.I love it but truth be told I didn't expect for things to go like this not 1 bit.
I agree..I also did not see this coming.
this post and his answer is a good insight in the present of psvita in the west. The people talking about exclusives are generally right when it comes to the overall western market. There's almost no reason most people around here would choose the Vita version of a multiplatform game. Big home TVs are simply the standard outside Japan, and cross-buy with PS3 and PS4 versions is the only way Vita versions make sense to most people. Generally I'm actually in favor of everything being multiplatform. For right now though, a handheld has to have a valuable, unique library. I found the GBA, DS, PSP, and 3DS immensely valuable because their libraries were pretty much entirely unique. Whenever I ask myself what would actually make me get a Vita. answer Basically you don't like handhelds. If you have the chance, so, if the games are multiplatform, you'll rather get them on consoles or PC. Yet you want games to be exclusive to handhelds. You don't want to play on a handheld, but you'd like to be forced to do so. Yes, you're right: that's exactly the western mentality about handhelds, but I'll never get it.
I still wish I could play Patapon in glorious 1080p on my 46inch TV with 7.1 surround sound. *dreams*
I am here to see those Vita fans defending for Vita again, they would never admit defeat until Sony US announce to stop supporting it ,good riddance.Lucky me I own both 3DS and Vita :P
Meh, I don't need to defend it. I enjoy the system, and it has the kind of games I like to play. Even if Sony stopped support, plenty of 3rd party Japanese devs support it, and NIS is a heavy supporter of it, so I'll have content to play it for quite a while I'm sure. Sony, while the 1st party games are sparse, is pushing the Vita too hard as a supplimental device to just drop it. The whole dropping of YT has something else going on behind the scenes, and if I had to guess I'd say it has more to do with Google updating things and Sony not updating things. I don't think it's an indication that they are going to drop the system. The PSTV and Vita seem to be too integrated into their long term PSNow plans. That being said, I would love it if Sony would bring in the big guns for 1st party(and even 3rd party) support for the system. The stuff they've already done is mostly fantastic. For the time being I have Atlus and NISA to make the system worth it for me. And I love my 3DS as well.:)
Waiting for Vita 2.
A buddy of mine wanted one of these so bad. He ended up getting it, but obviously now it's just for Plus games. What a shame. I was thinking about one for awhile too until the support died off.
If the ps+ games pick up again like when I got hold of it then it's defo worth a butchers, console pretty much paid for itself once all the free games come through each month. I got it Oct 2013 that month alone I got Uncharted, Gravity Rush, Katamari and Street Fighter X Tekken all for free in the first month well day one for me, plus the 10 games that came with the console and now another year or so worth of ps+ games that's my £150 made back and not like I couldn't sell it for a good £80. Just look after it get a screen protector jobs a goodun ;) Even if they don't the amazing sales they do and the very cheap prices is another great reason the games barely ever cost more than £5-10 even the big games like tearaway were barely £20 on launch day Killzone was most expensive I saw for £30ish but they soon come down and both great games that make the most of the console not many games on vita that actually try to push the vita and no metal gear vita (a proper one like psp got peace walker) no GTA like psp got both the stories games, gran turismo (yep psp had that also) no God of war again psp had 2! Exclusive versions, apart from Killzone and uncharted which are both great there's some major gaps in the big name sony and close 3rd parties franchise list that just haven't made the jump to Vita and without them it will continue to struggle.
you can applaud Sony for making an attempt, but.. In the handheld space, Nintendo is untouchable. That's not going to change anytime soon. #VitaOwner
I had a vita and ended up selling it and getting a 3ds instead. The games werent a problem for me... My issue was that i got severe hand cramps after just 30 minutes of gaming, i even bought grips for it and that barely helped. Decided its not worth to keep a system that was such a pain to use... Gravity rush was my favorite
Sony needs to do what they do best!!! Make ps4, there psp dead, tvs, phones dead....Sony just don't put there consumers first...they sell you all there crap then they don't support it,.. Only reason they support ps4 is cause of its selling so well...they did not support PS3 as good as they have ps4 already.....
It has so much potential, too bad man. I might hang onto mine though. I have a strange feeling it just might become quite the rarity one day. At least some of the games!
If only Sony wouldn't had been so naive on not securing a deal with Capcom's Monster Hunter for the vita, I believe thats what killed the vita. But apparently Capcom's exclusive deal with nintendo for monster hunter is finished this year, anyone knows about this?
I love my Vita. I own all systems and I play it the most. But it does sound like Sony is abandoning it. They haven't announced a single first party game and there still isn't a content manager on PS4.
So pissed about this, either sony needs to say they were just joking and bring back support for this console, or release a completely new handheld really soon, or i honestly think i may drive to Sony Hq and throw my vita threw a window there with a picture of my ass attached to it.
Not dead yet, It has good games, Gravity 2, Mighty No.9 and Resident Evil is coming, so many good Asian titles are also coming
Having YouTube removed doesn't prove that It's dead
Wow i never know that people bought Vita mainly for youtube apps :o
Vita + memory card + Plus and you're set. I haven't bought a Vita game for over a year now, yet have a huge backlog of Ps Plus games for it. Currently quite enjoying SF Vs Tekken. Actually quite playable on the vita, despite a fairly complex system.
Mine's still brimming with life. I keep an open mind so I don't go in with the "Vita is dead" mindset when Japanese devs are supporting it.
Called customer service about my vita not being able to see the video game content on my ps3. I couldnt get any help the supervisors pull shit out of their ass about every problem. It was such a bad experience that I think I hate sony now. I dare you guys to try to download crash bandicoot on your vita. The supervisor told me the vita couldnt handle the code wtf
It's nearly been a year since I bought any games for the vita, I mean it's ridiculous how little support it's getting now, I'm one mad vita owner. I'm gonna get a 3ds at this rate.
Your not more mad than me ive been having my vita since 2012 Sony could care less. The psp has more acces to more games than the vita does. How is that when their both playstations. Is the vita a platstation or not wtf?
