Game Idealist takes a look as to whether or not Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin is worth buying on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
I'm anxiously awaiting this release, and I've beaten both games at least three times each. Not many video games earn that much love from me.
Yep, just like TLOU and GTA5 I want this game in my collection. Shiny new graphics are just a big plus :)
I didnt play dark souls 2 so for me it will be worth the purchase.
Shame there are three souls games in the series.
Not if you already own it on less gen.
Understood. Nonetheless, if a person didn't play the $30 DLC, would enjoy more non-playable characters, likes expanded plot points, would enjoy higher online player counts and would appreciate DirectX 11 quality graphics on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One... That's cumbersome to forcibly ignore.
Well put, I was on the fence about buying it again as I didn't have as much love for it as DS1. But I think you've just persuaded me.
No, because last gen would have more higher player count. An most people that love the game have no problem with getting the dlc.
"No, because last gen would have more higher player count." But it doesn't. Not even on PC. This new version increases the maximum online co-op partners from the original version's 2 to 5 in a single session, totaling 6 online players when it was previously 3. Last gen versions of this game exclude online increases to online co-op partners and graphical upgrades. In addition, this new version's online matching enables all players to match up with people they want, like their friends, regardless of how many playthroughs players have. "An most people that love the game have no problem with getting the dlc." You're right. However this is best for the people who didn't want to pay for DLC. They'll get the most out of this deal on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
It is worth it to me. I had already moved on to the PS4 by the time Dark Souls 2 released, so Scholar of the First Sin will be my first time playing it.
Meh, I would've prefered DS1;)
A sound YES, before even reading this article, in my opinion, and more so if one hasn't played Dark Souls 2 before. Nonetheless, Mr. Lee agrees: "If you skipped out on the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 releases completely and prefer playing games on consoles, then Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin is a absolute must buy on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Otherwise, you will be missing out on one of the best games released in recent years."
Had no idea this was a thing. Never got a chance to play it last gen, may have to now. Then again I'll be picking up Bloodborne...but more great gaming is never a bad thing.
Yes. Altough what I would really like is a remaster of Demon's Souls with the broken archstone as a new stage. Umbasa!
Sure, but not until I'm done with Bloodborne and that will most likely be a good chunk of time.
It is for me. I don't want it to take away from new games there making. But if they put a little side team on remastering dark souls 1 and demons I'd buy that too. And add that demons broken archstone we never got to play would be awesome.
if you've not played it already, it's well worth it. i've already put more hours than anyone should ever put into anything on this game for PS3, so i will likely not be buying it for PS4.
I never played it last gen - so I might look at it since it got a 90+ Meta. Never really loved the 1st one though. But this is only going to sell on Xone. Who will buy this instead of Bloodborn? And who has time to play both. I haven't finished DA or Mordor, and don't think I ever will because I just got back into ESO.
Dark souls 2 has so much reply value, so many different ways you can approach the game. here's a few: shield/sword, double sword, high dexterity, high strength, both dexterity/ strength, mage: intelligence, faith or dark magic base.
If it's 60 fps aswell, it's a must buy. Playing it on pc was night and day compared to consoles.
if you only have a one then yes , if you have a ps4 might as well just get bloodborne
Why limit yourself? They are going to be two very different experiences.
I gambled on Dark Souls 2 getting a PS4 release and decided not to play it on PS3. While I could have played it on my PC I just prefer to game on a console so this has panned out exactly as I had hoped. This will be a day one purchase for me, cannot wait.
With better graphics and ALL the content put together you damn right it is. And if you're a PS4 owner you can get this AND Bloodborne. From Software showing love to PS :)
I may get it again, but the new pc version.
