Face-Off: Saints Row 4: Re-Elected - Gat's out of the bag

"We had mixed feelings about the PS4 version of Saint's Row 4 after taking a look at the game last week. While the boost to 1080p resolution and higher frame-rates clearly provides a better experience than the last-gen versions, highly variable performance meant that the conversion wasn't as solid as it could be, with the existing PC version remaining the best way to play the game. However, we wanted to go in-depth on final code, while also assessing how the developers would tackle the Xbox One version. Would the developers attempt to run with a 60fps update, or instead lock at 30fps to avoid the consistency issues found on the PS4? On top of that, we also wanted to check out the Gat out of Hell standalone expansion."

What an absolute mess of a port. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Can't say it's exactly surprising, though, seeing as the company that ported this (High Voltage) are the same company that handled the ZoE HD port that looked and ran so poorly that another company (Hexa Drive) had to come in and fix it (who then managed to get it to run at 1080p at an almost locked 60fps no less).

Publishers should take better care in who they choose to port their games. This crap is unacceptable.

I know the frame-rate test by Digital Foundry makes the game look bad but it is actually the first game on PS4 that the frame-rate didn't bother me that much when it fluctuated. Infamous Second Son when it fluctuates there is a noticeable stutter which sucks but that's not the case with Saints Row IV, it only makes the recticle feel slower and less smooth but the transition is not that bothersome even though it's slightly annoying if you are really paying attention. But when it's running at 60fps it's really awesome and I'm glad it's not locked to 30fps.

At least it's not as bad as the Sleeping Dogs port which should have definitely ran at 60fps but it's locked to 30fps and lags sometimes which can cause a stutter. Battlefield 4, LittleBigPlanet 3, and Injustice all have lag issues that are very noticeable stutters. So even though these YouTube videos make it look bad, from my experience the transition between high and low framerates is a smooth transition unlike all of these other games that have very experience interrupting frame-rate drops and those developers should get more hate for releasing games that to this day still have bad frame-rates.

Also it seems developers are trying to push graphics more than gameplay these days on PS4 and forget frame-rate has a huge impact on the gameplay. The last gen re-releases have been very low budget ports which has been very disappointing for me since I have bought most of them. The Last of Us is the only PS4 game that's impressed me and somewhat Infamous Second Son too if only it didn't have frame-rate issues. The graphics for Saints Row IV on PS4 are actually pretty pleasing to the eyes except for the anti-aliasing which sucks and the last gen face models/textures.

the fact that ps4 runs better is nonsence

this is a terrible port and should be banned,

Sheed1181d ago

no ported game from last gen should have trouble running on current gen consoles.
