#00001 PS4 20th Anniversary Charity Auction Reaches $85,000 in 24 Hours Among Crazy Prank Bids

Yesterday Sony Computer Entertainment put the ultra-rare #00001 PS4 20th Anniversary Edition up for auction in Japan, promising to donate the proceeds to Save the Children, topped by an equivalent donation of its own.
After 24 hours, the amount has reached 10,022,600 yen, which translated to roughly $85,180.

Unfortunately, though, the auction has been marred by really crazy prank bids.

I think it will reach 20000$ max or something. It would be interesting if someone thought the 85k bid is real and bid higher lol :P

There are actually multiple bids over 10 million yen, and it has been up for quite a while (including one with a very high user rating), so it could be legit since Sony didn't remove it yet.

It's not farfetched, since one sold for 20,000 and it wasn't even the #1.

We'll have to see if it fluctuates back down later today. Hope not, because it's for a good cause.

Um, Who would pay 20000$ for a PS4? It seems a bit too much. I seriously need to put my toaster for auction. I know someone will be interested to buy it. Say Abriael, i get the feeling you might need a toaster. It's only 2000$ nothing much :)

Lol, someone did.

Personally, I fail to understand it, but I never managed to relate with the way collectors' think...

I love to have my game boxes and my consoles nicely lined up, but I play them, I don't leave them sealed hoping that they'll gain value.

Some people have these kind of obsession of collection rare items and never use them like a Beautiful car or something but like you said, it defeats the purpose when you don't use it. Or maybe they will resell them 5 or 10 years later for a million $$ and believe me when i say, someone out there will buy it.

I saw one sold for 1.116 euros in Portugal, also a charity auction.

It seems fair...

I am usually not okay with people flaunting there money is such extravegant ways espically since it functions just like a normal ps4 but damn it is one lovely ps4 and more imporatnly it is all for charity and Sony says they will match the bid as well. It really is showing that there is good in the world.

You're not ok with people deciding how to spend their own money? Ok.

Pancit_Canton1340d ago

How much do you think number 2 is worth.

I got mine but don't know the limited edition number. I don't want to open mine lol

maniacmayhem1340d ago

That is insane. I really wish Sony would have just released this special version online for a while or to retailers as some kind of bundle.
