Blu-Ray Xbox 360 Rumor (Once Again) Denied

Microsoft Entertainment & Devices Division President Robbie Bach told the San Francisco Chronicle that the highly-speculated Blu-ray enhanced Xbox 360 is still nothing more than a high-def dream.

"If you look at the Blu-ray player market, you haven't seen the acceleration everybody expected (since the demise of HD DVD). It's not as much about whether all the content is in a Blu-ray format or a HD DVD format. You have to look at how fundamentally compelling the difference is between a progressive scan DVD player and the picture that it can produce and what you get on a high-definition player. The reality is there is some difference, but most people look at it and say, 'I am not going to pay extra for that.'

There is nothing to even talk about [Blu-ray Xbox 360 plans] right now with regard to the next generation. That is so far out that there isn't anything to talk about."

Right...thats not what my 1080p samsung HDTV is telling me. Then again, i was born with 20/20 vision so i can see clearly. dont know about the guys at microsoft though.

Are people seriously deluded or what. Its not coming. That means not now and NOT TOMORROW AND NOT IN 5 YEARS FROM NOW.

What is so hard to understand about it. This is reality. Fanboys need to accept reality. Just because another fanboy is desperate about 360s survival and makes another Blu Ray rumor, that dont change reality any bit.

THERE IS NO BLU RAY ADD ON NOW OR IN THE FUTURE.

I expect your upscaled DVD's also look good on that TV.

mistertwoturbo3425d ago

Upscaled DVDs do look good. But Blu-Ray (heck even HD-DVD) are for those who want the most clearest, sharpest, and best looking picture available. Especially with bigger TV's. And not to mention uncompressed or True HD 7.1 audio.

Upscaled DVDs still have the problems of artifacts, video noise, and less accurate contrast.

but you are not the other 6,708,083,941 people on planet Earth. What you like doesn't make it appeal to the masses. Or even affordable for the masses.

These were the same guys who said that the HD DVD attachment was a success right? So they were saying, there were people who were paying extra for it. But since they lost, and their $199 product is now a $5 blue light special at K mart, their tune changed. I get it.

Funny how they mention a progressive scan dvd player in their comparison, since they know their xbox absolutely sucks as a dvd player.

Upscaling might be ok for a 32" LCD, but on my calibrated 1080p 50" plasma, upscaled dvd looks nothing like Blu-Ray. It's good enough for my girlfriend, who couldn't tell the difference when I changed her dvd player from composite to component cables, but for someone who is looking for that difference, you know, the actual market segment these things are targeting, there is a difference.

Xbox360 Does not need Blu-Ray...and (proven by sales and attach rate) is doing just fine without it...And with advancements in DVD Technology, their storage capacity should be near equal to Blu-Ray here shortly should Microsoft wish to go that route for future games ...simply put leave the Blu-Ray format for the Movie Buffs...No thank you Sony, I prefer to focus on VIDEO GAMES

DavidMacDougall3425d ago

If xboxs fans dont want this then how come every week there is a post hoping youll get it just for Microsoft to say ...

"We cant get it song would make us there b**** because there own it "

Madgunner3425d ago (Edited 3425d ago )

I did not say Xbox NEEDs BLURAY... but to downright play SONY for having it is stright up jealousy no denying it. How is bluray a bad thing for sony, we are moving into an era of high definition and techonolgy rapidly increasing as we speak.. high def TV's , High def players, more possible chances of adopting more 7.1 media, faster internet ( we hope ), more Gigabyte consumption.. and thats just small examples... sony is just spearheading the techonology that they think will be the future.. and quite frankly i do too... so please stop being an xbot.

mistertwoturbo3425d ago

The Xbox360 as a gaming system may not need blu-ray. However, it's still an advantage for Sony just for having it.

Heck, this whole "blu-ray for xbox360" arguement doesn't seem to be about the actual product blu-ray. Looks to me more like bickering back and forth because Sony just happens to have the advantage.

why would xbox players want bluray ? we play games. If I want to watch films I have a DVD player or will get a blueray one.

Madgunner3425d ago (Edited 3425d ago )

You can be a Nintendo fanboy and ill be a sony fanboy ok... Ready set GO!

You: why would nintendo players want CD-ROM? we play games. If I want to listen to music and other stuff i have a CD player or will get a PC.

Me: Sony is trying to pave way for the future.. i think CD-ROM is a great addition to their system it adds for more storage and dude.. its nice and shiny! i think its kinda cool bro. 5 years later... Playstation 1 pwned you

mistertwoturbo3425d ago

I know I know there not making films for it anymore but it can upscale to 1080p and there is still a good back cataloge of films which is worth getting, but having watched one or two films there is a differnce to a normal DVD but not that much.
