During the Windows 10 Keynote Microsoft announced the Xbox app for Windows 10, which will besically bring the Xbox One social experience to the new operating System.
Voice chat between PC and Xbox is going to be awesome! Constantly want to be in voice chat with my friends on PC while I play some KI
Doesn't it have that already because of Skype though? Edit: Oh, ok. Cool. I haven't used it on XBO yet. I Skype with my Vita while I'm gaming.
You can Skype between PC and X1 but it's awkward if Im also in a party chat on Xbox cause they can't hear who Im talking to so it's nice to be able to bring them into the conversation even if they're not on the console
Why would I want to use the same device? I'm not sure why it matters, honestly. Skype is Skype. I just set the Vita on my lap and talk with a headset to all my other friends. They all usually use their phones. Also, I still don't get it. Can't Skype users just chat with other Skype users, no matter what? Why would they have to be on the Xbox One? Oh! I get it. You guys want to talk to strangers, too. Haha. I'm speaking strictly about chatting with friends. That's why the conversation was going in circles for me. I just assumed Skype was the default chat on Xbox One, anyway. So I thought that's what you party chat through, already.
"Spencer also announced that Windows 10 features will also come to Xbox One, and that Microsoft can’t wait to let us know more about that." Windows 10 features on Xbox as well? Now I really can't wait to hear more.
@Seed I have a question. So does that mean any Indies released will automatically be crossed over to X1 and vice versa? Or I guess PC to X1 cross over.
Im pretty sure it will... whatever you buy on xbox store should be available on xbox app on any Win 10 device... will probably differ from game to game. But say if you buy Ori in the Blind Forest, it should be available to play on your PC, Phone and Tablet too.
It does not. Universal apps are apps that can work on both Xbox and PC but they need to be specifically programmed to do so. However with that being said what they announced is that the tools to make Windows 10 Universal apps is completely open and anyone can do it. Theoretically it is extremely easy to do, so I wouldn't be surprised if indie games released on the Windows App Store but not on Xbox would be a small minority.
I want my [email protected]$#ing check http://n4g.com/user/blogpos...
I had some very similar ideas and I have to say your blog was filled with some great ideas and insights. But to be fair, this streaming and cross-platform play isn't really on the same level of integration as you were talking about in your blog. Maybe with the next Xbox console...
Nice features announced today.
Phil is out here killing it. Best decision MS has ever made.
I don't think we will fully understand how big this is until the apps start rolling out. Depending on how things are handled, this could be monumental in terms of content and features available to XBox One owners. I am also thinking of the possibilities of app development being open to all (which could lead to emulators and homebrew). I am also surprised that no one really picked up on what this means for new games on Xbox One. Developers inclined to only make a game for windows now have the option of releasing on X1 with ease of porting.
Kind of surprised, I thought the odds of this happening were slim. Well now Xbone has remote play and cross play which I hope is optional in shooters. Oh and Spencer is supposedly rocking Battletoad shirt
Haha... yeah, that battletoads shirt was a nice touch. Phil and his shirts lol.
New SOny head is trying to do the same...Did you see him in Playstation experience.
@Spid3r6 No, I didn't watch the psx. But it's cool that they do this stuff.
Will there be a new UI for the Xbox One?
They said Windows 10 is coming to Xbone in some way but no details. This is just what I picked up on IGN live feed.
I wonder how well it will work? Great stuff coming from Microsoft.
Its probably going to be a disappointing announcement for people who thought they'll get x box 1 exclusives and would not have to buy an x box 1 to do that. To be honest this feature is excellent if you own a x box 1 and PC. Crossplay between x box 1 and PC is a feature i am looking forward to. I can play with PC friends now and be on x box 1 or vice versa. The app is cool also i can record game footage if i play a steam game.
That also means more PC exclusives coming to Xbox One..Plus they can also leverage this against making a game on a Sony Console....A scenario like the following... SONY: we have 18 million base you should make the game exclusively for us....Microsoft we have 10 million plus 50 million on PC within the Microsoft Ecosystem thanks to Windows 10.
Sony already has cross platform play and the 18 plus million sold through is nothing to laugh at. Xbox one just matched ps4 in their own capacity. They did remove a reason to go with ps4, but there are still other reasons on the table. If Microsoft makes pc and xbox one cross platform play a sort of normal thing, it would be better than what Sony is currently offering. I have a ps4 and an awesome pc so either way, i can game with both crowds should this bust the door wide open on cross play.
If what you wrote comes to pass, then Sony could certainly miss out on being first with a lot of indie games past, present and future unless they fund them. Eventually it could signal the PS4 being the last Sony console, maybe?
Im bittersweet on the whole streaming X1 games to Pc. Streaming to windows devices is sweet, but the sour is that there is no incentive for any X1 games to transfer to Pc.
Of course there is. Many PC gamers don't own an Xbox One, nor plan to get one, but would gladly buy good games that come to their platform. Streaming doesn't change that. If you already have an Xbox One to stream games to your PC then you would have already been able to play those exclusives on the console itself anyway. Personally, I hope to see continued greater support for PC gaming by Microsoft.
Playin Evolve with PC gamers confirmed?
Evolve is such a damned cash grab. I hope xbox one and pc owners don't buy it.
Hopefully one day soon MS will allow Xbox users to vs PS users along with PC players. If not I guess MS will keep missing out on some titles (Street Fighter, FF14, War Thunder to name a few) I say Street Fighter as well as it just wouldn't even be allowed by MS to be released on Xbox unless the game played on its own servers so they can't vs PS users which would just add cost to do so
This is a very complex issue. I assume that for PC games to work with XB1 games they will have to abide by the rules of XBL. And there in lies the issue. MS owns the PC and XB OS so they can say that Windows and XB games have to be together to work together. They cannot dictate to Sony how to do their online.
No windows on PC is open they cant tell anybody what to do on the PC if Sony wants to they can stream games from the PS4 to Windows 10 ,8,7,Vista,XP if cordilia is a part of the OS then they can use that to.
@Bytor I don't think you get it... First, I doubt every cross platform game will have XBL cross gaming capability. I am positive they will have to certify the game to connect with XBL. Sure, the PC is an open platform, but XBL is not. Therefore, if you want to MP with XBL you will have to follow the rules. I am sure Sony has rules as well, and MP would need to follow those rules otherwise every cross platform game would already be connecting to PSN. Therein, lies the difficulties with PSN and XBL cross platform gaming... PSN has rules and XBL has rules. They aren't the same and I doubt either will bend their rules to accommodate the other.
i'd be much more excited to be able to stream my win 10 games to my xb1 rather than the other way around
Does this also mean that final fantasy: a realm reborn can happen on xb1 now?
Would you NEED an xbox one to stream games to your PC? Or would it be basically be desktop streaming from your xbone to your pc monitor? If thats the case. meh. Wake me when xbone games RUN on windows 10.
"Would you NEED an xbox one to stream games to your PC? Or would it be basically be desktop streaming from your xbone to your pc monitor?" What's the difference between using "an Xbox One to stream games to your PC" and "streaming from your xbone to your PC"? Yeah, you need an Xbox One to stream to a PC. The console exists for a reason.
I think he's asking do you have to own an Xbox One to play Xbox games in your PC, because owning both, with the ability to stream to the other, some would argue is a smaller or specific market.
This is awesome...
"Would you NEED an xbox one to stream games to your PC? " Yes. Thats what they said "Wake me when xbone games RUN on windows 10." Well do us a favour and go back to sleep.because its not happening. Its funny how people say how much they hate xbox yet constantly port beg for halo, forza, gears, and more recently SSO. You guys are hilarious
Pretty excited to hear about what games will be cross-platform. I don't expect PC to get Halo or Forza but other multiplatform games to play cross-platform would be really amazing so I can game with PC friends and Xbox friends without having to purchase a console.
Now you really do have my attention!! The cross-platform play between XBox & PC gamers is awesome. The stream feature is definitely more worth while & something I would actually use it unlike Remote play which again is a great feature but I've never chose to use it due to Vita controls & screen size. Whereas if the missus wants to watch TV I can stream it up to the PC in the bedroom. Well played, I'm definitely interested in picking one up now!
It's difficult for me to understand what this really means. I see this as Xbox's version of Remote Play, but why would you want to stream a game from an Xbox Console onto your PC? You don't get the benefits of playing it directly on the PC or from the XB1 because it's streaming, so why not just play on your console? The cross play thing is something I only see happening for exclusive titles such as Fable Legends, but that would make Xbox One exclusives not exclusives? I say exclusives, because it certaintly won't work for all games in a case like in a game like Battlefield the game has to be built with the aspect of crossplay in mind in order to support this kind of feature otherwise tossing a XB1 user into a BF game with playrs with a game that's optimized for PC users isn't going to work out well, unless the game meets some kind of middle ground or something. This doesn't lock out Sony's ability to cross play games with PC gamers as they've been doing it already, but this at least gives Microsoft an avenue to be able to travel down a similar road, which is cross play between consoles and PC originally everyone was criticizing them for not having one. I get the Windows 10 features part, just not why streaming games from your console to be visible on your PC is a big thing...unless of course somehow the games performance increased, now that would be awesome but as I'm reading now it's just a way to play your game while being away from the console, it's a cool feature to have but I don't see it as something groundbreaking.
I want to stream to my PC because if I want to play games and my wife wants to watch a tv show one of us has to do something else. With streaming to PC, she can watch her shows and I go to another room where my PC is and play my game. I currently stream PC games from my main PC to my laptop as well, streaming can be a really great thing.
Yes I have nothing against remote play or streaming they are good features, but from what I saw in the comments people made it seem like it meant more than being able to remote play from another device. That's where the confusion begins for me. For example hearing Xbox One titles can be played from console with PC Gamers because the games can be streamed on those particular devices didn't make sense to me. I found it odd, but I guess that's what I get for buying into peoples comments without researching for myself. I understand it's just XB1's remote play feature in a nutshell now, which yes is always good to have.
At last i can get better use out of my window 8 laptop
Free upgrade to Win10? I like this...
Game streaming!!!!!! Omygosh that's all I care about. Oh and free upgrades from Win 7 to 10
Streaming is useless because the main argument console gamers have over PC is that "couch gaming" is a better experience"... so why sit at your PC? And cross-platform MP... MS already learnt that average PC gamers smashed the backdoors off of intermediate-pro console gamers when they tried out shadowrun, and Valve with CSGO.
