I'll admit it: I was not crazy about Grim Fandango when it originally launched. The transition to the 3D adventure game was jarring at the time and the game wasn't good enough to compensate.

I'm hoping that the remake is better. At the very least, 3D games won't be a foreign entity to me anymore.

Umm considering its one of the best adventure games ever made not sure what game would have been " good enough to compensate. "

That must have been a personal experience b/c it launched at the end of the adventure game era, so your transition must have been b/c you simply didn't play them b4.

This game was one of the best ever made. I never thought we would see it again. When it was announced, I was so damn excited. Can't wait.

My problem was that I had played most of the LucasArts adventure games up to that time.
Day of the Tentacle, Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2, Curse of Monkey Island, Loom, Sam and Max, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Full Throttle, and The Dig (most of which I still own).

Then when Grim Fandango popped up, it was their first game that was in 3D. For someone used to all those 2D based games, the jump to 3D was strange. It didn't play as smooth as the other games did and the interface was a bit clunky. This wasn't unique to Grim though. Most of the new 3D games at the time were still trying to figure out a decent way to make the controls work well.

I know that a lot of people all seem to think it was amazing, and perhaps it is. I'm saying that I could never get into it when it first released.

Blind preorder but I figured with all of the praise and GOTY awards it won that $15 wasn't too much of a risk. Looking forward to it.

yeah, i pre-ordered it last night.

i have yet to play this game, either, but i'm a fan of double fine/tim schafer, so i have no doubts about this game whatsoever.

If you are a fan, and even if you are not, you won't be disappointed. It was a niche classic just b/c times had changed when it launched, but unless you simply have a fear of skeletons, you will not regret it.
