PS3 to get upscaled DVDs, 1080p/24, SACD

what are you talking about? Xbox 360 doesnt do it? Oh yea Via VGA who the hell uses that for HDTV?

I rather have upscaled dvds via HDMI. You can have your washed out VGA cable.

On top of that it had High Def DVDs out of the box so? Whats your point? Atleast its getting it.

As of now the 360 wont EVER have HDMI quality or even digital for that matter.

Component = Analog
VGA = Analog
HDMI = Digital

Sony shouldn't have had this problem in the first place because they promised this out of the box, but then again, production of a electronics and software never go the way you want them to, so there is always going to be some problems.

Have to give sony some credit for actually attempting to fix the problem though.

Upscales DVD through Component as well. KNOW YOUR FACTS!!! It upscales through all available hook ups. I know, watch the lord of the rings return of the king, believe me you will see a difference.

Hopefully this won't take Sony to long to get out in a update. I for one was hoping they could make it so the PS3 would upscale DVD's so that I would not have to buy a stand alone DVD player that upscales to 1080p as I don't want to replace my existing DVD collection.

good read. I saw something about this earlier in email, but didn't have time to read it. SACD support will help, but I hope that the user-selectable internal YCrCb image processing is REAL. Man, am I tired of having to memorize the category ticks of the XBR while I transfer one of my units from an HDMI enabled Bravia to my smaller component/DV-I equipped WEGA if I'm going on the road. I either have to remember the ticks perfectly (which I nearly have) or hook up to the HDMI LCD first - convert the video and audio output settings and then fire up on another TV in component RGB mode. Why it doesn't automatically detect is beyond me, but this is my biggest gripe with SONY by far. If I kept it on the same TV for months on end, then it wouldn't matter much, but I'm a mobile gamer and its kind of a pain in the arse. The upscaled DVD playback is a nice touch - thanks for the clip.

i would like to know if there are any hdtv that have VGA outs on the market.. sense hdmi is no doubt the most preferred and supported output by the market.. i ask this with all fanboyism aside because i have a nerdy friend.. yes i am a nerd too. He hopes to buy a 360 but doesn't know if he should stick with a pc monitor or search hard for a VGA supported tv.

But shouldn't Sony work on the gaming side instead of the movie side? PS3 is suppose to be for games, but yet they keep concentrating on the movie playback and the online microtransactions.

- Fix the 1080i gaming problem (biggest problem)
- Upscale PS2 games

they just have to fix the things the consumer wants. I had the same problem with the 360. But they eventually fixed the problems. Sony will do the same. Unfortunately they couldn't get it all fixed before they got it out the gate.

as a consumer, I want all of the aspects of the machine to work correctly. I have a TV that is 1080p enabled and it plays 1080p enabled games just fine(I've repeated this countless times before. Ex. NBA2K7 looks just GREAT on my telly; however Resistance looks silky in 720p. And yes, they need to fix the upscaling 4 PS2 games. I would like it for GT4, but it stays hooked via component to my PS2 and looks great in 1080i already; the question is will Shadow of the Colossus be in 720p or stay in that bland 480i?

w/e it is they do next I just want them to do it & keep doin' it. They need to continue to develop this system. This is their new biggest cash cow (the second LCD TV's) and they've got to get it to Jay-Z status. No wait, bigger than Jay-Z status. It's going to take a LOT of work as usual, but the road to China starts with the first step. I just want them to "stay active". Keep adding and adding and adding. If they don't do that. It's over.

Yeah I agree, it is for games. But it's also for other things too. And I suppose that's why they're trying to concentrate on watering the whole garden, not just the red tomatoes if you know what I mean. Honestly, my games work fine. So they don't need to do anything there except make a lot more and fast! =]
Look, we're gamers. But remember we're also music lovers, movie lovers, and 'net lovers too. I use all of these "stupid" features on my PS3(and yes I use the net for the PSstore). So if they keep bringing all of these aspects up to faster and better speed, with more options -- The customers will be happy and that's what matters. Seriously -- I'm glad to see they're being very pro-active about this because quite frankly anything else would infuriate me and cause a REAL backlash from their base. Thank goodness I have had no problems with any of my equipment, but for those that have I'm sure that SNE is working with them to fix, replace, or repair. New technology is always a tricky thing. Whether it's launching a shuttle into space or a highly anticipated piece of electronic hardware (wait isn't that the same thing?) into people's homes, it's a difficult balancing act. You're going to have ups and downs and critics and praisers. It just matters how you position yourself and manuever through the sales jungle. Seeing what this machine continues to evolve into is going to be interesting to say the least. It's going to be quite a ride.

I have been disappointed in both the 360 and the PS3 when they didn't upscale DVDs. It is a good sign that Sony is listening to us.

I'm amazed how much Sony listens to both gamers and the press. Everything from the controller to the HDMI issue. Hopefully these little things will get ironed out quickly.

This is what I would call a "defferentiator feature" in the same way the DVD player in the ps2 was. It is these kind of cool features that really make a system for me. It says "although you have a blu-ray player available we can still keep your dvd collection current and up-to-date.

Hopefully more cool things like this will be added in due course.........
