Infinite Undiscovery's official Japanese site says that the Square Enix 360-exclusive JRPG will come on two DVDs.
It's news because it's very unusual 360 games come on more than one disc.
No, it's news because it only uses 2 discs while the title says infinite.
It's a game that uses cell shading type graphics. This must mean the game is very long in length or they're trying to not exclude those with no HDD in their 360, which the latter is likely... but rotflmao at 2 discs for a cell shaded game though.
It's relevant because of the whole "Blu-Ray is needed for current gen games" argument. But I'm kinda glad that it is on two discs because atleast that means the game will be longer (than Too Human/Mass Effect), but it's also kinda annoying cos the graphics (in the recent gameplay video) aren't great.
But but but but......... DVDs have enough space for current gen games! All kidding aside, I'm not a RPG fan so this doesn't affect me at all. Truthfully, right now that's probably the only genre that will need more than 1 dvd
its not the first game ever to go multi disc, i believe ff7, was more than two...and theirs a very large list, so who cares, its two discs, what, this shocking 2 discs gonna make MS bring blu ray to 360, it would be a big mistake on MS part if they did, if you think about it, devs start making 360 games that use blu ray disc, which means anyone wanting to play the game would have to either go buy another 360 with blu ray, or possibly an add-on blu ray drive, and im sure you all love buying add ons.. in the end, it would be a big slap in the face to all 360 users... this is console gaming, not pc....so when the ps3 gets a game thats 2 discs, whats gonna happen then..
Final Fantasy VII was on the PlayStation not the PlayStation 3, in other words two generation ago.
i never said ff7 was on ps3, i was just giving an example of a game that was multi disc, dunno why people are making a big stink about an 360 game going 2 disc..
"But but but but......... DVDs have enough space for current gen games! All kidding aside, I'm not a RPG fan so this doesn't affect me at all. Truthfully, right now that's probably the only genre that will need more than 1 dvd" Does Forza 3 and MLB 2k8 ring any bells? At the end of the day, its an RPG, so i can take that into consideration
2 Is not that bad.
To me anyways it's the fact that it's guaranteeing linear play making the game design limited. They have two choices make a rich looking game on one disc or tone down everything so it can be on two discs. So far I haven't seen a beautiful looking game that runs on two or more discs. Mass Effect is one disc and so is Bioshock.
and the big deal is?
Who said it was a big deal
Good work Jenzo. Last time i checked i really enjoyed playing Baldur's Gate 2 back in the day on PC. That was on 5 discs i believe and that wasn't a pain in the butt. 2 DVDs is definitely ok.
it beats 4 discs but in a hd world this is sad, going to be the norm, for 360 any way dvd is so last gen
as long as it plays as long as its hd I could care less if its on 5 discs, 1 blu-ray or 1000 VHS tapes! ok I guess I'd care about the VHS tapes.
a 15 minute install or a 10 second disc change? both formats have their drawbacks. the blu-ray is too slow to run straight from the disc without an install and the dvd doesn't have enough space and requires multiple discs for 2 games so far this generation. anyway, who cares. I find it funny that Sony fanboys make a disc change such a big deal. shows us how desperate they are for relevance. I guess they just like to wait: wait while their games install, wait for their PSN firmware updates, wait for their franchise titles, wait for the cows to come home, etc. gives them a lot of time to troll N4G forums.
how is the blu-ray to slow so it needs install, it doesn`t need installs its just easyer for devs...uncharted has no install and thats th best looking console game out so far
It's because 360 fanboys kept saying 'You don't need bluray!!!!' When cleary in this situation you do. No it's not that big of a deal and a 10 second disk change isn't much to cry about, but it's still an annoyance and still shouldn't be happening.
I've heard people throwing that quote "Making a Mountain out of an Ant Hill about PS3 firmware issues. I would like to say the same about Changing Disc and DVD9. Playing MGS4 made me realize how changing a disc 3 times, probably took less than 4 Minutes after 135 hrs I poured into Lost Odyssey and the installs in MGS4...well lets not get into that. Oh yeah I play my Jrpgs, single Pass through and thoroughly.(Too many games and no time to go back) No biggie..as long as the game is great, I have a high tolerance and I'm not that Lazy. Some of the best franchised games and RPG's have not been surpassed and was on Multiple Disc.(Did it matter if the game was tight)
Think about it though Kat .. good to debate with you again. Firmware issues can be resolved. Changing Discs and the limitation with DVD9 can not. I do agree that two discs is no big deal. Even 4 discs are no big deal. Whats the breaking point? 6, 8, 10 discs? When looking at the opposite end of the spectrum, I do agree that HD installations are getting a little out of hand. While I do see the benefit, its become a standard for some of the more high profile games. I hope that future PS3 games do not require such lofty HD requirements. Even that is a work in progress with developers. Can you say the same for space requirements for future games? This is the Xbox 360 achilles heel.
How was your vaca from the dark pits/cespools of n4g? On topic: Well only time will tell if games really get up to 5-10 DVDs. I think that would be a little of an exaggeration with 10 DVD's though. We are totally neglecting "compression technologies/techniques". What is it, are we really talking about here. (Hrs put into a game) (Hrs it takes to complete) (Amount of content stored on the disc as opposed to one disc) (Types of games that may require multiple disk) -Lost Odyssey was around 80Hrs to complete with every things and such though I put much more into it, since I really like disk(4-disc game) -Oblivion was a game you could put 100+ Hrs into and that was on 1 disk and the world was Huge(if you ask me). 1. Basically because a game is on the competition BD disc doesn't mean the Game will be any longer. Given them Examples. 2. Yeah you can store more content on bigger disk such as a BD but depending on the type of game, it will bear no difference in time played or length of game.(I have not seen it) 3. To tell you the truth, I think HD installs are going to be the trend. I do not think it is going to go away. The benefits out weight the extra work the devs could do to alleviate the installs all together or at least cut them down. It's a fact Storing texures and such on the HDD reaps benefits. (Take it from the PC-Model, it's noting new) 4. Can't you see that's the direction consoles are going, they are becoming like computers and accepting the same models. Just not scalable when a new GPU comes out..etc..lol 5. As for the Xbox 360 well, I ws reading somewhere that some game might require an install.(not sure if it was true), but it's wait to be seen with the HD-less 360 out there and what MS does with the production of it's games.(after all none of this effects me) 6. but the "space requirements for future games" could be 3-5 years from now. In 3 years the 360 will be like 7 years old. Sony plays to it's hardware lasting 10 years bu tMS plays to the latest technology every 5-7 years. By that time you think we will not see a new Xbox 360 with 100GB Optical disc and 500GB HDD ?
NOOOOOO! Im gonna have to get up and changea disc instead of waiting 15 mins for a 4gig install or waiting 2-4 mins for an act/level to load ala Mgs4. I think some Ps3 fans really want anything to justify chooisng a Ps3 over a 360 or reasons to not get a 360. Rrod is still brought up time and time again as well as dreaded mutli disc games. I have had my 360 for a 1 1/2 years and no problems to date and with the 3 year warranty/new mother boards/chips this since late last year this is a thing of the past. As for the disc space i have still not seen gaming wise why Br is needed or in fact better for games. The read times are just to slow to really push the advantage of having more capacity. Bigger disc size but less space on your hard drive due to installs or more waiting around for levels to load on to the Ps3 ram. But i guess a fighting game/driving game may come out that shows us why Br is an advantage ie one disc necessary for these type of games. But so far although Gtp looks great the lack of crash damage and inability to run smoothly online not to mention barren enviroments(except london which can not be raced online) has not made a believer yet. Both consoles this year are desirable but this is how i see it when cp the media used for each.
Disk size is only a problem with FMV which is why only RPG's have been multi disk games so far as it's hard to compress effectively. If you go and watch the fable 2 docs one of them states that there compression technique they use compresses the raw data down to less than 1% of it's original size this has several advantages over disk size 1 the data streams from the disk 100x faster 2 the game world can be 100x more detailed 3 you can probably fit about 500gig on a dvd9
You've been added to my bubbles forever list.
Good post dude. I think the only people that multiple discs will bother are lazy people.
M$ was stupid. They should have removed the DVD drive and put a floppy disc. Cause you know, XB2 fans dont mind the fun disc swapping exercise. Its almost like WiiFit for them
I rented Lost Odyssey and it was just too boring for me. Looking foward to trying out this game though.
Glad to be a Gamer Another "I'm not biased but deep down in my soul I hate sony" guy.
This is what happens when it isn't on PS3. GOD KNOWS how much content got cut!
Seriously...get off you fat @ss an put in disc 2. I'm sure it's bloated with lots of CGI, instead of In-Game Engine motions, which would solve the issue. Fat Lemmings, Do Some WiiXercises.
GUYS WHAT BETTER A 10 MIN INSTALL OR A 2 SEC DISC SWAP YES THIS IS LIVING HAHAHA
Instal on PS3 are the XBOX 2's fault , if the games wernt heldback from what that can be on BLU-RAY thx to inferior DVD9 there WOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM. face it, Blu-ray is the Future for Movies and Games.
It seems you like to follow me around, kind of like a little child, looking up to her Big Daddy. What you said does not even make sense. In-Game Engine Models can be used to illustrate a storyline in a game, and would use ALOT less disk space. CGI looks great, and if they want to use multiple disks, I have no problem with that. Anyway, I really shouldn't be speaking with minors, so I'm going to have end this conversation now. Maybe when/if you mature you will be able to comprehend what I said.
Blu-ray the future of games lol, blu ray has nothing to do with games unless less gameplay with more cinematics. PAIN go back to your emo music and pink hair.
Rims, although fanboyish in his comment brings up a very valid point. How much content really did get cut from this game? How much content is cut from MANY games to fit onto a DVD9 for the 360?? Really makes you wonder just how much the 360 is holding back the next-generation of gaming.
its worse than installing because you need to place most the same game data on disk 2 plus installing speeds the game up not to mention it cost more to manufacture two disc so whats really betyter letting a gasme install for 5 minutes making the game faster or having the company spend money to manufacture two disc and cut out lots of content?
Perhaps you are unaware, therefore I will be kind and assume you are uninformed. Blank Blu-ray disks and DVD media do not cost the same. I can buy a stack of 100 blank DVD's for $25. On the other hand 1 blank blu-ray disk will cost you about same price.
Switching the dvd every 20 hours or so isnt a concern for me. I switch more games a day if there is much to play, so no big deal, never was (good ol PS1 FF times)
Agreed rather a 5 second disk change than a 20 minute and 5 gig install
id rather hav no/minimum annoyin loadz screens
the install is a one time deal. where you have to change disk any time it ask you to.
nope. cuz u only change half way through 1 time. dumbasses never played a muti disc game before? don't act like u didn't have to swap discs every other game on ps1.
what about re-play value? and what if a game like a racing game has two disk? how would that work i mean cirtain tacks on opne disk and different ones on the other?
hey noob your the dumb ass . when the game needs something from the second disk its going to ask you to insert the other disk. yea you might play half thru then agasin you may not. but a one time instal is it i can sit on my couch and not have to get up to change a disk. your a dumbass for wanting to have to get up to change the disk
too bad games aren't designed that way. devs aren't as dumb as you. they make the game so that you don't go back and forth like that.
I dont see why people care about multi-disc games. I think Blu-Ray was a smart choice because eventually games will become huge and 4 discs is pushing it. I also think having more discs makes the game seem more worth my money. I used to think it was so cool having FFVIII on 4 discs.
Remember them days..Still the Best FF have been 4-disc, imagine that..
The era of huge games is long gone for the most part. For 50GBs of space MGS 4 got 10 hours of gameplay. 10-12 Hours is about as huge as it's going to get unless somebody comes up with a way to make development cheaper. Or EA stops paying overtime again. RPGs will be the only exception.
Didn't LO come on 4 discs? That was not all that lengthy and seeing as how this one is on two, would it be safe to presume that this game is a bit shorter?
....Read my reply to sajj316 above and you'll see it all depends on the game. How big and how open was oblivion and it came on 1 disc. I'm not sure what the average was for LO but I put lots of hours into it. For an jRPG game beating the game without "sidequest" and "extra missions" and without acquiring every "item", "spells", and "magic", you could easily cut-down the length of time of play. MGS4 is 50 Gigs(Un-compressed) and as you can see for the type of game it is, it can be beat in less then 10 hrs. IT DEPENDS ON THE GAME.
LO has a lot of FMV, thats why it needs 4 discs.
didn't really have to be on 4 discs. maybe 2. maybe even 1. a lot of it was just because of inefficient programming.
On disc 4 you can acces all previous places you been at so thats strange isnt it? I belive the cutscenes most have taken alot of space? I completed the game today took me 60 hours and i think i need to go back to get all the achievements now..
I see the Sony fans are doing their usual whining about a System they don't even own & I definitely would rather switch discs then wait 20 to 30 minutes for it to install especially with how MGS4 does it
Yeah then someone like you come along who is just as stupid as the ones you're commenting about. Then make an ignorant comment about a game you've never played claiming it has a 20-30 minute install. Slap yourself. It might just raise your IQ level.
what is this, 1998? multiple discs are a thing in the past please excuse my PS3 fanboy comment, i just felt it was necessary lol, 2 discs arent that bad
Behold the future! who knows.. maybe next gen we are bless with at least 45 minutes installs... mmm.. maybe.. just maybe games will required to be fully installed... you go to the store put the game and fully install it... why not just digital distribution? lol! I want to stay in the past... do the math.. it takes less time to swap a disc than to install a game... not to mention that if you own other games (most people do) you will do disc swapping anyways... so, people playing this game will probably swap the disc to play other games before they are asked to insert 2nd disc....
For real Microsoft need to fix up with all this multiple discs nonesense. That was all good and cool back in the day with games like FFVII in the PS1-era but not now. No, there is no excuse for this on a current-gen console in the HD technology era we are in now. Not even the major last gen PS2 games had 2 discs. First Lost Odessey (4 discs was just takin the cake!) and now this? And apparently the next Forza game maybe be 3 discs. This is sheer embarrassment for Microsoft!
A pit full of fanboys. You all getting boring day by day. Xbox 720 ps4 and wii2. I'll buy them again once they're out. Watching you guys defending multinational corporates is sooo much fun.
Something to strive for to get to the second or third disc of an RPG. Now it is something that is shunned. Sad. Oh well. I will play it no matter how many discs it has.
Nothing wrong with multi disc games when they are RPG's or naritive driven. Whats the big deal? Its only a problem if it were an arcade game - then you could justofiably moan as you would have to change discs depending on what circuit you needed or whcih level you were playing and you could be forced to swap multiple tiles. This kind of game, its one swap, and just once. Not an issue. I guess those who troll about it are using it to have a 'dig' at the more limited storage space of DVD, but as long developers manage to fit good arcade titles on one disc its not a problem. Of course more room would be preferable, but its hardly a show stopper is it?
To need two discs and of course XBox 360 fans are going insane just like they were going berserk with PS3 firmware update and they say switching discs isn't a big deal when this is suppose to be next gen not last gen!
I was just playing, but I still think multiple discs in this current gen is kinda silly. However it aint the end of the world.
I could care less. As long as the game is good who cares?
Even Otacon thinks changing discs are ridiculous.
