they had the hardware to handle such a game, and now they have the coders and the big names to back it up. If they can keep that team assembled and constantly busy with new projects, they may finally be able to crack the Japanese market in a big way.

according the the sorta reliable WIKIPEDIA -
Microsoft Game Studios -

In-House Studios
* ACES Game Studio - Flight Simulator series and Combat Flight Simulator series
* Bungie - Halo series, Myth series, Marathon series
* Ensemble - Age of Empires series, Age of Mythology series, Halo Wars
* FASA Interactive - Shadowrun, Crimson Skies, Mechwarrior series.
* Lionhead - Black & White series, The Movies, Fable series.
* Rare - Perfect Dark series, Kameo, Killer Instinct series, Banjo series
* Turn 10 - Forza Motorsport series.
* Wingnut Interactive - A new studio set up in conjunction with Peter Jackson. They will be producing a new game based in the Halo universe.

I also looked on the Mistwalker website but since I don't know Japanese I didn't see anything that would lead me to believe they are owned by Microsoft Game Studios.

WIKI About Mistwalker -

Mistwalker is a Japanese video game development studio started by Hironobu Sakaguchi (the creator of the popular Final Fantasy series) in 2004 with the financial backing of Microsoft. The logo and name were trademarked in 2001. Mistwalker outsources coding duties to other companies (including Artoon, and Feel Plus), preferring to focus primarily on the design portion of game development.

Sakaguchi is the president of the new studio, and Kensuke Tanaka, the creator of the PlayOnline system, is the vice president.

In August 2004, it was announced that Mistwalker had begun work on three new RPG games. One of them is a strategic RPG for the Nintendo DS titled ASH: Archaic Sealed Heat. The other two titles, Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, are confirmed to be exclusive to Microsoft's Xbox 360 videogame console.
