Hideo Kojima, creator of the Metal Gear series, has revealed the top five most memorable and influential video games for him.
Who isn't influenced by Master Chief?
a person who likes other games better? not everyone is supposed to like kratos, snake, masterchief or mario. its personal choice!enjoy gaming!
That charactaer was renderd in 3d but his personality was 2d...all he ever said was yeah, no...im gonna kick some ass...
D**n near everybody...
Master Chief vs. kratos === kratos finish him and cuts his head off hahahahahahahaha
master chief isnt even a person....isnt he a canvas to put yourself on there or soemthing?
Still idiots out there that think Halo is the be-all-end-all of first person shooters. Halo is a great series (I played the hell out of Halo 1), but people really need to quit the "Halo = godlike" mentality.
Master Chief was obviously influenced by the infamous Doom marine. Its the same with Solid Snake, he was influenced by Snake Plissken. These characters don't put influences in other games, they had influences placed on them. Plus no self respecting devs will have their characters be influenced by MC or Snake simple because it doesn't make any sense to clone, a clone.
*pukes* see I'm influenced...
If a game has you caring about its hero, like so many care for MC or Snake, then the game did its job in the emotion department. MC has just as much of an influence as Snake or any other major video game hero, simply because they mean so much to the people who play their games.
To whoever disagreed with that, please put your fanboyism aside. My point was that, epically speaking, Master Chief did a perfectly fine job at touching his audience (you wouldn't understand the "Believe" campaign otherwise). To say he wasn't an influential hero is asinine. I'm not saying MC is more or less of an influence compared to Snake, but an influence nonetheless.
I'm down with Super mario bros and Xevious. 2 of my all time favorite games. Easily. halo has no place on anyone's influential list, by the way.
Then why has EVERY FPS since 2002 been borrowing elements from it?
"Ever Since 2002" There is where you went wrong.
Ever since Halo 1 other games have taken from it, you're wrong. Sorry you can't except the truth.
other then health regeneration, what has been taken from Halo since its creation? I'm seriously not trying to flame here.
i believe what you meant to say was, sorry you cant ACCEPT the truth. fun fun.
Lol, Halo wasn't the first FPS ever. This guys trying to do a "Gears invented third person gaming" thing with halo. ROFL.
Fender: Read this, it's a nice article talking about that. http://www.cheatcc.com/extr...
I remember the first time i played the original Halo and everything just... fitted. The game was stunning for it's time and the controls were pretty intuitive as far as console FPS games went. That's not to say there aren't better games now, but Halo did have a big input in console shooters, and in keeping the original Xbox afloat in a market of skeptics.
If you played pc games then you'd realize that all Halo did was successfully bring first person shooters to consoles in a way where gamers weren't saying "Screw controllers, where's my mouse". Other then that it didn't bring anything that wasn't brought before. So yea. Stop being one of those ignorant kids yapping off about Halo and do some damn research. I know most N4g users know what i'm talking about. Yes it was a fun game and did have great controls , but it's just another shooter that has now been overshadowed by Call of Duty. (I'm not even a huge COD fan anymore either)
fusionboxer, I don't recall anyone complaining about wanting a kb/m with goldeneye.
This quote really made me smirk: "Halo has left an indelible mark upon gaming in general, almost single-handedly redefining the relatively young FPS genre." FPS games have been around since the late eighties. Get a clue, idiot.
He has a nice list of games actually. :P
Obviously you did, otherwise you wouldn't be here. Moron.
can your own game series influence you? I mean, great series though :D
ha yeah I was thinking about that as well
Since when does your own game _not_ influence you? I think it's fair to say that each of his games has improved (or just changed) upon the previous.
Especially if it turned out to be unexpectedly good.. you may wanna out do your self or push the limits which in kojima's case he really does or at least try to...
I like how he included MGS!
I would like to know Miyamoto's influences.
drugs. heavily influenced by drugs.
Bubbelz, rello, bubbelz. I don't think anything could really influence Mario apart from smoking something. How else would you imagine a fat, short, Italian plumber as a main character in a video game? I mean really?!....
yeah play super mario bros, i can see a lot of lsd went in to the developement of that game
Where do u think the mushrooms came from ;)?
Out of this World was a goody.
kojima said the game he is influnced by and alerday another fan boi war is about to begin....people on this site need to understand every one has different oppnion and u just have to live with it...
Why is Kojima listing his own game MGS as one of the most influential. Doesn't that seem a little pretentious? ... or am I missing something?
Probally means alot to him and he looks back on it for advice
And as someone else pointed out above, if you think about it, it might not have influenced him when he made Metal Gear Solid. But I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that it was very influential in his creation of MGS2, MGS3, and MGS4. I think that's what he means when he lists it.
Somebody plz help me i aint a real gamer i havent played any of those apart from MGS!!! But i didnt even complete it or save the chick lol
To me the most influential games are 1) doom 1 2) Dune 2 3)Ultima online 4) Star Craft 5) Gran Turismo
He didn't say what was influential to the general public or the market, he just said what he himself was influenced by personally. Although the original MGS was certainly an extremely influential game.
For me are 1.)diablo2 2.)suikoden series 3.)Metal gear solid series 4.)chrono trigge 5.)final fantasy 7 and 10
Thats a great list. The only game you're missing is Diablo and maybe Quake but you're dead on.
How could you not list Dungeon and Dragons, Metal Gear, and Civilization. Those three games spawned three new genre.
What a gr8 game, can still hear the music
I want my 30 seconds back that I spent reading that.
I would have never guessed that Barrack Obama likes to play RPGS.
Its a lie SDF propaganda.. My list 1. gears 1 2. Gears 2 3. PGR3/4 4. COD4 xbox360 5. GTAIV xbox360
You forgot Splinter Cell since Act 1 in the desert is eerly familiar. I didn't think you would list your own game as your most influential since all the fishheads claim you to be so "humble"..
you need to get a life
lol, everything I've seen from MGS4, aside from the stupid asian storyline, is a direct rip from Splinter Cell: Double Agent. Don't believe me? Go beat it. Great game.
Because i love Splinter Cell Double Agent's storyline and it's gameplay is good but there's nothing even remotely similar about the two. What are you going to compare *****SPOILER ALERT***** the return to shadow moses a rip of the last level in new york during the winter time? I don't recall Sam taking a trip to England either. So it has the middle east in common big deal, you know the sequel to that 50 cent game is going to be set in the middle east is that a rip off of SC:DA as well?
Gears 1 isn't influental, Gears 2 not yet released, PGR3/4 not that innovative, COD4 and GTA4 on the PS3 and better, too.
Out of this world, hands down, one of the best titles I ever played. Also Flashback :D And how to forget the Monkey Island Series... the Mario and Sonic games too... :D It´s nice to know his influences... tho the "atrticle" is a little too shallow, I´d like him to speak a little more. Either he is an android or they just translated a small part of a longer interview... anyways, japanese geniuses like this one tend to speak very little. I have all miyazaki´s movies "making of" books and his words are very few, they either understand and see so much more than me, or they simply don´t have the skill to communicate with words (hence their brilliant communication through other channles, videogames, movies, etc.) XD
Monkey Islands and Mario Bros are games that I dig too. A DOS game named Jetpack was a game that got me interested in making games and modifying existing ones.
Flash back.. wow, that brought back memories ! i would love to see flash back hit live arcade, or psn.
1. Onimusha 3 2. Metal Gear Solid 3 3. Street Fighter 3rd strike 4. God of War 1 5. Resident Evil 2
Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams rocks. :o
"Halo invented health regen" "Gears invented third person gaming" HAHAHAHAA poor fanboys. Halo influenced NOTHING, Halo merely evolved, like its title, COMBAT EVOLVED. Halo evolved with technology, it did nothing new that did not exist on PC. Anyway, back ON TOPIC, Kojima is awesome. He never mentioned Zelda, Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest, which is a curious fact considering he is japanese. Nor street fighter. Or Virtua Fighter. Oh well, to each his own.
Halo made the amazing console control scheme that is used by many FPS's to date.
WTF are you talking about. Halo's control scheme is nothing more than attempt to translate keyboard and mouse movements to the gamepad. They didn't freaking invent FPS controls, the PC did that with Wolf 3D.
Prior to Halo, the only good console FPS were GoldenEye and Perfect Dark. Before those, there was nothing but garbage. Halo redefined console FPS (keyword: CONSOLE), like GE007 and PD before it. Call of Duty 4 may have taken the torch away, but I don't see it as being better than Halo - just a different style of game. I also don't think Halo is better than PD, nor PD better than GE007. They are all fantastic games in their own right. To say one is better than another is just pure fanboyism. They're all pioneers in the console FPS market and helped bring console FPS where it is today.
Kojima san looks sleepy in the pic. Maybe he's watched one too many cutscenes?
Oh Jenzo... you creative son of a gun! ...
It's more of a peaceful state, thinking: Thank God I don't have to port MGS4 to the 360. :)
