Carpe Fulgur’s Andrew Dice Apologizes for Trails in the Sky Delays

Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC is one of the most promising JRPGs on the horizon, but it’s been there for a while, and whenever someone asks XSEED or Carpe Fulgur about it the response is either “it’ll be done when it’s done” or, more commonly silence. Today Andrew Dice, Carpe Fulgur’s lead editor, broke that silence.

I didn't know Andrew Dice Clay was working on video games.

The Adventures of Ford Fairlane was his best movie.

Did they get somebody else to finish it for now though, or what?

Skate-AK1424d ago

He said he sent the rest to XSEED to be finished.

I read his blog. Just wow. I thought XSEED just put the game on the backburner but it actually went a LOT deeper. Before anyone starts blaming XSEED you NEED to read the guy's blog. It's some powerful and emotional stuff.

Andrew Dice specifically said HE was the one holding up the localization. XSEED had already done their part. XSEED constantly sent him messages wondering what was going on with the translation to the point they started getting angry. Yes XSEED was supposed to have it out in 2014 and they were on track to do it, but Carpe Fulgur (Dice's company) didn't complete their part as scheduled. He said if anyone is to blame it's him. Blaming XSEED for Dice's actions is being unfair.

If one person can so dramatically derail XSEED's localization plans, to the point where the game is delayed more than a year... yeah, XSEED deserves some blame: they're clearly doing something wrong.

Inception1424d ago (Edited 1424d ago )

Like Revengeance said, you should read the blog. It's Andrew / Carpe Fulgur who delay the schedule. Xseed themself already finished their part. They just waiting for Carpe Fulgur translated script.

Inception- I agree. This was something that Xseed could not have forseen, and those who don't seem to understand the concept of "hindsight always being 20-20, blah blah, could have been avoided" have never been in a jam like this. The ONLY way this all could have been avoided was if Xseed had done the translation for the game themselves, which would have been an impossible task for the 7 employees the company has.

The Japanese script contains about 2.5 million characters, where the plot dialogue (no NPC's) alone is 800 pages written in Japanese. This graphic helps show how massive this task was...

Japanese to english translation isn't something that can be fed into google translate because the languages are so dissimilar. This gives some examples of this:
