Sony can't solve all of their problems with magic, who knew?

Yamster from Sarcastic Gamer writes:

"If any of you have ever been on any PlayStation-related blog at any point in time since the PS3's release (and let's be frank, that'll be a fair few of you) you'll have noticed that the demands for an in-game Xross Media Bar have been ever-ongoing. Every single post on the the PlayStation.blog (still not understanding the need for that dot) has received streams of comments from the rabid PS3 owners complaining about a lack of service and a lack of respect for the consumer base who've splashed out several hundred dollars/pounds/Euros/et cetera on their shiny black behemoth."

This is so true:
"What people don’t realize, and I really wish they would, is that Sony aren’t a bunch of technological wizards. They can’t just magic up an in-game XMB out of thin air, or pull it out of a hat. I don’t want to sound like some sort of extremist fanboy here leaping to Sony’s defense as if I’m taking a bullet for the President. I’m trying to look at this situation from a relatively neutral viewpoint. I too have felt a teeny-weeny bit aggravated by the slow rate at which Sony have given us updates but very slowly I started to grow a brain and realized that it’s not as easy as everybody thinks"

but he does make a few fallacies in his statements... 1 that the PS3 only has 256 megs, another that naive multiprocessing is what good programmers due with the cell, and another yet that the system software can't fit more into it at the current moment. The fact is that the system software is even with 2.4 under 1/2 the size it was at launch, Multiprocessing is more than distributing tasks to different processors and 512 != 256

I do agree with his conclusions however:
"I would happily put my money on the in-game XMB’s feature list also being expanded in the coming months with further firmware updates. It’s inevitable that Sony will iron out the kinks and work out efficient ways of including new features alongside ones the PS3 has already, but until then I’m pretty happy with 2.40. Cheers Sony: everyone else might hate you but you’ve got a grateful friend for life right here."

PREACH IT BROTHER!

:)

Foolsjoker3429d ago

I agree people were complaining about not having the in-game XMB then when it does come they go rabid that there are a few problems. People just can't be satisfied...

mistertwoturbo3429d ago

The best feature to me is just replying to my friends when they send me a message.

One thing people need to realize about any console or product ever in existence. There will always be complainers and whiners about them not getting this or that. Once the feature is implemented, they will continue to whine about other things.

But I suppose the good thing behind these whiners, everybody else will get extra features anyway.

iamtehpwn3429d ago

GAH.
See, This is exactly what happens when you buy Materia from the Sector 7 slums.

Xiru3429d ago

Well spoken and bubbles! PS3 is the most advanced hardware this generation of consoles and of course it will have a few problems here or there, but Sony is working to fix them. They are giving us the features that WE want. This and the fact that the PS3 offers the best gaming experience for me is why I'm sticking with PS3 this generation. All you haters, keep hating. It will be much sweeter when you see that PS3 is the best choice for gamers this time around.

Captain Tuttle3429d ago

That people are waiting for features that the competition has had for years (in game music anyone?). I don't think it's unreasonable to expect all the basic features that you can get with a 360 on a PS3 when you've paid more money for a PS3. That's not being a fanboy, that's being a consumer.

Time_Is_On_My_Side3429d ago

I paid more money for my XBOX 360 with everything it came around $1,000.00 and the PlayStation 3 around $800.00. You actually pay less and get more with the PlayStation 3. Now the prices are a little different even with that said it's still cheaper.

Captain Tuttle3429d ago

But fine, I'll give that to you. My point is the same...demanding an improved product isn't blind, whining fanboyism, it's called being a consumer. What's wrong with demanding the best product?

Time_Is_On_My_Side3429d ago (Edited 3429d ago )

There is nothing wrong on demanding the best product it's when people become unrealistic. For example people will complain about the limited use with games that don't support the trophy system. It was released today you'll need to wait for developers to actually think of things to add. People expect all titles that are already released to have the support.

Not even the XBOX 360 allows you to switch from game to game stored on the hard drive. Does anyone realize that feature over XBOX in-game blade? They always seem to focus on that one little thing you can't do.

With my previous comment it's because not everything comes in the package. One of the expensive items was the Network Adaptor which is a little cheaper now.

cmrbe3429d ago

That is a very simplistic way of looking at things and you know very well its not that simple.

1. Live was developed since the xbox.
2. Live is a paid service.
3. Sony has lot more to do to catch up so obviously they will need more time to do so.

As for paying more. You know very well that the PS3 is cheaper considering the in built tech.

I could easily turn your argument and ask that x360 fans should expect things PS3 owners enjoy since launch but i wouldn't do that because its not that simple.

Old Snake3429d ago

The guy is right if you really wanted to get everything a PS3 has for a 360 it'd probably cost more. Blu-ray - HDDVD, PSN - Live, charger cable, etc.

Polluted3429d ago

Why does nobody ever complain that they can't install a secondary OS on their 360? Or that they can't copy movies to the HD? Or play HD movies without buying some add on? Each console has its advantages and its disadvantages. Why should we expect each console to have exactly the same features as the other? That's like b*tching at the Burger King drive through because they won't sell you a Big Mac.

kenjix3429d ago

It's been 3 years and it's still not fixed.
There no standard for a hard drive and they don't offer a high definition media format.

It's funny how easily people over look the real issues.

Isaac3429d ago

While Microsoft was focused on rushing a console out of the box with tons of features that could have been added over time, Sony focused on top notch quality. And as a consumer, not a fanboy, what do you prefer: A quality product that does not die every now and then, or a product with tons of features that are not even necessary to play games but that only make the experience better at the expense of having to call customer support every now and then because they happened to launch a faulty product.

Take your pick.

And by the way, as a consumer, why should I buy a console whose developers do not support its hardware to the most like the HDD, not to mention one that does not even use standards like HDMI and a next generation optical format, and charges for a service that has ads to begin with? Especially when the competition has a comparable online service with no ads for free, and for 50 extra bucks I am getting the whole next generation package, in technologies, movies, easily upgradeable hard drive, optical reader, and so on; that is, unless you include the costs of Xbox LIVE, which then make the inferior experience an even more expensive one. As a consumer I have the right to want and ask for it because I paid almost the same if not more, no?

mistertwoturbo3429d ago

"That's like b*tching at the Burger King drive through because they won't sell you a Big Mac."

bwahahahha best quote I've seen in a long time.

The funny thing is, you'll get consumers who will b*tch at McDonalds for not selling them a Whopper.

(obviously not literally speaking here)

jamenees3429d ago

Good points. much props.

MikeGdaGod3429d ago

while MS was making sure 36o owners had custom music, sony was making sure the ps3 didn't burn down homes.

i'd take the latter.

JasonXE3429d ago (Edited 3429d ago )

Obviously the rrod was a piss poor job and MS finally man up. Doesn't make it right but what can you do?

I'm debating within myself whether to argue your points Issac but I know it's not going anywhere (a infinite loop). If you picked up either console, or both, you can't go wrong. We should enjoy what we got and let the businesses do the fighting. I'll leave it at that d=D

plenty a tool3429d ago (Edited 3429d ago )

captain tuttle, you can't even imply in the most simple and diplomatic terms that the ps3 is not that it's cracked up to be..lol

if you do, the sony defense force is all over you...sad people on this site.

and just look at all the kevin costner "bodyguards" below aswell...lol n4g gets better and better.

Apocalypse Shadow3429d ago

but to not understand that things take TIME is the problem.

everyone knows i prefer ps3 over 360,so you know where i'm coming from right off the bat.i don't mind that sony is taking their TIME in getting everything up to speed.

when sony created ps3 with all the bells and whistles and i paid $600 for it,even though it didn't have some of the firmware features it has today,i didn't complain.i knew that it took TIME and that i was getting these things from sony for FREE.

i got(60gig)-ps1,ps2ps3,cd,dvd,b luray playback.i got a web browser,motion control,rechargeable built in battery,memory card slots,1080p support,usb support,hdmi support,etc.WHO WOULD COMPLAIN ON THAT?i don't have to pull ps1 or ps2 out of my closet.

some gamers complain about not having ps2 support through BC.it's not that big of an issue if you have a ps2.even if sony said that they were going to fully support it.and second,i have it and love it but if it wasn't there,i still wouldn't care.but again,it was given to me freely and built in.and anyone that knows about emulation, knows that it's hard to emulate a lot of games easily.just look at MAME.it took time for MAME(look it up).

some complain about not having certain features XBL has or has had when it took XBL years to get where it is today.do i care about cross game chat, messaging and such?NOPE.not really.i don't really care about online gaming.but since sony gave it to me for free,it's just more icing on a great cake.

sony gave me a FREE music thing that has the earth on it.they gave me a FREE thing to see my photos.they gave me FREE wallpapers.they gave me FREE online if i want it.they gave me FREE items to download.they gave me a FREE store that i don't have to SUBSCRIBE to.they gave me FREE firmware updates.they gave me a FREE,although busted ticker i don't use.(i don't think anyone uses the ticker),they gave me a FREE bluray update to 2.0.

but do you see a pattern in my post?i'm getting a lot of this for****FREE****.and they are allowing me to choose if i want to use it or not.if they give me HOME for FREE and TROPHY page for FREE,or an update to my broswer because it need better flash and shouldn't crash or freeze when you have lots of things on those pages for FREE,then still.....

I HAVE NO COMPLAINTS WHATSOEVER.

because i didn't have these things with ps2 or any system.and i skipped 360 altogether.so anything it has over ps3 right now,i'm not missing it.and really don't care if it's there or not.but i APPRECIATE what sony is doing for its fanbase.and they are listening and trying to give us what we want.but,it takes TIME.and so far, most of these things are FREE.for those that complain, you need to start APPRECIATING WHAT YOU'RE GETTING.same goes for 360 fans.

apocalypse......see? no bias towards 360 today.

aftrdark213429d ago (Edited 3429d ago )

Bubbles sir. It seems some ppl have problems understanding this FREE concept.

Whoooop3429d ago

How much for your comment??????

Nathaniel_Drake3429d ago

People that are old veterans of the Playstation family and bought the Sony system since its inception know what Sony is all about for gaming, they love quality and it takes time like you said, so for me anyway I know it's a waiting game but there is a fruition of rewards at the end of the line, this is what Sony does and who they are, so if you are just a rookie in the PS family brand this is the pattern....Patience will reap benefits! =)

mistertwoturbo3429d ago

FREE is great and all. (I love every bit of it)

But you have to understand though, that people don't mind paying for certain features. That's why there are millions of people who are playing on XBL and don't mind paying the premium.

HOWEVER, it is very generous of Sony to offer similar kinds of things for free.

To use the fast food analogy, it's like XBL people will pay $5 for a Whopper + fries + coke, but PSN is offering us Big Macs for free but without the fries and the coke.

juuken3429d ago

I'm very happy with my PS3. The PS3 has come a long way since 2007, when it was criticized for being too expensive and not having enough games. I do believe that if Sony takes their time to deliver as much as they can, we can have a service that will be enjoyable for years to come. I'm not against any consumer voicing their concern over a product but when it comes to the point where they scream, whine, and shout insults at the very company they're supposed to be supporting, that's when things get out of hand.

This is why I tend to stay away from the blog most of the time. People STILL don't realize that Sony is a hardware company and MS is a software company. It's obvious that MS would have gotten Live down for their system because they have the most experience with software. Sony, on the other hand are new to this online business and won't release things unless they are ready. That's what I like about Sony-they want to make money, but they want to earn it well.

Perhaps MS should take a few lessons or two from Sony.

Bzone243429d ago

"Sony, on the other hand are new to this online business and won't release things unless they are ready."

How can you say they won't release things until they are ready when FW 2.4 was released and pulled in the same day?

juuken3429d ago

Bzone, that wasn't my point.

Yes, 2.4 was pulled temporarily to help the people who needed help. That's what Sony does-they help people. Did MS actually do that-help their customers when they had issues with their system? No, they actually used that so-called warranty to sweep the problem under the rug.

You need to reread my comments.

Bladestar3429d ago

lol... so, actually paying for the shipping and repair of any RROD console is "warranty to sweep the problem under the rug. "... that must be a very big rug... a 1 billion dollar$ rug..... did you forgot what Sony did with the PS1 and PS2 with the drives issues? nothing... people had to cover their own console... that's where lots of companies made lots of money for insurance...

power of Green 3429d ago (Edited 3429d ago )

"Sony, on the other hand are new to this online business and won't release things unless they are ready."

LOL You mean Sony sits back waiting for the competition to innovate for them this generation waiting for others to test the waters then rushes to keep up when some one else is on to something.

They sould have waited for Home's release so it would have had a bigger impact with more content that makes use of the upgrade.

Hell I'm still waiting for the XBL spring update now I will have to wait for some super XBL update, the point is I think it is funny you typed this:

"Perhaps MS should take a few lessons or two from Sony"

^^MSFT should release major updates then remove them from XBL due to possible console harm and software malfunctions?.

cmrbe3429d ago

Blade. Suits your personality very well :).

juuken3429d ago (Edited 3429d ago )

PoG, that's why people can't stand you. Whatever you say never comes out correctly. It's always a bunch of BS. And Blade, why don't you bend over for MS once more? You seem to be doing that a lot lately. Oh, and cute avatar. It shows just how envious you are of Sony.

"lol... so, actually paying for the shipping and repair of any RROD console is "warranty to sweep the problem under the rug. "... that must be a very big rug... a 1 billion dollar$ rug..... did you forgot what Sony did with the PS1 and PS2 with the drives issues? nothing... people had to cover their own console... that's where lots of companies made lots of money for insurance..."

Lol, bringing up that issue again? That wasn't a widespread problem Blade, not like the RROD. I still have the very first Playstation and my uncle still has the very first PS2. They work pretty well with no problems. All electronics have problems. It just depends on the failure rate and how you handle them. If you can give me some statistical data which shows this was such a huge problem, then it would be greatly appreciated. If not, then I do believe you're talking out of your ass again.

Yes, I do believe that MS used the warranty to sweep the RROD under the rug.

You know why?

Because they pretended they didn't know about the problem before. I'm sure the RROD is still an issue even today and will continue to be an issue until they either rework the 360 or create a new console without those problems.

As for you PoG...

"LOL You mean Sony sits back waiting for the competition to innovate for them this generation waiting for others to test the waters then rushes to keep up when some one else is on to something."

No, Sony was actually waiting for the right moment to strike. I have always compared Sony to a deadly rattlesnake. Back in the days, when the PS2 first came out, nobody thought that Sony would continue in the gaming industry. They thought that the PS2 would be a failure. Now, in 2008, the PS2 brand is still going very strong. You know what contributed to this?

Quality.

"Hell I'm still waiting for the XBL spring update now I will have to wait for some super XBL update, the point is I think it is funny you typed this:"

Then wait for your *super* XBL update and hope your console doesn't brick waiting for it. When I do get a 360, I won't be paying for Live, not when PSN is catching up so quickly and it's free.

"^^MSFT should release major updates then remove them from XBL due console harm and software malfunctions?."

And that's you spinning that completely out of proportion. The 2.4 issue was an isolated issue. I've downloaded 2.4 with no problems whatsoever. I hope that others will come through once Sony fixes this problem. I'm sure that the 360 had it's own share of issues when it went through an update?

Please PoG...use your God-given brain...if you have one that is.

Homicide3429d ago

MS likes to rip off customers. HD disc movie playback, wifi connection, online play, themes, wallpapers, HDD for arcade owners - you all have to pay for that on the 360. Only on PS3, do you get that for free. You microsoft leg humpers are too blind to realize that.

Bzone243429d ago

"Bzone, that wasn't my point.

Then what was your point? You said sony doesn't release things before they are ready, yet they released 2.4 and pulled it because it wasn't ready. What would you be saying right now if Microsoft released a dashboard update and pulled it the same day because users were having problems?

Also I don't get how extending a warranty for a known problem is sweeping it under the rug. If they didn't extend the warranty and wouldn't fix/replace the consoles for free would be sweeping the problem under the rug. You are really a backwards girl.

juuken3429d ago

"Then what was your point? You said sony doesn't release things before they are ready, yet they released 2.4 and pulled it because it wasn't ready. What would you be saying right now if Microsoft released a dashboard update and pulled it the same day because users were having problems?"

I wouldn't say anything Bzone because not everyone is perfect. MS wouldn't have done that because they're experts when it comes to software. They would probably get that right the first time. Sony pulled back 2.4 for the people who were having problems and that was temporarily. Typical xbox fanatics. They make a big something out of nothing.

"Also I don't get how extending a warranty for a known problem is sweeping it under the rug. If they didn't extend the warranty and wouldn't fix/replace the consoles for free would be sweeping the problem under the rug. You are really a backwards girl."

They should have fixed the 360 from the START. You mean to tell me they had a head start on a product and yet their product has more glaring problems than their original product? What happens when that three year warranty expires. Would you have to buy yet another console? MS wasn't aware of this problem at all...or that's what they claimed happened. I highly doubt that were very clueless about this issue. They knew they had a defective product on their hands and yet they rushed it out of the market. And then when problems arose, instead of pulling the product OFF the market to actually fix it, they left it there and used the warranty to sweep the problem under the rug.

I know exactly what I'm talking about and you would have to be a damn FOOL to not figure out that MS has been ripping you off since day one.

Almost on a daily basis i get my diet of heartfelt laughter out of you.. :)

1. First you make a genuine but very flawed statement. (No sarcasm unfortunately!)

2. Then people respond with valid facts, logical debate and well documented industry truths to once again completely own your lard ass.

3. Then you proceed to dig in and defend your faulty logic with the longest most rambling, desperate posts the world has ever seen.

I'd like to say "give it up Juuken", but I know you'll just reply with another monstrous, despairing rant.

So, instead, i'll say "keep it up Juuken!"

At the very least in this way your ongoing presence here reminds me to be grateful to the universe that i am not at all like you...

..oh. um.. and so I can have a daily, roaring, bellylaugh!

Thanks babe. xx
