2014 has been a year of transition for video games. The Playstation 4 and Xbox One have begun to settle down, with the Console Wars all but abandoned and everybody more focused on just making great games. Steam continues to revolutionise the way we play PC games, even more so with the addition of the beta-funding initiative Greenlight. And then there was #GamerGate.
Ah, #GamerGate. What a crock of nonsense you were. Still, that whole mess seems to be just about snuffed out, and many of the other big scandals of the year in gaming – the bugginess of the new Assassin’s Creed, the mess of Destiny’s launch – seem to be under control. Now everything’s back to normal and all the AAA releases are done, it’s time to look forward.
