There was a time when video game releases were more surprising; a time when the announcement of a sequel was a shock, rather than an expectation. Those days are disappearing rapidly, thanks to the growing popularity of yearly releases.
Angry Birds but no Madden?
Yeah I agree, I didn't even know Angry Birds is annual, I don't follow or play mobile/cell phone games. Madden should have been on the list though.
Pretty much every single sports game
Call of Duty, Mario, Pokemon..what else?
Halo. Recently been stated that they expect that to last for 30 more years.
GTA there will always be a new one
One every 5-6 years though. Not annually..
"There was a time when video game releases were more surprising; a time when the announcement of a sequel was a shock, rather than an expectation." That's not even a little bit true. They were pumping out sequels and licensed titles like cocaine in the 80's. There has never been a time in this industry when that wasn't happening. Sonic Mario Crash Bandicoot Halo Donkey Kong Country Resident Evil Half-Life God of War Pac-Man They were all expected to get sequels and they DID get sequels. There was no surprise about it. Nostalgia is great, but not when you're lying to induce it.
madden? Hasnt missed a year in 25 years.
