Halo 5's Aiming Has Changed, And Not Everyone Likes It

If you're a longtime Halo fan, you know that a good amount of the weapons in your arsenal would only fire from the hip. That is, compared to most popular first-person shooters, they had no scope system. But in Halo 5, developers 343 are implementing something they call smart-link—which is essentially an aiming-down-the-sights scoping feature—and some players who have early access to trying this new feature out in a multiplayer beta aren't happy with the change.

The story is too old to be commented.

This is pretty much the opposite of what 343i said.

"No penalty to hip fire in H5, no movement penalty when scoping/zooming, no flinch. Tune in for the beta gameplay reveal at #HaloFest Monday."

That's a straight up lie, the aiming is pretty heavily affected from a very short distance.

DJustinUNCHAIND1423d ago

Did you watch the same video I watched?

The only weapon that is "heavily affected" might be the AR.

Guess What? It's a beta. If you're so concerned then let the team know.

DarkAstronaut1423d ago

100%, it is a beta and this could change for the final release. But, that doesn't change the fact they straight up lied about it as of right now.

Foehammer1423d ago

Based on its very short comment history I believe the answer to your question is "No"

It's a troll article submitted by a troll who's only purpose is to spread hate.

Wake me when someone makes a sequel that parts of the community don't say either:

1) It's changed to much

2) It's too much like the last one

Enjoy the beta while the troll sits and stews, lol

The aiming was pretty dead on for me, scope or not. The only gun I noticed a minor change on was the smg. Dmr, sniper, br, even the assault rifle were pretty dead on. I think you are confusing the reticle size as accuracy. When not scoped a smaller movement is a bigger change the reticle is less accurate, not the gun, because of POV. Good players realize how to compensate.

If I had to guess, I would say most of those complaining haven't even played it. Seemed majorly positive in the chat rooms in game. Obviously you can't please everyone though, even those who have played.

Septic1423d ago

Sorry where is the penalty for hip fire in this?

I have played the beta. They did not lie at all. Have you even played the beta??

DarkAstronaut1423d ago (Edited 1423d ago )

Are you kidding? One pattern is a circle, the other is not. The video shows that clearly.

Is everyone at Halowaypoint and Gaf just seeing things too? Get real.

marlinfan101423d ago (Edited 1423d ago )

To answer your question, septic, I think its safe to say no.

An increase in precision while scoping does not equate to a penalty for hip fire. It's still perfectly accurate

DarkAstronaut1423d ago (Edited 1423d ago )

"An increase in precision while scoping does not equate to a penalty for hip fire"

If it has an increase while scoping, it by default creates a penalty for hip firing. "Increase" would be the keyword here.

It's a fairly basic concept.

DarkAstronaut1423d ago (Edited 1423d ago )

A boost in one mode, naturally equals a decrease in the other. This is fairly simple stuff here. Yes, I know who you and Stinkles are on Gaf, all about your "site" and how Gaf feels about what you write.

marlinfan101423d ago (Edited 1423d ago )

The automatic guns have never been good at any sort of distance in halo. The added zoom has made them more effective at a distance, thats it. They're just as accurate as theyve always been when hip firing. It normally helps to try the games out before critiquing, but thats just me.

Madrigal1423d ago

How dare you use the truth and common sense in the N4G forums...!

BiggerBoss1423d ago

If theres an increase for ADS, how is that not a penalty to hip fire by default?

Dont get me wrong, from what ive seen the beta looks incredible (havent got to play it, dont have X1 yet). I just think its a bit ridiculous that whenever someone has a criticism of Halo 5 they get attacked by every Halo fan on the Site.

I dont think the extra ADS precision is a big deal, but some might, and their opinion doesnt necessitate everyone whipping out their pitchforks and torches

Septic1423d ago

Listen. There is NO PENALTY for hip fire.

If ADS enhances aim (for AUTOS ONLY) but skews your field of vision, how does it detract from hip firing?

For people who have actually been following Halo 5 developments, they will know that people assumed ADS would completely take over normal aiming when the video was released a few weeks back.

The chap got it wrong. End of. Thats why he's getting slapped around here.

No one is saying that you can't be critical of Halo. Some of the biggest critics are Halo fans such as myself. Some people don't actually understand what the issues are.

"Are you kidding? One pattern is a circle, the other is not. The video shows that clearly. "

Errr you're clearly getting confused here. A BOOST to ADS is NOT a penalty to hip fire.

Do you even play Halo? Do you even know what the issue actually is??

The people on NeoGaf in the link YOU provided are saying the same thing, just a few posts down!

Have you even played the beta?

"Get real. "

Take a piece of your own advice. I am on GAF. I had 343 reply directly to me as I was providing feedback on the game. On NeoGaf no less.

You don't get it. Just stop.

oODEADPOOLOo1423d ago (Edited 1423d ago )

Im having trouble understanding what people are bitchin about in this game, so let me see if I understand... So people seem to be mad because the bullet spray from aiming from the hip is less accurate, then aiming down the sights?

If thats true thats dumb, of course that is going to be the case. If anything they improved the game, they made the gunplay more realistic.

Sorry haven't played halo online in while, but it seems people have been weirdly accustomed to unrealistic gun play.

Moldiver1423d ago

I dont understand how you guys can argue with septic, when he has played the game. You guys havent. I know who I beleive. looking forward to unwrapping my XB1 on Xmas day. Halo is the first game I will be playing.

Halo 5 looks like immense fun, so im looking forward to playing the beta in a few days. Im saying that as a PS4 owner.

shloobmm31423d ago

I have been playing te beta non stop and there is no penalty for hip fire. A lot of times i prefer to fire from the hip and it worked perfectly fine. The only thing that I can tell that has actually changed is they have tones down the auto aim( which was a fantastic move on their behalf). Don't comment if you haven't even played the game yet.

Madrigal1423d ago (Edited 1423d ago )

Looks like someone hasn't played the BETA yet (Dark, start by actually buying an Xbox One) and is talking complete crap.

spicelicka1423d ago

That's barely a difference. The guy is standing two feet from the wall, if you're shooting someone at that range it makes no difference because you're making the same amount of hits.

The effect is only there because of the slight bloom, which isn't there when you zoom in. I don't see how this penalizes hip fire or has any serious affect on the game.

And since when have started overlooking the amount of fun in a game and focusing on the two cm diameter increase of hip firing.

CervantesPR11423d ago

buu bu buut microsoft NEVER lies!!

All halo fans enjoy ..I dont like it

SliceOfTruth8881423d ago

I loved it. It let me be able to use the ar from long range. It doesn't do much damage but it felt nice. People want the same game over and over again yet complain when they get it. The gaming community sucks

phantomxll1423d ago

Seems more legit. I like it. There should be a lose of precision and accuracy when firing from the hip with an automatic weapon.

Illusive_Man1423d ago (Edited 1423d ago )

Not sure what the OP is getting at. The weapons aiming is how it should be. Hip fire is never as accurate as zooming or ADS, especially if you are firing an automatic. It's just more realistic that way. Hip fire is still okay if you're very good at aiming but I'll take popping in and out of zoom over straight hip fire anyday.

I enjoyed the hell out of the beta and started off doing very well, then fell into the crap hole, until I learned to utilize the new gameplay features properly. It is still Halo but combat has evolved significantly. Once I started to understand how every thing worked I was regularly going 16/7/10.

I've been a long time Halo player since Halo CE. I think Halo 5 might have edged all of them in terms of MP. It was that good. Some will still complain and won't like it but I guess for them thats why they have MCC.
