*VGchartz is not very accurate, it's only an approximation.

I like the disclaimer you have at the end...which means you are no stranger to this site.

Now that is very impressive, almost 3m more sales than 360, a 50% increase.

Consider for a moment 3 things:

1) The 360 launched in 36 Countries, the X1 in 13

2) The 360 had no next gen competition

3) The 360 had a high failure rate

The x1 is really expanding the brand for MS.

Edit, looks like Madmonkey is REALLY mad that X1 is doing so well. To be clear, official numbers from MS and Sony had the 360 hitting the 80m mark the month before the PS3. Also, MS announced 84m long ago, Sony has not updated PS3 sales since. If last place is selling 84m consoles in 40 Countries compared to 84m consoles in 100 Countries, I say MS wins. Well done MS on last gen and this gen.

Edit @ ABizzel1

It is impossiblele for the X1 to "struggle to catch the 360" when the x1 is already almost 3m ahead of the 360.

RROD certainly did affect sales, the consoles got better every year but the worst ones were the launch units.

Only trolls suggest that the X1 dropped $170, the X1 is the exact same price as launch:

X1 + kinect = $500

The new SKU is $100 cheaper, obviously as it has no kinect.

As always MS and retailers have numerous bundles, just like last year, and the year before, and the year before... By now you'll have noticed that other consoles are also bundles and on sale, PS4 + 4 games $329, etc, etc, etc

Lastly, you are not looking at an inconsiquencial increase of 5% or 10%, this is 50%, that's HUGE.

Take a good look at the spike, it started in September when X1 added 29 more Countries, a slap in the face to those that said that those Countries would be inconsequential, lol.

And it will only get better, which has already infuriated the haters, lol.

yep, beating last gens last placed console, at this rate XBox could get second place in sales as it did in its first generation.

@Foehammer

XBO isn't expanding MS brand at best they can hope it keeps it consistent to what the 360 did.

It's doing better in US thanks to the near 2m launch boost due to 360 success, and MS dropping cost $170 in the first year. So it's bittersweet for MS, because it's doing better but at a cost.

It's breaking even with 360 in the UK (possibly slightly ahead of 360), but again the same rules apply with cost dropping from $429 (euro) down to $329 (euro).

Everywhere else (excluding China by default) it's doing worse than the 360, with sales being a faction of what they were in some countries during the same time span within their life-cycles.

The XBO will do fine in the end, but it's highly unlikely the XBO is going to be MS first 100m console like some people are claiming. It's going to struggle to even catch the 360 at this point unless something really beneficial happens for them. I seem them peaking around 75m (which is still a huge success IMO), and at worst well over 60m (60m - 75m). The only way they get close to the 100m hype is by obtaining some huge AAA IP's exclusive to the console (we're talking GTA6 exclusive, COD franchise exclusive, etc...).

You also have to consider these things as well when comparing the 360 to XBO.

1) XBO launched off the huge success of the 360 (giving it a easy 2m launch lead over 360),

2) 360 had no competition, but it was launched off the US niche Xbox, and anticipation was high for the PS3 (due to the PS2 success) and Wii (Revolution and new controller).

3) The 360 failure rate had nothing to due to launch sales, because it didn't really become an epidemic until nearly 2 years later (overall sales I'd agree with you).

4) The 360 launched with big stock shortages, and lasted for several months, and when supply was coming in it was still in small quantities.

5) 360 didn't have to drop it's price $170 within the first year to boost sales, it sold at it's launch prices for nearly 2 full years.

6) The 360 was being sold during a recession.

So you have to take all things into consideration.....unless you're a fanboy (the definition of random disagrees with no reply).

The XBO will be just fine. Will it match the 360's overall sales, I doubt it, because while it's doing better in the US and UK it's come at the cost of huge price cuts, and it's still doing worse in all other regions. However, it's not going to be another 20m seller like the original, and it's not going to be a 40m seller like Mikeslemonade keeps spewing. It's going to easily be 65m - 75m (70m) seller by 2020 (which puts it just behind the 360 in sales 75m).

MS has done an excellent job turning things around for the XBO, and no one can fault them for that. Be happy with whatever console you have, and keep it moving.

Wow, a 3 million lead for the xbone. This console is far from doomed. It doesnt need to beat the PS4 to be considered successful. The 360 was of course plagued with shortages its first year, but it was also plagued with the RROD so these figures are record high for an Xbox console's first year.
