PS4, Xbox One Slip Up In 2014...Open The Door for Wii U?

The Wii U isn't completely dead yet, and it's partially because both Sony and Microsoft didn't seize the day this year, as many hoped they would.

Both XB1 and PS4 have passed Wii U lifetime sales, and PS4 by a lot. I don't think Wii U is dead, I don't think that it's a bad system... But I can't see how either XB1 or PS4 slipped up to allow for a Wii U comeback. I know all the consoles have great exclusive games coming next year.

LOL, even though I owned the Wii and Mario Kart and Smash Bros are two of my favorite games from 2014, there is no chance of the Wii U ever going to gain momentum (only place I can see it might gain some momentum is in Japan for obvious reason) with the simple fact that it just don't have third party support and the system is way under power and not enough media and online features that should be the standard in today's all-in-one entertainment system. The fact that it is the cheapest system out and with probably the biggest exclusive blockbuster in Smash Bros out in November and it only managed to sold only 245k while the PS4 and XB1 sold about 800k and 1.2 millions respectively show that Nintendo's system is nothing but a system for it's fans and mass appeal is pretty much non-existence.

Having said that, I am glad I do owned it and lookinf forward to great titles like Zelda and Xenoblade X in 2015 so I have nothing but good thing to say about it.

Is this article supposed to be satire? Because really, this must be a joke. The WiiU is gonna get buried worse in 2015 than it did this year and that's with both the PS4 and X1 having very underwhelming game lineups. The only ones who really care about the WiiU are the hardcore fans.

I'm sure the other consoles will do fine next year but Wii U is looking to be almost unbeatable with Star Fox, Zelda and Xenoblade not to mention Splatoon, Kirby, Yoshi and many others.

Sure, graphically, the Wii U is inferior to it's rivals and it's online play isn't the best. But in terms of awesome (and complete on day one) games, Wii U is a shining beacon of gaming.

This is why used Wii U games are still selling for $40-50 while there's tons of other consoles' games in the bargain bin for $10 or less.

In short, if you love games, owning the Wii U is mandatory. You can't get Bayonetta 2 or Smash Bros anywhere else.

I have no issues online withe the Wii U, and its free. Also there are some great looking Wii U games and they do 60fps.

Both the Xbox 1 and Ps4 Sold like crazy this year on there first year out.Smashed the Wii u to the ground and passed it in sales even though the Wii U been out a howl year before both.Now we going into 2015 and all there major games will be releasing can someone please explain to me how did either slip up?? If they did this much damage with a litle bit of games what's going to happen when the Halo' and Uncharteds come out.

Nintendo has already given up on the WiiU. AMD has confirmed a 2016 launch for the Fusion Console and Fusion DS.

The issue Nintendo faced this cycle is that they made the console so underpowered the big Devs couldn't make 3rd party games for it, or didn't want to. As usual for Nintendo the 1st party games were brilliant - but you are missing a lot off stuff gamers consider must haves.

It has no online community and you can't message your friends. Miiverse and a built in Skype app. Hell you can even draw pictures.

It's not powerful enough so the ps3 and Xbox 360 is because all of your next gen 3rd parties are on that also.

It doesn't have games? Sure it has it even has the games from the old wii.

I will get a ps4 just for one game yet that game isn't announced yet. Heck I was going to get a xbone also. Be a gamer guys. Have fun. If Nintendo dies so will their ip so why try and kill them?

The one thing you can't stop is Nintendo quality vs price. While everyone else hyped their games and specs they all disappointed. They are a fps away from being the goto again. They have 3 to 4 more rpgs in their ip portfolio that can bring way more to role playing. Platforming is on lock.

The Wii U is a good system.It should just be priced correctly as the last Gens (Ps3/Xbox360) cause most people don't consider it as been actually next gen. If they dropped that price to $200 they would be selling like hot cakes.

That next gen wind? Hardly any thing is next gen about these new consoles except the perception of the fans. Buying a console based on that is a bad reason. A titan z is next gen... what you can't afford it. Well that is why these consoles are not next gen. This is the gen where hd actually runs some what correctly nothing else. The only thing that can provide you value is the game play and you only get tired walk a tons based on story almost no skill is needed. Nintendo brings the goods amd when they don't I'll move on to something else.

I just don't understand this comment, or others like it...it has more than enough merit to justify its price. Free online, free video chat, backwards compatibility, gamepad controller(which if you don't like it fine, but it is an option i thoroughly enjoy, not to mention allowing for off-tv play), functional games out the gate, one of the fastest internet browsers I have ever used, gamepad doubles as a tv remote, no day one patches to fix your game, no mandatory installs, optional hdd storage add on solutions, and, like all nintendo consoles, long after its counterparts have bit the dust, this little system that could will likely keep on working for 20 years, just like most peoples NES, SNES, N64, GC, and Wii. High quality product with high quality games...what is to complain about, at $50-$100 cheaper than the competition, generally with two games included?
