6.5 Gbs, holy moly.

the_dark_one3417d ago

Provably the rest of the game it was missing from the start.

seanpitt233417d ago

Well that's 6.5gb I havnt got. need to get a bigger hard drive for me

Grap3417d ago

WTF!!!! 6.5GB that is alone an xbox 360 game. what the hell happend with this game in QA? they didn't notice there's a 6GB missing?

Unspoken3417d ago

Do you guys actually read the patch notes? Or read into beyond what someone tells you?

_-EDMIX-_3417d ago

...man many of you have no clue how patches work.

Too funny.

morganfell3416d ago (Edited 3416d ago )

@Unspoken,

While it is true that many will not read the patch notes for that one line which says it replaces current data, there is also a line that says some data was missing.

The real problem is that a patch of such size was necessary in the first place, that the game was shipped in such an unfinished state. It is a testament to the ineptitude and avarice of Ubisoft. They as publishers are not alone in this act of sheer incompetence but their record as of late has placed them in the lead for the Bungling due to Greed trophy.

One of these times enough people will get together and realize that an organized complaint to the Consumer Protection Agency under the Federal Trade Commission will garner attention.

BadlyPackedKeebab3416d ago

For those that dont get how patches work. There a alot of files that make up the game. This generation the bulk of those files will sit on the Hdd. When a change needs to be made to any of those files a replacement will come down as a part of the patch package. I do not know if the original file is deleted or if it remains and the game defaults to the latest version of said file on disk.

The upshot is if you change only a tiny amount of code the whole assembly that it belongs to needs replacing. Chances are in this case they have upgraded the way the map, grabbing etc system works to make it more robust and that will be reflected in changes across a huge host of files, such as the map definitions.

Just my 2 pence.

the_dark_one3416d ago

jeez, its seems some people are hard at noticing sarcasm.
yes i know how patches work, i havent started gaming yesterday, thank you very much

Kidmyst3416d ago

It still didn't fix Initiates for me. I 100% Synced past games and it shows it but says 0 XP and said I never started any of the stories. Atleast Unity shows I Completed it and gave me that credit. Still missing 2000 XP for the challenges I completed before Initiates actually somewhat worked.

Grap3416d ago

I know how patches work because my major is Software engineering but come on how can QA miss that there's 6GB are corrupt or missing from the game. doesn't make any sense i don't think this game had any QA before lunch and i mean it.

apparently much of that 6.5gb download REPLACES sections of the game world with better performing assets. so it wont be adding that much to the total install of the game. I am a little curious to see if there are any visible differences in the new assets though. (this was their implementation to fix frame rate issues)

brads43417d ago

This guy is right. It's a patch, so it probably almost entirely overwrites the existing file size.

FriedGoat3417d ago (Edited 3417d ago )

Assets? As in graphical? Oh so this supposedly CPU heavy game can get performance improvements through assets. Kinda proves the BS people were spouting about CPU intensive actually meant GPU, and the game was just badly optimised for both consoles.

ThatOneGuyThere3417d ago

"Part of the team's effort to enhance frame rate for players involves replacing and updating portions of the Paris city map where we are seeing issues. This explains the large size of this title update (6.7 GB). However, since a large portion of the patch replaces existing files the net increase to the game's overall size will be less than 6.7 GB." - Ubisoft

Gazondaily3416d ago (Edited 3416d ago )

Lmao @ Fried Goat asking a question and then answering it himself. Then assuming his answer is correct , reaches a conclusion about the development of the game. All in one paragraph.

Brilliant!

Anyway, whilst it replaces existing data this kind of stuff makes me think of a time when games used to run straight from the disc. Any updates (on the 360) were just 5 second downloads. Oh how I miss that.

BadlyPackedKeebab3416d ago

@FriedGoat - In game dev land assets can be anything. Code scripts, models, textures... anything. Its a very broad word to use.

FriedGoat3416d ago (Edited 3416d ago )

And you know what's going to take up 6.5GB? Not Code, Not Scripts....

You know what takes up the space on game disks these days? Models, Shaders and Textures..

That's whats taking up 6.5GB, graphical assets.

Not entirely sure why Septic is having a go but oh well.

Do you know how many words would make up a 1GB text file? 200 million if the average word count were 5.

Know how many lines of code the whole game of crysis has? Over 1 million, and let me tell you there are not 200 words on a line.

To think this isn't a graphical optimisation is just silly.

bloop3416d ago

Has the patch worked??? Big AC fan and I've been so close to buying but really want it to be running smoothly when I first play. Anyone notice any improvements (on PS4) since installing the patch???

Muzikguy3416d ago (Edited 3416d ago )

Wow. First thing I think of is...
"They sold a game with that much missing?!"

UKmilitia3416d ago

not as bad as the dead rsing one, that was 13gigs

poor_cus_of_games3416d ago

That game was a mess. Every time I went near that helicopter at the start the textures wouldn't load and I fell through the map.

hades073416d ago

Are there any more patches expected? I still have it in wrapping waiting for this mess to get fixed.

Scatpants3417d ago

It's been running fine for me.

Relientk773417d ago

Sweet, I hope it runs fine for me when I play it next week

kneon3417d ago

It's crashed 2 times for me since the update, I never had a crash before the update. And one of the Nostradamus missions isn't working for me, I stand in front of the first symbol but can't interact with it.

So much for making quality a top priority.

TheJacksonRGN3417d ago (Edited 3417d ago )

I thought the patch got delayed? Well hopefully the experience is now smoother for those affected.

Unspoken3417d ago

It did...less than 24 hours. But enough time to make an impact on impressionable minds.

Damrock3417d ago

Hurry up digital foundry give us another performance test.

Might pick it up if they managed to get the framerate above 20fps now.

1nsomniac3417d ago

Can anyone confirm if there are any real life noticable performance improvements from this patch. I won't buy it on PS4 until it runs smoothly & looks great.

N311V3417d ago

I'd recommend just buying it if you're waiting. Personally I've only seen a few very minor bugs and not noticed any frame-rate problems on the PS4. A frame rate shifting between 25-30 fps is not something I see.

1nsomniac3416d ago

Lol thanks for the advice but im not going to 'just buy it' despite knowing the game has issues. That's the exact reason we're in this mess in the first place, so thank you for that!

I Played Assassin’s Creed Unity Almost 10 Years Later. It’s (Kinda) Spectacular

Shaz from GL writes: "Assassin’s Creed Unity is looked at as one of the worst in Ubisoft’s iconic franchise. But playing it nearly 10 years later reveals it may just be the best"

Do the NPCs still randomly levitate every now and then? Even years later I noticed they hadn't patched that out

Honestly I loved the PS4 ACs. I'd love next gen ports of Black Flag, Unity and Syndicate

Why Assassin’s Creed Unity remains one of the best games in the series

GF365: "Since the first Assassin’s Creed game, there have been entries up until now. There are more than a few titles that are far from an ideal stealth game. Let’s discuss why 2014’s Assassin’s Creed Unity is one of the best games in the series."

Glitchy as hell and flat story, nah this aint it. AC2, brotherhood and 4 were amazing games in every respective

Furesis520d ago

Yeah i would say brotherhood and 4 were the best for me. I have not played the new ones and Unity was my last one. Seems like i made a good choice.

DarXyde520d ago

I gave up after Revelations. Just couldn't bring myself to care anymore and I got burned out of the gameplay.

Definitely agree on 2 and Brotherhood though. Great games.

YourMommySpoils520d ago

A Ubisoft AC game that's not glitchy? That will be the day.

Knightofelemia520d ago

After constant glitches Arno being boring nah I am good I skipped Unity. I will always like the Ezio trilogy, Black Flag, Rogue, Odyssey, Syndicate. I use to love the franchise but now it feels stale and boring. But my list of favorite entries into the franchise will vary from other players favorite entries.

RaidenBlack520d ago

Odyssey is a really well-made RPG game ... but it ain't a proper AC game, even though its part of the lore

ToddlerBrain520d ago

It’s funny because, at launch, it was universally panned for being unplayable. It’s a great game that holds up today. I’m glad they fixed it.

staticall520d ago

The only good things i remember from Unity are pretty graphics and really good descending mechanics (even though it sometimes didn't make much sense, when your character can drop down from like 10 meter height onto a flagpole perfectly).

Game is glitchy to this day, i was playing in it years after the release date (with all the DLCs) and it's still broken. You had to reload missions too often for my taste (characters do not spawn, you fall through the floor, getting stuck in falling/sitting/aiming animation, hidden blade stop working, assassination target running away at the start of the mission). Story was meh, searching for all the treasures wasn't enjoyable at all. Coop was pretty much useless, i've beaten every coop mission in solo. Helix rifts were awful as well.

Not saying i hate this game or anything, but it got too many problems.

Assassin's Creed (i know it's a controversial opinion) and Assassin's Creed 2 are still great to this day.

anast520d ago

Unity was okay. I prefer Syndicate and Origins.
