The Xbox 360 Version of Soul Calibur IV will require the Hard Drive for Xbox 360. This along with the huge install on the PS3 version really makes you wonder about how much optimization Namco Bandai is putting into the game. Its unfortunate for Core/Arcade owners and for 20GB PS3 owners or those reaching the limit of their HD space on both consoles.

Can't stress enough how Microsoft should make the Hard Drive Standard.
Then at allow all the hard-core games to require a HDD so you can reduce the need to decompress data being streamed off the HDD - use the processor power for physics or AI or something.
I love the idea that a HDD is required and couldn't agree more that a HDD should have been made standard. That was MS's second biggest mistake (the first being the failure to properly handle the heat).
Hey, its Microsoft, did you really expect anything less. They went backwards in two aspects: First in the omission of a standard HDD and second in the quality reduction of the 360 hardware. But then again that's what happens when you try to gain as much market penetration as you can before your competitors come on the scene; no regard for reliable hardware, just get it out the gate as quickly as possible.
i couldent believe they didnt make the hard drive standard... one of the dumbest moves in a long time... ( sony has made a few also... lol) but listen that was the best feature of xbox 1, its beyond me why they made that choice... its part of the reason that the 360 isnt and probably will never reach the heights it could have, because microsoft has been flawless in every other aspect so far just about (ok dvd 9 is questionable too lol)

I thought installs were not allowed to be mandatory on 360 games for this exact reason?
They wanted a cheaper console to compete with the PlayStation 3, just look at the Elite. The big thing about the Elite was the HDMI port and now that's on every console. So the only reason it's that high is the hard drive (HD). Microsoft makes their own HDs, in result makes the console's total price much higher.
That's my guess on the whole ordeal because I can't think of anything else.

This news is fake you can't post random game specs as news in the first place lol and you can not take what is on Xbox.com to the BANK it is sometimes an poorly updated/edited site when it comes to game info(PS3 fans have lost arguments before based on Xbox.com info.
I think MSFT got a universal stat list, that list was probably sent to both MSFT and Sony and xbox.com did not check as they have done many times before(NBA street was listed as 720p/1080i when it is 1080p native a while back, Xbox.com simply gets things wrong sometimes)

a 2.5" Western Digital Scorpio 250GB HDD for my PS3 for $81.05. lol. 120GB XBOX HDD is $180. Go figure..
The price of the HDD is the very same reason why I opted for a Premium Console in the first place,can't understand why Microsoft didn't make it Standard.
IT's expensive because it's Microsoft. Also the hard drive is somewhat different than normal ones(the shape, etc) so that could be a possible factor.

My guess is because Microsoft makes them and the Sony PlayStation 3 uses laptop (2.5 SATA) hard drives (HD). In the end the PlayStation 3 was always the cheaper console out of the three but most people don't see it until later.

I just bought a core model, then bought a used 20 gig hard drive for 60 bucks, a rip off I know but really who uses memory cards anymore, 64 mb at that!! looking to buy myself a 320 gig hdd for the ps3, probably going with Newegg.com. I think I saw one for about 129.99 us dollars.

What I want to know is why sc? Of all the games to require a ton of hd space a fighter wouldn't be it. That either means they put a lot of extras into the game and its a good thing, or the devs were really lazy and did a crap optimizing job. Lets hope its the former, but i'm worried about the later now.
I'd feel stupid for owning an arcade sku in the first place.

How many of you 20gb owners still have the default HDD in their PS3's?
I know I swapped mine for a 120gb a long time ago. Curious to see how many complaints are out there in regards to this since people without 20gb seem to be complaining more than actual owners of that SKU.
the only thing MS needs to do is stop with the rape prices of their HDD's and drop them drastically.
And it hasn't really been an issue until lately. Between my videos, pictures, music, demos, and with game installs for MGS4 and GTA4 I'm running low on memory. But that will soon be remedied with a 500gig external hard drive! Ability to use aftermarket hard drives FTW!!!
And I ahve just uploaded my iPod music and tons of photos to it, and 6 or 7 demos.
Admittedly I ahve a few first generation games, that didn't require an install. But it won't be a problem for a logn while.
I'm a huge computer/pc hobbyist as well. Been that way for 10 years. So if and when it needs to be replaced (SSD maybe???) I'll make the jump. Until then, I am pretty much good to go. The longer I wait (until I really need it) the cheaper my drive, or the bigger/faster it will be for the same amount of money.

Burnout (for online) and Left 4 Dead so far. What sucks is that a lot of people with Arcades/Cores are going to buy this game and find out it doesn't work again and again before a store clerk finally tells them they need to shell out another $100~180 for a hard drive.

I'll also bet the hd requirement will be in small print on the back of the box, where no one will notice and most of the sales people won't mention it. That really would suck.

The 360 has a portable HDD that snaps onto the system. It's the most innovative HDD design I've ever seen, yet it's held back by Microsoft's ridiculous DRM restrictions, small capacity, and unreasonable price. It's really just a standard notebook hard drive in a custom casing.
$100 will either get you a 20GB hard drive for the 360, or a 200GB hard drive for the PS3:
