SNES - The World's Greatest Console Remembered

For many, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (or SNES to most of us) was, and remains, the best console ever released - the successor to the NES and direct combatant of the 16-bit wonder, the Megadrive. Launched in Japan on 21 November 1990 (it hit the US in September 1991 and in Europe in April 1992) along with the highly anticipated Super Mario World and F-zero another classic in the making. In Japan the alone, demand for the new console rose to near fever pitch so much so that Nintendo have to deliver the shipment of consoles at night for fear that the rumours that Yakuza gangs might hijack the lorries to sell the consoles on the black market would prove true.

Still my number 1 favorite console ever! The library of games for the SNES is legendary. The Wii U reminds me of the SNES. If third party could get back on bored the Wii U I feel could be legendary as well.

Tuet0ne1319d ago

Totally agree man im really enjoying the Wii U at the moment

mezati991319d ago

Wii U is one of if not THE worst console nintendo ever made. so much potential wasted on that console....

LightofDarkness1319d ago

Really? Worse than the Virtual Boy? It's better than the GameCube so far.

breakpad1318d ago

The SNES is very good but my favorite is the Genesis.

Those were the days where the real talent was on the other side of the screen. They used limitations as a means to surpass their own abilities and pull off some really impressive tricks that still stand the test of time.

16bit generation overall was my favorite.

same here genesis but my favorite console is dreamcast

Me and Classic Game Room, Reviewtech USA, Blackb0nd, 100% Agree with you darth.
My Genesis is still working today.

Its the first contender that knocked down Nintendo from the top and dissolve its monopoly over the American market.
Street Fighter 2 Special Champion Edition is my most played game there.
Followed by Streets of Rage 2 then Shinobi 3 and Gunstar Heroes and Target Earth. But Sonic the Hedgehog was my first game on it and truly loved it.

Truly an amazing underdog story.

SNES is great too. With FF6, Chrono Trigger, Super Metroid, TLOZ A Link to the Past, Dragon Ball Z 2, and YuYu Hakusho 2.

BillytheBarbarian1318d ago

Genesis is my favorite too. Road Rash 2, Streets of Rage 2, World series baseball, Golden axe, Gunstar Heroes, Phantasy Star 4, ...the list is huge.

I have 20 SNES games and 68 Sega Genesis games in my library of games I'd never sell. Best era ever!

I loved the SNES, but my favorite console was the Dreamcast.

Magnus1319d ago (Edited 1319d ago )

I still wish it was the 16 bit era again. Genesis, SNES, TG16 were all my favorite consoles.

I was one of the lucky kids that had the Snes and Genesis. Man Xmas's back then were epic. I must have rented Chrono Trigger a 1,000 times then finally got it for Xmas. That and the super Star Wars games. Awesome

Kane221319d ago

i enjoyed snes a lot. but it wasn't my "favorite" consoles of choice. it was sega for me.
